Life has got very busy, very fast for young Swede Avicii. Celebrating his 22nd birthday this week, the DJ-producer has been on a stratospheric rise ever since his first EP appeared on Vicious Grooves. 2011 in particular has been a blur of high-charting releases and constant touring for the young whiz, including mainstage slots at some of the world’s biggest dance festivals. Next stop: Stereosonic.
“It feels like the past two years have been so hectic,” Avicii tells inthemix. “I would say really, before I got into DJing I was a producer first, so I would say the DJing aspect of it is the thing that I feel that I’ve really learned.” It’s been a steep learning curve – from his bedroom to an audience stretching back miles at the likes of Tomorrowland or Electric Daisy Carnival – but he’s doing it in style. “I had my first gig two years ago I think,” he says, “so it’s been pretty hectic going from no gigs at all to almost five shows a week.”
While Stereosonic won’t be Avicii’s first visit to these parts, it will certainly be his biggest. So how does he handle the gargantuan festivals? This mix was recorded for Ultra Music Festival Radio in Miami this year, during what was a star-making week for the producer. It’s a good way to get acquainted with just how anthemic Avicii can go.
