She Can DJ finalists - Minx

We’ve already featured four mixes in our ITM-FM She Can DJ series, and number five comes from one of the stars of the 2011 inthemix awards, Minx. This is one DJ who never has a weekend free, whether she’s at her ivy residency in Sydney or tirelessly touring the country. She’s also a regular international high-flyer, with this year already serving up its share of career highs. We caught up with Minx for a quick run-through of what she’s all about.

“I’ve been DJing for seven years,” she says. “I moved back to Sydney from Adelaide three years ago. I was the first female Onelove resident and did one of their compilation CDs in 2009. I did a three-month tour off that, and everything snow-balled since then.

“I’ve been travelling around, playing in a lot of the same clubs as Helena. We have similar styles. I play mainroom house. I’ve travelled round the country and was a resident in Dubai for a year, going back and forth to there every two months. I’ve played in Mykonos and just got back from Taiwan.”

Just business as usual, then, for a talent much in demand. With the She Can DJ final fast approaching, it’s time to wrap your ears around this hour-long session from Minx.

Curious. Is there any thought given to the fact that there's a well known DJ in the States plying her trade for well over 15 years, known as DJ Minx and has released records on such labels as Richie Hawtin's M_nus and has been played at events such as DEMF? In an era when personal branding is very important (and sometimes more so than the actual talent), I'm intrigued in the decision to use a name that's already out there.

"to develop and mentor those selected through the following winners program." - seems to me this is just a means of somehow trying to get some interest of who these lot are b4 EMI then promote the crap out of any future tours . compilations and singles that they release, because they all seem to be playing out already and know how to mix, etc.

DHindahouse - Hey, the whole concept of this comp was made & directed at already existing professional DJ's, who just needed an extra push when it comes to producing & further developing their brand.
Royal - Hi there, i didn't pick a name just to use as my DJ name. This has been my nick name for many years before i started playing, hence why i use it as my DJ name. The Detroit DJ Minx has her own brand & style etc. I don't feel its an issue at all. : )
