When Ferry Corsten touches down for his Full On Australia tour this week, his support cast will include American born Taiwanese DJ and producer, Andrew Chen, aka Shogun. The first Asian DJ and producer to be signed to S107/Armada, Shogun’s productions have found their way into the DJ sets of Corsten himself, plus peers like Paul van Dyk, Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Gareth Emery and Markus Schulz just to name a few. Just some of his biggest hits are Save Me, Imprisoned, Lotus and Skyfire, and there’ll be more to come from his studio in 2012.

Speaking to USA Trance Movement this year, Shogun outlined how he found his way into trance. “I started out listening to a lot of industrial music like Nine Inch Nails, Prodigy, and Filter. Eventually, it progressed into liking more of the melodic elements from that music that I could find in trance. When I heard Armin van Buuren’s Communication for the first time and heard the beautiful melodies from Gouryella, I was hooked. I bought a VHS tape called the Invisible Scratch Picklz, and taught myself how to DJ on turntables from it. When my parents saw I was serious, they bought me a computer so I could start playing around on Fruity Loops and I eventually graduated college with a degree in audio engineering. After that, I went full time into producing my own music and DJing as Shogun.”
