Kali - Live at Together, Boxing Day
Mon 31st Dec, 2012 ITM-FMin
“Here’s part of my two hour set at Together at The Abercrombie on Boxing Day,” writes Picnic’s Kali. Consider it the perfect warm-up to Mad Racket NYE.
Kali (aka Carly Roberts) is lost in music, all day, every day. As the director of Picnic Touring & Events she is responsible for touring and organising parties for some of the most talented DJs and producers this side of the good music border.
Legendary Picnic parties and tours have included The Revenge, Derrick May, Maurice Fulton, Horse Meat Disco, Greg Wilson, Eric Duncan, A Guy Called Gerald, Pantha du Prince, KiNK, and two huge Sydney Festival Beck’s Festival Bar shows with DJ Harvey and DJ Garth in 2011 and Andrew Weatherall and Neville Watson in 2012.
Over Kali’s 15 years as a DJ she’s honed her true love of disco and more recently house (if recently is ten years?) developing her sound and making it hard to move house. Apart from playing and presenting Picnic parties, Kali has gathered a pretty hefty raft of other international supports including Rub N Tug, Aeroplane, Phonique, Norman Jay, Gilles Peterson, Richard Sen (Padded Cell), The Idjut Boys and a heap more. She also regularly delights crowds at The Spice Cellar and The Abercrombie Hotel (for S.A.S.H, Strange Fruit and End of the Line), two of Sydney’s finest venues for quality underground dance music. It’s pretty clear she knows how to hold it down, and get people dancing and smiling.
