2002AD – analogue2digital is a three day national conference celebrating
and exploring current and historical forms of electronic music. Inspired
by Adelaide Fringe 2002's theme Necessity is the Mother of Invention,
2002AD explores the inventiveness of musicians fusing high-tech,
low-tech and the organic to make art in a technological age.
Incorporating musicians from a range of genres, including experimental,
improvisational, new music and dance music, this conference will
investigate these rapidly evolving forms. Presentations, workshops,
performances, satellite events and discussions will be held in and
around the HUB at Adelaide University.

A journey through the 20th century through radio news recordings, an
'voice portraits’.

The Hyperstring Project - Jon Rose
Featuring the blistering violin playing of Jon Rose combined with Midi
controllers measuring the physicality of Jon’s high speed improvisation,
The Hyperstring Project pushes the envelope of musical expression and
live interactive electronics.
"There's not much Rose doesn't know about the violin. The rest, he has
invented." Artforce Magazine, 2001
through glass – by Tristram Cary, performed by Gabriella Smart
for piano and prerecorded playback (1998)
A dialogue between piano and artificial sound, distorted and changed
like a familiar object seen through a faulty window pane. Digital and
analogue manipulations combine in one continuous movement, with clearly
defined episodes.

Vergency – Martin Ng & Jim Denley
A bold integration of acoustic and electronic improvisational
methodologies, featuring Ng on turntables and Denley on a variety of
wind instruments.

Synapse – by Barry Vercoe, performed by William Newbery
A concerto for viola and computer, this was the first major work (1976)
to emerge from the Experimental Music Studio established by Vercoe at
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, illustrating his quest for an
effective connection between live on-stage performer and pre-synthesized
electronic orchestra.

>From the tiniest hair to the most spectacular din, live sampling and
improvising through the laptop. ”Raw and densely layered exploration of
sound, always clear, always intelligently constructed like a painter or
novelist, the physicality of playing is at the heart of Matthews’

WISH
Generating sound electronically with digital and analog "instruments",
and generating sounds on acoustic instruments Stevie Wishart performs
and improvises with live electronics, violin, hurdygurdy and voice.
