as a big fan of what I regard related genres - Breaks, jungle/d&b, & 2step/garage - i'm only too happy to support nights that sport any of these styles in Australia.
obviously, each to their own, but the above is the music that really does it for me. (other than a more 'oldschool' vibe - funk, blues, disco, soul, & gospel etc.)
there's a healthy Breaks scene in sydney - with such a positive, friendly, up for it, crowd of loyalists i've ever seen - this in my opinion is the apitomy of what a dance music scene should be about. the drum & bass community has been graced with some wicked nights of late, (& up coming), & i believe is slowly & steadily growing at a healthy rate also - despite the feeling contrary to this in past years. it's great to see a change of direction away from hard & dark overkill, to the melodic, musical, & funky side of things again too - hopefully encompassing a new, wider audience. as for 2step/uk garage, i think this a real scene that will both come into it's own with time, and also hopefully take more of place hand in hand with other genres, for example in 2 room venues, where clubbers can 'crossover' & discover just HOW good this music really is; & where dj's encorperate more of these tracks into, for example, breaks sets etc.
what ever style your into - keep it positive, keep it real, & keep it growing in Australia.
& i'm out.
