Anyone into the Neo American 'progressive'?
You know, Im talking Markus SHultz/Gabriel and Dresden/Probspot style stuff?
Personally I dont dig it that much at all - it seems very generic and quite weak.
But yeah anyone into it?
Agree - cant get into it
Most of these guys tend to lose their way with a few to many 'blah' tracks - ie dont keep your interest.
San Fran and Chicago house are it for the States IMO

I found this 'graph' to help you understand Mcprog

Ozgur Can, Markus Shulz, AvB, Gabriel and Dresden, and yes its James Holden. Why JH? Not his fault but Nothing was a defining moment ....

G&D new tune is a corker, and not their usual formula/sounmds which is good to see
Probspot is cool, he just needs to use some fucking new percussion for god's sake

Ozcar Can??? Are you serious? I'll admit that a few of his tunes sound like the last but there are also some pretty amazing records coming from his direction.
And AvB is anything but 'progressive' in my opinion. He's just trance dude. Not that there is anything wrong with that ;)
Dont agree with you regarding Holden either. Nothing is a classic.
Can we still be friends?

hahah yeah...I didnt say it was no good- just very similar sounding.
Are you talking about McProg or not?
If so, take out AvB and Holden, neither of them produce progressive. (and calling 1 track a McProg is pretty lame considering McProg is based around a formula[RE Nothing])
Ozgur Can hasn't produced enough in a cookie cutter format to cop the label of McProg either.
That leaves you with the Americans again. Funny how the Euro's escape the McProg label ;)

Avb runs Armada, Armada runs EE - the kings of McProg.
All the prog PLayed on ASOT is EE stuff pretty much - its all run by a couPLa guys. Have a look at recent AvB setlists, and you'll see the first 1/4 or so is this style of progressive
Im not saying its bad or good, its just whats happening -
here what is going on overseas;

man I didnt do the picture
He has moved on since producing nothing - to some peoPLe it seems others are just trying to re-create it.
This is quite possibly the stupidest music thread i've ever read.

How can you even associate progressive with run of the mill trance by numbers?
Ozgur Can & James Holden are progressive producers (James is probably more techno now) but shouldn't be included in this at all
How you could even put AvB & prog in the same sentence I have no idea
Unless of course it was "AvB doesn't play, produce or release prog".
Dude,
Producing McProg and running a label that releases McProg are 2 TOTALLY different things. Armin produces trance, he's not a McProg producer. I'm also pretty sure that the EE's A&R isn't done by Armin anyhow, so it wouldn't even be him selecting the tracks.

McProg!
Ha-hardy-ha. 8)
I totally agree in some respects, it's a sound I try and completely ignore. I wouldn't try and catagorise this and that artist, but I definitely steer clear of a lot of parties for this reason.
I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it forever, prog is better with one hell of a TWIST!

cant handle Mcprog. Probspot - Blueberry was a decent track until we started hearing in every probspot production. Gabriel and dresden remix 'pop' tracks with absolutely no creativity and claim it to be prog? Markus schultz is Markus schultz plain and simple and I honestly cant see what all the fuss about Ozgur can is about!
Down with Mcprog!

There have been a couple of quite cool Probspot tracks but he seems to have hit the "wall" same as a lot of other Producers. At the end of the day it is always going to be hard to do something different.
My bet for 2005, Progressive country and Western, Hank Marvin classics mixed in with deep dark rumbling triblal drums.
Oh yeah and i think Habersham will be driving the spaceship.

i do wonder if ur being a little hard on these producers. Most producers have a recognisable sound. Over a period of time this may change, but to expect a completely different sound and feel after a few tracks (or even with every track, as it appears some people want) I think is too much. Some producers stay with a style a long time (or never change - and they will eventually stop being played), which may mean they get 'left behind'.
I don't know what goes on in the heads of producers, but i can imagine its partly about exploring a musical idea, or set of ideas. This is most likely going to occur over a number of tracks. And success with a track will have financial implications too.
This same criticism has been made at some time of many producers who have been around for more than a few years. Can you name a producer who innovates on every track, or every few tracks? Any genre. (I am sure there are some, but ones who do not produce tracks that sound similar to other tracks?)
One final thought - u can very often pick a piece of music by Mozart, Beethoven or Chopin within a few bars . McClassical? Same with the Beatles (McBugs?).
(I didnt read the huge tranceaddict thread - I may not be contributing anything new here).
