View Full Version : Teaser Flyers are a waste of time!

Why do promoters reckon that putting out flyers with only half the information is a good idea??
I think it is a waste of time and promotional money which could be better used in other areas.

Just possibly because some details are yet to be confirmed. I'm pretty sure they'd think about it. It's not like they go "Oh, whoops, silly me! I forgot to say where it was, what time/date, or even whos playing. I'm such a dodo."
I think the better question is:
Why do dipsh;ts with nothing better to do post USELESS threads?
I think it is a waste of time and netspace which could be better used in other areas.

What I think Paul was referring to was the use of the teasers to create so-called "hype" about the upcoming event. I am sure that we are all aware that when the teaser comes out most of the details have been decided but promoters choose not to include them on the teaser so that people are intrigued.
To me, teasers are just frustrating and not intriguing. I want to know where and when the party is and what DJs are playing so i can decide whether to go or not. I am not going to go out of my way to find out about a flyer that only contains half of the information. Nor am I going to wait in anticipation for a flyer that does contain all of the info. I believe that the money spent on these flyers can be better spent on other promotional endeavors which will increase party attendance.
Also, it seems strange to me that you would waste your time posting in such a USELESS thread which only takes up valuable web space which could be better used somewhere else. Or perhaps you were trying to be ironic?

Paul: out of curiosity what other areas do you think promoters should be ptting their money into rather than teaser flyers?
What do people think is the most effective form of publicising an event?
While I think that flyers are important they do seem to get lost in the crowd at record & clothing stores. Especially now as almost every flyer is a colour glossy one so it is hard to make it stand out. Plus it is not uncommon to see some promoters moving others flyers to get a better position or removing flyers of events on the same night.
I think flyer distribution on cars is still a good way as is well-marketed advertising in dance music magazines etc but there is only so much money and so many different avenues to use.
Personally, I think nothing beats networking and promoters having a network of people that will support their events.
Just my .02 and I'm interested to hear what others think and what woul type of publicity will make people come to an event (other than the DJ's of course).
teaser flyers are only worthwhilei if you are selling earlybird tickets

Oddy,
Yes. Early bird ticket would be a good call... I've never done that... but your famous for it :) And it works for you!
Beekayz,
I'm an avid believe that promoters have to hit (with advertising not fist) potential customers at least 5 times to get then to consider going to an event... And a flyer with only the party name on it doesn't count... Maybe direct mail or even the internet (funny I would say that).
Paul
each to their own .. different strokes and all that ..
we all promote differently ..
I think it would be interesting to see how you (Paul) would fare promoting outside a superclub .. I know the answer ..
intersting to see don't you think ?
been a while hey ?

Yes, it would... not sure if I would want to compete against U. :)
I believe I could hold my own... but hey... :)
You don't think I could cut it? I don't think I'll be promoting in Adelaide for a while... got a much bigger fish to fry.. :0

Opps.. that was me... should check to see who's logged when I sit down at the machine before I start sending :)
ANYWAY... what she said :p
erm. i guess just to create interest for an event they have not yet confirmed all details for. You wont get anyone at an event unless people are talking bout it. just a theory.
peace out

I dunno... I think teaser fliers have their place, especially for a really big party. Teasers catch your attention and make you look out for more information in the future, as well as get the name stuck in your head.
Also it is sometimes not wise to reveal everything about a show too early, or the initial excitement among punters can be lost...Teaser fliers allow promoters to start promoting early without losing momentum.
I guess its not a very important issue or anything though. ;)
