Clubbing in South America

Am planning an extended vacation to South America round end of this year / new year / January 03 and was wondering if anyone had any tips / pointers / recommendations / warnings / advice on clubbing related activites there? Ive heard that Punta Del Este and Buenos Aries are good places to start ... looking for the kind of information you wont find in a travel agent / Lonely Planet / Rough Guide!

I hear Buenos Aries and Sao Paulo have both got thriving clubbing scenes. Be really careful in Sao Paulo though - it can be a very full-on place: gangs, crime etc etc

I've also heard about an amazing festival that takes place in the Amazon Basin every year - I can't remember the name of it but I'm sure it would be featured in more conventional travel guides because it is now quite well-known around the world. If I remember the name, I'll post again!
