This last weekend I watched:

Bad Santa (funny ha ha ha and a swearing midget!!)
Girl Next Door (better than I thought)
And I scored a free copy of SAW!!!

The last thing I hired was Garden State. I enjoyed it, nice little film. I'd quite like to see Spanglish too.
God Garden State was just brilliant!! I have a hard time choosing a fave between the 2, but GS is slightly on top.
I really love how Sandler is making the transition into off-beat comedy drama and is doing it well.
The spanish actress in Spanglish is breathtakingly beautiful. Really interesting characters and even Tea Leoni does a great job at her character.
I guarantee you'll like this Em$ki, if not then we can jelly wrestle some mo yo.

How can you consider Taxi as bad and Spanglish as good  Thats a classic.
Anyway, I was off sick with tonsillitus recently and watched
Wonderland (Val Kilmer) Surprisingly good
Signs (Mel Gibson) Better than I though it was going to be, but not all that. Distracting rather than brilliant.
Dead Poets Society (Robin Williams, Ethan Hawke) Absolutely brilliant. Cant believe I had never seen this film
Collateral (Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx) Excellent film. Jamie Foxx's performance really deserved the nomination for best supporting actor at the Oscars. Cruise was scary as the man who had been told that he could get into Katie Holmes's knickers if he wastes 50 people in one night... hold on.... you mean that wasnt the plot???

The Ring (first one). Great story that masked Naomi Watts' bad acting.

yeh for sure emskina, garden state has a great soundtrack. awesome movie too.
wicker park was surprisingly good, tho the trailers for that movie did not do it any justice what so ever. made it out to be single white female style, when it was way more light hearted.

american wedding (thought this would suck ass but it was actually quite funny, although stifler was waaaaayyy more annoying)

yeh, I thought house of flying daggers was utter shit really. piss poor story line, weak dramatisations and the sound track was totally ineffective as well, which is critical in epic films, especially foreign ones. hero was ok. crouching tiger owns.
man looking back over my offerings, I can't believe the bland films I've watched lately...if only I could recall the really really ridiculously good movies...just don't think there's been many!

What did you like about Finding Neverland. I thought it would be good but I got bored throught it.
I loved this movie too.
I thought that the concept of the movie was wonderful, the acting excellent, the attention to period detail superb.
They really managed to portray peoples attitudes of the period really well.
It was a sad story, wonderfully told. I was engaged for the whole movie and left the cinema with a tear in my eye.
Agree with all of the above mini-reviews. Especially DPS. This is a once a year viewing for me.
God Garden State was just brilliant
Saw it at the Cinemateque. It is one radical movie. Except they obviously ran out of money when doing the end. Which they obviously shot at the end. Don't these directors know that, the end is the beginning is the end?
21 Grams (Naomi Watts) awesome film
Million dollar Bitch total crock of shit and overrated! really disappointed.
Agree with the first summation. Disagree with the second. It had some rough patches but it was an atypical mini-Hollywood film. It could've ended in such a triumphant fashion but kept it real.

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind - not bad
Not bad. Not bad!. Not fucking bad. Fucking brilliant more like it. Fucking brilliant.
So my last DVD adventures were:
The Hard Word - Australian film with Guy Pearce and Racheal Griffiths in it. Crime film. Very uneven but fairly mindless dribble. Very convenient.
Spellbound - Documentary on the Spelling Bee CHampionships for u/14's in the USA. It follows 8 contestants on their journey. I actually find this quite exhilerating. Then again, I haven't had a root in a damn while so that may explain that.
The Office Christmas Specials - God damn that Ricky Gervais. Comic talent to the max. We'll conveniently forget his involvement in the US version of the Office. Anyway I thought it was an obvious but vital end to such a brilliant series. So happy they only did 2 seasons of this show. Timing is fortitude.
I Heart Huckabees - Funny as fuck. A movie that said so much but so little. Just like philosophy does. Whalberg was funny as ... well.... fuck. So was Lilli Tomlin and Dustin Hoffman. Some cool little director effects as well.
Have watched a few in the past week which were very enjoyable
Watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind last night, brilliant, will be thinking about this one for a while and I love Carrey when he's playing it straight, top actor
The life and death of Peter Sellers, another well made, engaging and brilliantly acted film

Thank GOD for that!!! I was ready to get medieval!!
TAXI was THE lamest watchy thing (doesn't even deserve to be called a movie IMO) I've seen in ages. I don't think I chuckled more than twice, and that was only because I felt I had to utter a compulsory laugh or 2.
BAD story, WORSE 'comedy', ridiculous characters and the standard 'lesson they learn by the end of the movie' was, well you can fill in the blanks.
I would only recommend hiring this movie so you can scratch the dvd so deeply that the video store cannot repair it.
the orignal taxi is better, the over seas one.
:-O /wanders into IMDb.../
I've recently seen Lemony Snickets and loved every minute of it. Yer right on the (B) money Ms LKT when you say Carrey is good as a straight actor, but he's also one of the top comedians IMO still too.
I loved Sunny (the baby) she was too cute and funny!!

it ended the way i expected, as soon as she took the cheap hit she was either gonna end up quadraplegic, dead or marrying Eastwood, was very predictable and fell well short of being an award winning film for me.

They could've ended it with Swank's character getting better over time and making a comeback to boxing, with Eastwood's character reconciling with his daughter. That is the normal Hollywood route taken.
What would've been unpredictable in your view? I'm not having a go at you by the way just wondering how you thought they could've ended.

Garden State - brilliant cinematography, plot was :meh: .
Hero - same as garden state, awesome cinematography, but this movie, along with crouching tiger hidden dragon and house of flying daggers really aren't my thing.
Anchorman- absolutely loved it, bought it, use the quotes, and the poster is up on our wall in our tv room.
Team America- pretty good movie, bought it and the poster is also up on our wall in our tv room.
Napleon Dynamite - my new favorite movie. Better than anchor man or team america. 10/10.
Hide and Seek - same plot as secret window.. better than secret window though. I thought it was scary :(
Saw- Fantastic. I'm not one for scary movies (I thought Scream was scary :|) But this plot is absolutely fantastic. Psychotic movie, but brilliant plot.
Bad Santa - didn't think it was that great. I wouldn't suggest it as a goodie to watch.
Finding Neverland - Was very.. 'nice'.
A Long Engagement - The title was right.. it was very long. and boring. same plot as any other romantic war movie. the fact that it had subtitles just topped it off.. :|
The Aviator - also quite long.. i couldn't really make up my mind about this.
Constantine - was alright... not really my kind of movie.
Cinderella Story and Raise your voice - I like Hillary Duff
Alfie - absolute crap.
Meet the Fockers - was pretty funny. 7/10. Some good one liners.
Spongebob Square Pants Movie - i thought it was boring, but other people say it's good so maybe i missed something..?!
Christmas with the Kranks - crap crap crap.
Little Black Book - i thought it was pretty funny and maybe not worth the full price over night release but is worth hiring on a cheap Tuesday or Thursday (Whatever your video shop has).
p.s- is Spanglish really good because it looks like utter crap?
pps - i work at a video shop.

Just browsing my quickflix rental history...
The interpretor - boring at first, but I stuck with it & it really paid off
Meet the Fockers - not stiller at his best imo
Blade 3: Trinity - Like porn, you have to try to ignore the acting between the action sequences
Sopranos, The-Season 1 - awesome! I never watched this when it was on tv, but loving it now!
Manchurian Candidate, The - waaaay better than i expected
Under the Tuscan Sun - Sappy, but helped to freshen those memories of italy...
Astro Boy Original Series- the original and still the best
Ocean's 12 like the first one but without the critical good story
Japanese Story - shockingly beautiful
Super Size Me - refreshingly entertaining break from the standard michael moore fare
Incredibles, The - ok, but not on par with pixar's finest
Six Feet Under-Season 1 - reliving the early series...
Dirty Pretty Things - quirky little movie, i liked it
Coffee & Cigarettes - cool, but not entertaining. If they weren't celebrities, would it still be cool? i dunno...
Coupling-Series 1 - british prats are so funny
Shaun of the Dead - love the zombies
Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse - even milla couldn't resurrect this dead dog
Monster - not bad, interesting roles to see these actors in
Alien vs Predator - surprisingly good!
Eurotrip: Uncut - haha, like american pie but way sleazier
Goodies, The-Volume 2 - still just as funny
You Got Served - ridiculous
Thirteen - crap
Anchorman: Legend of Ron Burgundy, The - awesome, if only real newsreaders fought over turf in gangs
Big Fish - cute - reminded me of a disney movie
Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The - pure gore, plain & simple
Spanish Apartment, The (Auberge espagnole, L' ) - awesome, i felt like i knew so many of these characters

Napleon Dynamite - my new favorite movie. Better than anchor man or team america. 10/10.
Yeah I just saw this on the weekend past and it was top notch. The way the dude speaks is just a cack. Kip and Uncle Rico are also well funny. Big ups to this movie, I wasn't expecting much as it had been so over-hyped but it is a truly funny movie.
The Illustrated Family Doctor - Australian film by Kriv Stenders and starring Samuel Johnson, Colin Friels, Jessica Napier and a few other familiar faces. I really rate this film. Pretty original concept, nicely shot, well acted by Johnson and Friels and the older dude who plays cops in a lot of ABC Cop shows. The script had good doses of dark humour amongst the drama which I especially enjoyed. The movie loses its way towards the end but still this is a quality movie and I'm not just saying that because it's Australian either.

whilst watching napolean dynamite, didnt really think much of it. actually thought it was plodding along at snails pace with some funny moments BUT then afterwards i was regurgitating quotes and moments to anyone who would give me the time of day. so yeh, i guess it was a beauty after all. much like anchorman. either you hate em or you love em and they're both endager of being ruined by people overdoing/mimicing it.

Well as I live with LDPT so I'm pretty much the same, but different view maybe:
Friday Night Lights: Was pretty crappy Billy-Bob Thornton was the worst actor ever in this movie, but I love those American Football Movies (my dad did have some influence on my life obviously)
Million Dollar Baby: I loved this movie, thought it was supposed to be uplifting and inspirational to only find out that half way through I'm crying uncontrollably and being told to shut the hell up. Then I tried to tell my mum about it on sunday and started crying again. But I did love it.
Constantine - Thought it was great. Didn't really know much about the movie beforehand, which was probably a good thing, but I loved the story.
Has anyone seen Closer yet?? I'm dying to see it, but my suggestions to hire it out get knocked back every weekend, even when I beg. Would a guy like watching this movie??

Same. I saw it Monday night finally and I thought some of the actors were a bit rough on the edges, the detectives' downward fall into obsession/insanity wasn't progressive enough, and it was way too sudden.
However it set a great mood, the plot and twists were fantastic and its display of human desperation and emotion was conveyed wonderfully.

I thought it was so cheesy to begin with but then I got into it about half way through and then I was touched at the end. And its one of those movies that you know is cheesy when you start, you know how its going to end but they someone draw you in and your rooting for the underdogs. I hate predictable movies yet I'm drawn to them.

Dangerous mind : I rate highly!
The Motorcycle Diaries: I really wanted to see this at the movies but never got the chance. I've been waiting ages for it to come out and finally got to watch it last night. It wasn't a let down either, an absolute gem of a movie. Set against some of the most stunning South American scenery, it follows a young medical student, Ernesto "Che" Guevara, as he sets out across the continent with his friend, Alberto. It's capticating to see the change from the apathetic Ernesto, to the man who becomes so frustrated with the injustice of the continent that it causes him to totally re-evaluate the direction of his life. I highly recommend this film.

Solaris.
Watched it last night. Very intensely internal, psychological film.
It raised the question for me: Are we who we think we are, or as other people remember us?
watched "sonny" last night with james franco...i liked it, different story and humour.
also watched sorority boys, total cack!
BIRTH - fascinating and captivating movie. Very beautiful and hypnotic in the way that it was shot and the music fitted brilliantly into the feel of the film.
IN GOOD COMPANY - I was pleasantly surprised by this movie, fairly basic story but enjoyable none the less. Topher Grace is really good and Scarlett. well...either you like or her you don't and I do... love her...
Pirates of the Caribean - I love it, seen it so many times but still all good.
Ice Age
Madagascar
and a series of dads army i think - its soo bad its so good ;D.
n a couple of really scary movies that i didnt watch, like saw, thirteen and a movie with clowns in it ... eek.
i can't hire any movies cause i am pretty much over 70 bucks in about 8 different stores around brisbane.
Recent dvds i saw are:
Kung Fu Hustle - Was funny but prolly be funnier if i were stonned.
Unleashed - Was a pretty crap storyline, but if you like Jet Lee watch it anyway
The Island - Really really really shit.
Charlie and Choc Factory - Same storyline nothing exciting, just more colourful. And the oompa loompas suck turds. Old movie is better IMO
Stealth - a crap movie.
Over the weekend:
1. Miss Congeniality 2.
I had no choice with this one and giggled thrice.
2. Triple X 2.
I had a choice with this one and ne'er giggled. Lee Tamahori should be banned by MadMike from every directing a film again. EVER.
3. The Longest Yard.
Pleasant viewing, without it being one of the Sandler best. Loved the standard Rob Schneider cameo "You can doo eeet!!" Not nearly as funny as Sandlers other moofies, but not a bad watch (well, in comparison to the previous two). "I think he just shit himself!!"
On the weekend i saw
Guess Who - liked it a lot, had a few very funny bits but was also a good story to it.
Batman Begins - not usually into superhero type movies but gave this a go and thought it was quite good. Few silly bits in the plot, but i guess u have to expect that with this sort of movie.

Window to Paris- stunning, a master piece. Nearly as good as Cinema Paradiso!
Go get it out!!
The Yes Men - loved it
Life Aquatic - yet to watch
Season 1 - 3 of black books - rolf harris
Wedding Crashers: Not as funny as I had hoped, but still some belly larffs. the Chaz 'cameo' was okay, but not as funny as I would expect from 'the Chaz'. Wilson and Vaughn just seemed to be acting, rather than feeding off each other. I want to wedding crash isla fischer. More lady-boobz in this moofie than I was expecting too.
Stealth: pffT. Whatever.
Kingdom of Heaven: Boredom of the Bretheren. At least the King Shiny face's sister was hot.
Lords of Dogtown: Thank God for this movie and thank God I watched it last. Very cool and made me want to learn more about these pioneers.
Team America (Load of crap. It had some funny bits for sure but most of it was shithouse imo)
what?!? "you had me at dicks fuck assholes" - that's comedy at its best my friend.
Into Teh Blue: I liked this movie. It didn't change my life and was quite predictable, but hey, it was in the Bahamas and there's plenty of eye candy. Some beautiful underwater shots (of sharks and Jessica Alba  ). Just some good 'turn your mind off' stuff without being totally useless. Like Paul Walker.

What did you like about Finding Neverland. I thought it would be good but I got bored throught it. I rate Garden State and I fell asleep on the plane during Ray so I might have to watch that again.
Finding Neverland was brilliant, sublte in parts yet brilliant. Fell in love with Johnny all over again with that one.
Saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the weekend. Loved it. The script was so subtly hilarious, and I liked the background they gave it.
Willy Wonka "Everything in this room is *eat*able. Even I'm *eat*able. But that is called cannibalism, my dear children, and is in fact frowned upon in most societies."
Oh I want to marry Johnny Depp!!!! *sigh*

BIRTH - fascinating and captivating movie. Very beautiful and hypnotic in the way that it was shot and the music fitted brilliantly into the feel of the film.
Oh yeah I think you are the only other person who has ever said they have seen it. I thought it was brilliantly written, acted and directed. Interesting story. Though I think they rushed the ending a little (though there is no easy way to end that story). All in all is brilliant.
Skeleton Key - Average try hard horror/thriller. Meh.
The Yes Men - Interesting doco/comedy about a group who 'hijack' lectures, tv interviews etc. in the attempt to educate the world on the evils of the WTO. Some very funny bits and quite eye opening. It's hilarious to see how easy these guys get invited into events etc.
Dark Water - I haven't seen the Japanese version, but will want to give it a go, as the Nipon versions are always superior. This had a slight amount of creep to it, and the rest was standard horror/thriller. Even after the ending, I really didn't even care. Still, it was better than Daredevil.
Elizabethtown - I liked this movie; I knew not much about it before watching, but it was a classic Cameron Crowe film. (I didn't even know it was Crowe until the credits rolled, then I sighed and went 'of course!!' lol). I have a LOT of family in Kentucky and there was an ere of sentimentality to this film for me. The love story, live your life, long talk on the phone stuff was all a bit standard, but the feel of the movie was quite nice.
The 40 Year Old Virgin - Not too bad, some mildly funny dialogue, but not as funny as I expected. 'You know how I know you're gay?' and 'I may have not had sex but I could fuck you up!!' I can relate to the action figures
Wolf Creek - fuck me up my stupid ass, I ain't NEVER going to the outback, matter of fact, I'll just never leave the house again!! Easily one of the best scariest Oz movies EVER. WoW. The suspense building ever so slowly, the bad things happen, the suspense of bad things happening. Fuck, very powerful movie. Hollywood should pay attention, you don't need f/x and big stars to make a good movie.
Flash Gordon - Yep, the early 80s one, Tres corny of course, by some imaginative sets and fx for it's day. I love the trippy tye/dye sky (hee hee tye dye sky).
Darkness - With Anna Paquin - Don't you hate having to choose weeklys when you get a new release/weekly rental pack, and have seen pretty much everything? This movie blowed and was not scary in the least. Then again, I did watch it right after Wolf Creek, so I doubt anything after that could effect me.
Comic Book The Movie - Mockumentary starring Mark Hamill. Kind of cool, but mainly for people who've read comics and understand all the geekdom. Some brilliant cameos including a fuckin a cool bit with David Prowse and Peter Mayhew.
Saw 2 You know, I didn't really have high hopes for this sequel, but I was quite surprised!! The first scene had me cringing, but overall I thought the story was quite good and the twist (isn't there always a twist these days...) was quite good too. Not bad at all.
The Exorcism of Emily RoseQuite good. I love movies 'based on true events', and this made me want to learn more about the story.
The Perfect CatchEither you like Drew Barrymore or you don't. I do, but this wasn't one of her best. And who in the world made Jimmy Fallon popular?? He is absolutely not funny at all. This is a film lost to anybody outside of the US unless you follow baseball hardcore. On 2nd thought, this movie shouldn't have been made at all.
Dark Water - I haven't seen the Japanese version, but will want to give it a go, as the Nipon versions are always superior. This had a slight amount of creep to it, and the rest was standard horror/thriller. Even after the ending, I really didn't even care. Still, it was better than Daredevil.
Skip it. I havent seen the remake, but I bet it sucked, considering the original wasnt worth it. Unless you're really gaggin' for something to do.
Recent rentals...
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang - Rate it.
Four Brothers - Sucked.
One flew ove the Cuckoo's nest- Rate it.
Exorcism of Emily Rose- Average.
The Corpse Bride- Pretty good. Lagged a bit in the final 3rd though.
hired out a few last night Sin City, Batman begins, Unleashed and 40 year old virgin!
but batman was fuckin scratched n couldnt watch it! you'd think modern technology can invent a CD that doesnt scratch!
Beat - Story about rapper trying to make the choice between family and music, really quirkily made with some awful acting in parts and cringe worth rhymes. maybe 2/5
Date with drew - Excellent doco style piece.
Date with Drew is Awesome!!
I really didnt' like Four Brothers. Just sooo boring, and when is Marky Mark gonna stop trying to be a gangsta??
 they had a marky mark clip on Video Hits the other day, best flashback ever.

I personally didnt like war of the worlds.
It could be Tom Cruises lack of acting abilities. He is just so dumb and he cant get expressions and reactions right. Then theres just that dumbfounded look he always seems to have on his face as if to say "the lights are on, but nobody's home"
I dont know who they should have had instead, but i just know they shouldn't have had Tom Cruise. Ruined the movie for me.
I have DVD unlimited, so I watch quite a few DVDs a week.
I always stand in the video shop for half an hour or so trying to think of what to watch, so I've just gone through this thread and written down all the movies I haven't watched that people reccomended.

This weekend I watched DVDs for the first time in ages (I've put myself in exile, time for a party break)
Thirteen - bit long but I felt this was very true to life and reminded me of my own teenage years
The Good Girl - not bad, probably Aniston's most credible film to date, but damn she wears ugly clothes!
Wimbledon - funny, easy to watch, Kirsten Dunst is hot
Reality Bites - an old favourite that I hadnt watched in years. Really enjoyed it this time around.
I also have the The Life of David Gale, which I'll probably watch tonight.

Great film! Quite an enchanting story.
Frankie Wilde = Sasha sans bad teeth?
(eg.google.image.search)
P Jackson's Lord of the King Kongs: Really didn't get into this. Only enjoyed the Skull Island scene when they first arrived.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang:
Stay: Ewan McKenobi and Naomi Watts - Very beautifully shot and hard to follow, but I like films like that. Ryan Gosling was great. Edited brilliantly.
The Illustrated Family Doctor - Alright
The Transporter 2 - Cheesey fun
Flight Plan - Started well. Ended shit.
Kinsey - Good
The Manchurian Candidate (196? version) - Didnt finish it. So, kinda crud. Though I'd already read the book and seen the newer version.
Sorry, I meant to edit my previous post re Kiss Kiss, but the option went away. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was great! Funny dialogue and well paced.
Flight Plan: Man, this was just predicatble boringness. The opening scene and the look on Jodie Foster's face just tells you everything you need to know. I don't even care about the 'who' and 'why' in movies like this; you just know that the bad guy is gonna get it, the hero is gonna have everything good again, and it's all gonna look pretty.
The only thing I liked about this movie is when the Arab fellow tackles Jodie and she bangs her head on the seat.

Been digging in history:
Dr Strangelove - a great film, but aspects have certainly dated.
The African Queen - I can see why it is a classic.
Sunset Boulevade - an excellent film - Gloria Swanson is amazingly creepy
RoboCop- Love it.
High Plains Drifter- Good
Showgirls- So bad.
Starship troopers- Cheesey fun
Three Colours Blue- Good
Se7en- Good.
Red Dust- Good.
Howl's Moving Castle- Great. Kinda surpised I like it as I wasnt a fan of Spirited Away.
Hired out 'Maria full of Grace' for the third time. Lets see if I actually get round to watrching it.
last saturday i got out
american psycho
the machinist
(been brushing up on my christian bale. dude is really leaading the way with the next generation of good actors)
dr who and the daleks
(to fulfill my love of dr who)
nightmare on elm st
halloween
(really needed to catch up on some old horror)
and
jewel of the nile
(because i love these movies)
The Family Stone
Very light comedy/drama. You get what you expect from this movie, but I enjoyed it. Luke Wilson is great.
Transporter 2
Some good action and same again, you get what you expect. The female villain is just plain ridiculous though.
thumbsucker :thumb: <-irony intended
mysterious skin - confronting yet enjoyable
keeping mum - also good
them us & everyone ?? or something similar, guy who sells shoes and how his life is interwoven with other people including pensioner cab driving woman - really enjoyed it, title is gone though
Fantastic Four
I thought this was av, very av.
Sky High
I enjoyed this more than Fantastic, it reminded me of X-Men in a crappy kind of way
Closer
and,
The 40-Year Old Virgin
Both yet to be watched, but hopefully they'll be better.
Read My Lips (French) - didn't really like it.
Amores perros - Loved it
still have to watch:Un chien andalou
I'm sure there's some others but I forget...will post more later.
Underworld: Evolution
Meh. This seemed like a music video to me. I really enjoyed the first one, but this didn't do it for me.
Van Helsing -Animated OMG, sofa king bad. Sofa king bad.
Walk The Line - I enjoyed it. I like Walkine Pheonix.

Firstly I have to comment on a few mentioned:
Garden State loved this movie :thumb: saw it when it first came out, Zach Braff is cool and I like Natalie Portman in it and her pet cemetary.
Dead Poet's Society reviewed it for school years ago and it's a movie you'll never forget
Have a had a few weekends at home lately and have rented:
Chocolat mmm chocolate and Depp!
Traffic good movie, Benicio Del Toro :thumb:
X-Men 1 and 2 cause I saw 3 without ever seeing the first 2, I liked.
Le Divorce made me want to be in Paris, I like Kate Hudson, chick flick
Born Romantic funnyish.. made by the makers of 4 Weddings... quirky
Pieces of April Katie Holmes plays the black sheep of the family.. odd look at family relationships
Just Friends funnyish, what I expected it to be, a bit silly :)
Can't Buy Me Love cool '80's movie was good to watch
Alex and Emma Kate Hudson in another chick flick, good story
Saved! Mandy Moore plays a Jesus lover, I liked it
Comme une Image (Look at Me) French flick, nice

Lord Of War - Nichola Cage is an international arms dealer. Excellent movie.
Lord Of War - enjoyable, not great
Broken Flowers - Excellent
The Assaniation Of Richard Nixon - Really enjoyable, really well played character by Sean Penn, dude can act.
Get Rich or Die Trying - Awful.
The girl next door - fucking awesome in a very stupid but highly entertaining way.
"Fuck her, fuck her for me"
"But I really like this girl"
"You can still like her with your penis inside her"
"I'd do things to you that I wouldn't consider doing to a farm animal"
Pirates of the Carribean - now I've rewatched it I can't wait to see the next one
Goal! - entertaining enough, fairly predictable
Shopgirl - I really enjoyed this one, I thought the interplay between the main chracters and what it said about human relationships was quite brilliant in parts. I though Steve Martin would be shit but I was wrong.
What about You and Me - predictable, tried to push the line by having a lesbian theme, failed miserably
The Brown Bunny Written, directed, produced. edited and acted by Vincent Gallo  Gotta give the man credit for doin his own thang.
Quite a bit of controversy surrounded this movie when it came out, due to quite a graphic b/j scene at the end - so I imagine lots of people would've seen it just for that. I'm not a huge Gallo fan, but this was quite a sad movie and I liked it. Simple story, nothin flashy, but emotive and Gallo.
Broken Flowers Jim Jarmusch's latest offering with all the usual quirkyness and odd characters. I liked it too, but it may not be everyone's cup of tea/coffee/water/vanilla vodka.

War of the Worlds (2005) - I hated it on the big screen; i hated it on the small screen:- I dont think screen size is the problem here. (just between you and I, I think its the fact i viscerally hate Tom Cruise that might be the problem).
What the bleep do we know - really really interesting - it's a documentary (yes, I love doccos, I'm a geek) about metaphysics and how we can shape the world around us- well worth the watch
Everything is Illuminated - really good, it's about the survivors of the holocaust re-examining events from the past
You and Me and Everyone We Know - it was not as good as I though it could be, it's one of those movies that gives a snapshot into people's lives and how they interact. I just felt that it never really went anywhere and I couldn't warm to the characters.
BloodRayne - Uwe Boll continues to cement his postion as the cinematic anti-christ.
I've got a copy of Milla Jovovich's Ultravioletin my hot little hands, which hasn't been release here yet. Gonna watch tonight!!
I heart Milla

Not a rental, but a download because I've never seen this available to rent:
Equilibrium: Fantastic!!! I'm seriously in love with Christian Bale, the man can do no wrong. Why has this film not been released in Oz, or is very hard to find? Sure, you can order anything you want these days, but it's unavailability surprises me.
Very Matrix-esque in it's fight scenes, and the concept of 'gun kata' is cool. Oddly, this is directed by the same guy (Wimmer) who directed the awful Ultraviolet.
Set in a city where emtion is banned, and you pay a hefty price for having anything to do with anything that makes you feel. Each citizen must take a medication each day to dull the emotions.
Enter the Clerics, the 'agents' if you will, who police 'sense offenders' and kill anyone who feels and destroy anything related.
Very 1984, V for Vendetta in that it's all about overthrowing a corrupted totalitarian government.
Loved this and recommend it highly.

Land of the Dead - I was expecting a shit movie, but it much better than most people appear to give credit for.
Evil Dead (I, II, III - AoD). First one was ok, had some genuine scares and interesting touches re cinematography etc. All three had dreadful acting which over the series become a point of self-reflexivity. I did like the 3 Stooges parody. I kept seeing these in Zombie movie lists - they are not zombie movies, but demonic posession.
Return of the living dead - I wasnt expecting another horror comedy. Is Romero the only non-comedy zombie movie maker????

Swingers – one of my absolute favourite movies. Watched it for the umpteenth time! “well, we’re not in Kansas anymore”.
Chasing Amy – very funny
The Office – hard to beat it for laughs per second and cringe-worthy-ness

Brilliantly scripted and brilliantly acted, can't ask for much more in a movie.

Hadn't seen City of God for about a year and the boy had never seen it so we watched it last night. Just as good the second time around.

Rented out Eight Below (http://disney.go.com/disneyvideos/liveaction/eightbelow/) on saturday night for a bit of easy-on-the-brain feel-good Disney schmaltz. I don't understand ppl's obsession with this movie!! Each to their own I 'spose..
Swingers is kind of a cult movie I guess.
I love it because it reminds me of good times with my mates repeating the lines to each other. There are some classic situations in that movie, and the relationships between characters remind my of my own relationships with friends in many ways.
Watch it a couple of times through with some of your friends and you'll find yourselves laughing at little lines you can't help but repeat.
V for Vendetta though. Can somebody please explain why anybody would enjoy such a piece of shit of a movie? I woud probably rate it as one of the worst movie experiences of my life. But have spoken to friends who say they really like it???

Fair enough then... Have a look at "Made". It's similar, but different. Same two main actors (Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau) but they play diffferent characters, but they stillwork so well together...
I recently re-watched League of Gentlemen (Series 1). I love that show! Talk about cringe worthy!

Swingers is *special*. It's in my top 5, never get bored of watching it. The script is as tight as a duck's arse (MONEY!) and the performances are absolutely spot-on; not one of the actors, IMO, has done a better film since. (Vince Vaughan especially!)
The ultimate break-up movie (for a bloke)...apart from my mates, it's the only thing that kept me sane after splitting with my GF of 7 years in '03. No word of a lie.
John Favreau/Doug Liman...I salute you! :thumb:

Honestly, maybe I missed something, maybe I just didn't get it... I'm willing to be proven wrong, but oh my, I seriously disliked this movie. From the wooden performances from Portman to the fact that we never saw the guys face, to the stupid, awkward finishing sequences.

Yeah, it's a guy movie for sure, but I think it has enough "standard" relationship stuff for it to appeal to the fairer sex, too. If nothing else you can laugh at just how pathetic most of us are! ;)

Nah, I'll watch any type of movie. Got a pretty broad palette of celluloid taste :thumb: (And the puppies are SO CUTE! )
Is V for Vendetta scary? I am no good with scary movies, but I want to see it and see what all the fuss is about and I like Miss Portman.
It's not scary in the conventional sense, but it does paint a picture of a dystopic future that isn't too hard to imagine, so it might unnerve you slightly, I guess.
Why do I like it, Meester? Hard to pinpoint specifics. I'm a big fan of OTT anti-establishment, "fuck the system" movies (which is why I lub Equilibrium so much, as well) and it hits those notes exceptionally well. I love anti-heroes. I love that it's in an alternate reality London. I can enjoy pretty much anything that Alan Moore has created, regardless of who brings his vision to the big screen. Great cast. Great script. Great SFX.
It's good, solid action entertainment with a hint of cerebral stimulation, IMO. Perfect blockbuster material :)

Absolutely fucking *loved* it...in fact, I honestly can't fault it at all and that's a rarity of the highest order for me! :p
As an example of horror done right it really hits on all levels:
Believably evil badguys
Believably normal goodguys
Separation from civilisation and help
Sedate build up to horrific slaughter
Regrouping of goodguys, revenge on badguys
Open ending
Great performances, great script, great SFX...GREAT! ;)
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. :thumb:
The New World
You could call this film a piece of slow moving, overly drawn out, pretentious wank. But if you don’t like that sort of cinema, what are you doing watching a movie made by Terrence Malick.
A retelling of the Pocahontas [sp?] legend that attempts some sort of historical accuracy. Excellent acting, excellent sound. The visual splendour does lose a fair chunk in move from big screen to small, but its still the best looking movie since Sin City, imo.
Only draw back is that it can feel overly romanticized at times, but once again, you expect that from Malick.
Derailed
Much better than I thought, an enjoyable view without being too predictable. An enjoyable shmollywood 'thriller'.
Dogtown & Z-boys The doco, narrated by Sean Penn - I had seen the film previously and really enjoyed it and loved the doco too. Was cool to see all the boys grown up and what they were doing.
The Notebook God I love my wife and this really made me appreciate our love more and hope that our lives end the same way. Not bad for a chick flick, although predictable, but a movie like this isn't supposed to be anything other than what it is.
Firewall Meh. I'm so scared about Indiana Jones 4. Harrison just doesn't do it for me anymore, he seems to pick the same roles everytime. OMG I'm really successful! OMG Somebody is threatening me and my family!! OMG I saved the day and can pull the best 'welled up teary' face! This was awful.
Gigli Right. I, like many of you, had heard about the badness of this film but had never seen it. I had to see it for myself, as I had seen every other weekly and wasn't in the mood to look through them again. Firstly, I hate Ben Affleck and J-Lo. This was pretty bad, but made me laugh in some bits, and the mentally challenged person was quite funny is some bits, although obviously not mentally challenged IRL.
I still love Christopher Walken. Pacino is himself. I lol'd a few times.
best for last:
The Proposition Farkin brilliant. Loved every minute of it. The music, the poetry being read, the scenery. Awesome awesome Oz flick. Would like to see more of Oz films like this please. Brutal, beautiful and made me thank everything I don't live in early settler Oz.

Last week:
Match Point: Kinda interesting while i was watching it, actually pretty good, even if i didnt quite get the main characters motivation. Scarlett was convincing, the other supporting cast were good.
Deadwood (season 2 disks 1&2): I forgot how much I love this show.
Amore Peros (or something like that, loves a bitch in spanish anyways):I kinda liked it at first, but maybe thats all the Gael Garcia, then it sorta dragged, then i liked it again. On the whole i think it was kinda cool.
Lost in translation:I dont think i saw it fully before, i think my parents were watching and i drifted in and out. After amor peros i could have done with something a bit more fast paced, but then i really enjoyed its subtle humor and like, pretty bits.
Somersault: Obvious and clumsy atempts to be edgy and topical, with cliched efforts to be at the same time poignant and beautiful. No real character development, sure they are fucked up, but why, what are they going to do about it?
Man Inside (i didnt actually hire this, my sister did, which was good):top film, quite similar to 25th hour in a way, kinda clever and shot interestingly with little politically bits. I think i should see more spike lee. Its a shame clive owen had his face covered up so much though (hotsauce!)
Punch Drunk Love: Only got half way through before dinner, seems weird, good for adam sandler, but then you remember its him and it fucks with shit.
Then today i went back to the video shop, hit up the 2 overnights and 4 weeklies for $12 again:
Broken Flowers
Waiting (its about wait staff, looks shit)
The Virgin Suicides
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Blue Velvet
and some flick called Better Luck Next Time, which seemed to be in the foregin section simply because it had asians on the cover but appears to be in english and an mtv film.
Oh and the week before last i got dead man and y tu mama tambien, and a stack more, but thats enough for now. Being between jobs aint all bad, although i am sure the video shop folks are sick of the sight of me.

Oh, that and your dislike of Finding Never Land mean you make it onto my people who’s advice on movies I don’t want list. I am sorry.
Well whenever my mates hype up movies they never seem to live up to it but fair enough it did deserve a better than not bad but it wasn't like the best movie i'd ever seen or anything.
Not the best movie you have ever seen, ok, thats fine, but its gotta be top 10? surely?
On the other hand,
Word. Benicio Del Toro is fast becoming one of my fave actors, 2nd only to Mr Depp.

You are so on the money (har har), your advice i will go with
and...
I've recently seen Lemony Snickets and loved every minute of it. Yer right on the (B) money Ms LKT when you say Carrey is good as a straight actor, but he's also one of the top comedians IMO still too.
I loved Sunny (the baby) she was too cute and funny!!
Totally, this film made me go and read the books, which ended up being a large part of my thesis. I rewatched the film last week and it was a really great adaptation. Sunny was excellent, as a fellow biter I see her as a kindred spirit.
How have I never found this thread before?

I didnt think it would be possible for anyone to get sick of juliette binoche, but i guess i am. It was weird how daniel day lewis was able to play an attractive man, even though he isnt one. i guess its all about that method acting.
i also watched thunderball, which i think is one of my fav bond films, its when they really started taking the piss out of themselves :thumb: I wanna rich spectre agent as a guardian, so when bond kills him i can inherit the huge house with sharks in the pool, and secret underwater access, plus bond would totally have me as his main squeeze of the mission.

My Mum says she thinks I hunted buffalo in a previous life :)
read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. Awesome book. When you come down, I'll have to show you my Indian Arrowhead I found near my Grandpa's farm.
Arrowheads could be found all over the US, when I was young, but I think since then (with more and more people finding them etc) They now have to be submitted to State heritage/historical societys or summing.

I am reading zorro by isobel allende at the moment, and it has heaps about his indian herritage in it, it kinda interesting stuff. I can see myself getting more into it.
A Thousand Paper Clips- Doco about making a holocaust memorial in Tennessee. Great story, poorly made. I mean a voice over halfway through a survivors speech? Too much Thankgod we live in America, cause its so great. Dont watch it.I picked this up on Sunday and after reading the blurb thought it could go in two directions. I'm glad I put it back on the shelf and picked up "Nighty Night" instead.

Mate, that's awesome :-D
I can't recommend Black Elk Speaks highly enough...it's the true account of Black Elk, medicine man of the Lakota Oglala Sioux tribe that was slaughtered at Wounded Knee, as told to John G Neihardt, the historian.
There's a free online version here (http://blackelkspeaks.unl.edu/).
