does anyone know much about food related allergies?
for as long as i can remember, i've regularly left the dinner table with extreme stomach aches. but lately, probably after every 2nd meal, i get intense pains in my stomach, and often migraines as well.
i'm not overeating, and i don't eat particularly quickly, so i think it must be an allergy or intolerance to something i'm eating.
does anyone know if there are tests for things like syphilliacs (sp?) disease, lactose intolerance, etc? and if it is expensive or worth doing?
thanks for any help :thumb:

If its only as of late then i don't think its allergies coz i thought that u were born with those kind of things. Go to the docter and they'll do a blood test...They should straighten it all out for u

^^ actually, in some cases that is not true. my gf has been lactose intolerant for the last 5 yrs, however before then she was fine. in some cases, you can develop an allergy to certain foods but i think generally you are born with allergies.
like chrissie said, talk to your doctor, who should take a blood test and that should tell you your problem.

HA! You want to talk about allergies, I get em bad every month or two, to the point where my eyes get so swollen I cant see, on friday I had em so bad I had to go to the Docs near my work to get a shot of adrenelin in my arm (bitch got me right in the muscle) cause I had it around my neck and I couldnt breathe
and today, Im getting it under my eyes and on my neck so bad my boss wants to send me home yet again..my face is so itchy and swollen I want to rip my eyes out
Ive been to a million doctors and dermatolgists, NO ONE can tell me what Im alergic to, all they have told me is that if I come into direct contact with whatever Im alergic to, and I dont get the adrenelin, I could die....
FYB to me/NOT
On the brighter side, Im booked in to A VERY good allergy clinic in three weeks....

there are doctors who specialise in alergy testing, I have a similar problrm except i come out in huge rashes when i eat something i shouldn't. They do the testing either blood or skin pricks have a look in your phone book and go see a alergy specialist they should be able to help you.

Maybe go to a nautropath, I've had a food allergy and intolerance test done there.

You should try cutting out wheat and dairy and see how you go. Or keep a food diary and write down what you eat and when you get the pain. It depends on where your feeling the pain. Your stomach is near the bottom of your left ribs. If its lower down then thats your intestines and is probably from something you ate about 8-10 hours earlier. If your getting the pain frequently then that's something that should be checked out, cause it could be an ulcer or coeliacs disease etc. PM me if you want, i'm nearly finished studying nutrition and can give you advice if you let me know where the pain is, the type of pain, when you get it (what you eat before it) etc. There are supplements you can try too. Hope that helps.

yeh methinks you were trying to write coeliacs disease... its an intolerance to gluten, basically you feel sick can throw up and lots of other nasties... where do you live??? If its in sydney then I can recommend a really good place, but you'll need a referral from your doctor. Its true that you can develop an intolerance/allergy at any stage of your life but some you are born with, and the symptoms become more noticeable after puberty or some major disease (eg i had glandular fever BAD and then developed allergies causing anaphylaxis immediately after.) I went through programs and trial/error tests and now the only thing im allergic to is nuts... its a long process but it works out to be better off knowing what is going on and being able to control it.

I'd go to a GP first, get your blood tests. I had a whole batch done last year, 4 or 5 viles, a big range of tests, including one for Coeliac disease.
get a copy of the results too and see a naturo for diet tips.
a long shot might be IBS, causing cramps, considering its straight after you eat. Maybe take out dairy, red meat, eggs and whole wheat for a few weeks and see if you still feel sick. but dont think that would explain the headaches.
keep a diary of what you eat and how you feel and see a doctor :D

There are food allergies and intolerances.
Lactose intolerance is just that... an intolerance. Generally not something you're born with.
I was lactose intolerant for a couple of years in my early 20's.
I'm fine now.

Dog is a delicacy though Jimmy ;) must be good :P
You can get allergies later in life, saw a doco on it just recently... Your body can defend against loads of alergens but if you are subjected to the same allergens over and over again your body forgets how to create a super way to defend against these alergens and as a result each time you come into contact with them you swell, get snotty, come out in hives etc etc... because your body has been overstimulated by the frequent allergen encounters...
or something like that...
try cutting out different things from your diet and see what makes a difference.
I cut out peanut butter and my asthma improved ALOT.
