Since noone else has done it yet i thought i better post it. Who's gonna go to see bexta on Friday??? It should be pretty cool. I don't suppose anyone here knows the set times???
I'll be there. Find me in my red Platform shirt wit yellowish print on tha front.
I'm getting very blase about Bexta these days... I've seen her play many times and her interstate sets seems to be her Mixology CD (which are already full of aging tracks) with a couple of current crowd pleasers thrown in.
However, she DOES please the crowd. The Canberra people love the girl, which is the main reason I'll be in attendance - at least I know for sure the place will be absolutely packed with very happy people. Can't wait til she plays LIVE down here tho.
Not forgetting FANG X will be on at Babylon too, but I can't stand that hole, so Bexta it is.
See yoo there.

I agree with you. Alot of the mixology stuff is getting a bit old. But she still manages to get the crowd moving. My favourite bexta stuff is some of the things she wrote herself. I just downloaded a whole pile of her mp3's of audiogalaxy and they're pretty good, especially 'one for the road', i love that song!!! On bexta.com she said that she'd be playing some of the new stuff she's writing in the studio, so that'll be pretty cool.
All in all i reckon its gonna be a great night, i'll also be there in a funky red shirt so keep your eyes open. Plus where else am i gonna go?? Babylon?
Yeah, I love her own stuff much more than she plays. 'One For The Road' however, is a song I really truly do NOT like. It's very.. umm... screechy, and harsh. Heh.
On the other hand, gimmie 'Decoder', 'Do You Dance' or 'Raindance', none of which I have ever heard her play yet, and I'll be bustin moves like crazy.
Don't get me wrong, even though I seem to be full of criticism of her sets ( and I'm only another punter, it's not as if I know what I'm talking about ), I still love the girl. She's great fun. Also, I can expect certain tracks from her that I wouldn't be so sure of getting anywhere else. Especially 'Running' by Endymion, which is practically a theme for her now. Heh.

ps. Has anyone heard that Dumonde track 'Never Look Back' ? How old is it, because I wonder if it's new, because I haven't heard anyone play it yet, I think. It's the most shameless rip-off of 1998 it's not funny. The song seem practically to be a remix of Dumonde's own 2000 remix of 1998. Hahah, has anyone else heard it? Maybe it's real old and I'm just totally out of the loop... =)
Yeh, I spelt 'Decoda' wrong. My bad. Pleh.

If you don't like 'one for the road' then at least u must like 'make it phunkee' ?? I downloaded it 2 days ago and have been listening to it ever since. Its just soo cool.
'Make It Phunkee' IS hell sweet, but like 'Drum Beats Go, I heard it a lot. I'm more interested in the others because I've yet to hear them in her set.

You must have seen her a few times then. Does she come up to canberra very often??? I've only seen her once, at utopia this year (where she was awesome!). Before that i wasn't 18 so i didn't really care who came to canberra :)

I've gotta say Slinky, that if I had the choice of Bexta or Fang, I would be at Babylon. Just my opinion.
Yeh Booty, Fang looks good, but I hate Babylon that much. :(
I'd go if it were the only thing on this Friday, but Bexta's good enough to peak my interest.

I've only ever been to Babylon to go to Fang, so I don't know what it is like on a normally. I've really enjoyed the past 2 Fangs there, so maybe you should give it another chance. Of course, I think Ben Henderson rocks, so I'm a bit biased.

I think it's just one of those things. The Canberra crowd knows and has a bit of a soft spot for bexta. She's got strong 'brand recognition'. And from there it kind of feeds on itself - everyone knows that everyone else is totally up for bexta... so they get excited about it... so everyone gets excited... and I'm not saying she's good or bad, but it sorta becomes a great night independent of her actual DJin ability...
but anyway, I didn't go - needed time out after Lawler and saw her 2 weeks ago in Syd too. A friend of mine showed up at the door at 11pm but they had gone and sold the door tickets earlier in the day on Friday, and he was told he wouldn't be able to get in till after 2am. So was it a uuge night folks? did it live up to the ticket madness going on? :)

It was pretty fucking awesome. I don't think it really justified the ticket rush that went on though. I know somebody who paid $80 for a ticket!!!!

I think guys that you might find that there were liquor license people out in Habana on Friday night. Habana has a capacity of around 350. They had about that many pre sale tickets and were expecting to sell a further hundred on the door. I believe that Steve Lawler did have more people than beXta, but they were way over capacity. The thing about beXta is though that she sells the right image for people. She is not a good DJ and in my opinion she plays cheesy NRG which is just plain boring. Im not a big fan of Steve Lawler either, but would say that he is a much better DJ. However in Canberra beXta has been marketed so well. She has this glamorous image of Sydney and classy clubbing even though I think she plays in that @!#$ hole in Kings Cross called Icebox. Sorry to anyone who loves her, but beXta shits me to death. She is quite a talented musician, however she sorta sold out when she started playing cheese to appeal to large crowds.
I was actually pleasantly surprised by her set on Friday. It was much tougher and fresher than I was expecting.

i had the misfortune of stumbling into the icebox when she was playing recently ... my god that place is fucked, and she plays the most disgraceful tunes.
i say canberra can keep her.

>$80 for a ticket
I hope you are joking.
I am a beXta fan but there is no way i'd ever pay that much to see just her and some locals (not dissing the guys, Archie rocks my world), you could travel to Sydney and see a bunch of other djs too for that money.
The capacity of habana is 320 (there is a sign next to the front door)
A couple of friends of mine didn't have tickets but were let in (for $20) at 1am. We were surprised about how "unpacked" it was, there have been more people up there for Melt before, it must have been a licensing thing.
I had a top night anyway.
Think $80 was high, think $180 (!!). That's the highest I've confirmed. Some people are so stupid.
And I was real surprised at the amount of space there was. The period between the end of Archie's set and the first half of Bextas was about as packed as it got, and it was pretty tight across the room but all other time sit was really pretty comfortable.
I had such a candy nite. I'm so ashamed. =)

So do I. That's just completely fucked my theory that people are basically intelligent. ;)
the whole ticket thing was fucked. X( First off i was told at two tix outlets that there were 100 tix on door. Then @ door after arriving around 10o'clock(was planning to go to minque first)but people were already lining up so had to wait in minus degree temps for an hour only for there to be an announcement by some guy at 10:55 that "tonights event has been sold out. So i suggest if you havent already got a ticket you find somewhere warm elsewhere to go". So went to minque, then when was heading for home around midnight decided to talk to door staff about chances of getting in, reply was "weve presold over 800 tix, so its not likely but come back at 2 and you might get in". hung around till about 1am and was about to go when they let everyone who was hanging around in!
now first off im with the theory that it probably was liquor licensing but that's besides the point....the liquor licensing laws are there for a reason...mainly for a club patrons safety in the event of fire and such...so why the @!#$ oversell your tix (not that i believe for one sec. they sold 800 tix) but even 350 is oversold and then to say there's another 100 as well!
now theres plenty more to rant about but i just cant be assed....8-) dont even get me started on paying $180 for it...$20 was too much as it was...

I think that Twisted (not in this case) do do a great job of bringing high quality acts to Canberra. I think that when they have beXta playing, which is there sure fire money maker that they will cram as many people into the club as they can to make up for when they bring big acts that do not fit into the styles of music that canberra finds "cool". It is just funny to me that they can pack out beXta but have difficulty with the likes of Fergie. While I am not a hard house fan and it was on a Thursday night I would have though that there would have been heaps of people going to this. Canberra makes no sense to me.
My guess is that the majority of of Canberra punters are candy mainstreamers who really don't have much oppinion or judgement on quality other than what's popular and what everyone else likes. I'm not going to pretend I'm some sort of savvy raver who knows exactly what's good and what isn't, because that's bullshit. I think most people can see that what I've said is generally true though.

I saw beXta's Melbourne set last night, she was one of two headliners. The place was packed, it was more crowded than her night at Habana. But the thing that I found interesting was that the few people who I asked if they were beXa fans replied "who?" I don't know maybe I was just talking to unknowledgeable candies but it just seems that the Melbourne scene is fairly cut off from Sydney. Whereas you would think Canberra is part of Sydney judging by the influences of the music.
I think it would be great if Canberra could get some influences from other places to develop its own sound instead of just mimicking Sydney. A perfect example of this is;tracks that I heard at Utopia apparently suddenly appearing in Melt sets.
I've been living in Melb for about 5 months now and am absolutely loving it. The scene is vast and varied and I urge any Canberran to make the journey to check it out sometime (its a long one but its worth it)

Indeed Dusty, Melboune does kick it. I was down there a few months back, and its got such a different feel to Sydney or canberra, but a good one at that (not that sydney or canberra are bad at all).
It must also be pointed out to this discussion that whist there may have been 300 to 400 people at Bexta, there was a fair few at both Fang (which rocked it) and at East On Wests Pimps + Ho's party when i was there.
But easily the most packed out places were PJ O-Rileys and South Pacs that night...
Where im going with this is dont be too hard on the Bexta fans (except the one that paid $180 for a ticket) but canberras scene isnt just the Hi-NRG of becky or melt, there is also the vinyl underground (which i couldnt attend but should have), fang, trinitys nights, stuff at minque, funked up at the gypsy bar (please let be at the ruby lounge) and facture at east on west, and mombassas never been empty when ive been there...
Whilst Bexta draws a crowd, and isnt my fav thing, at least there are really cool alternatives.

In regard to the statement that most Canberrans are candy mainstreamers I'd respond by saying that most people in any city are. You can't tell me that the majority of people that go out on any particular night in Sydney enjoy good quality underground house music. For Canberra's small population it has a very good underground scene with some excellent local talent. For instance "Back to Ours" which was held at Club Habana the week before Steve Lawler's set absolutely blew me away. It was an excellent showcase of what Canberra is capable of. The breaks was stunning and featured excellent djs, scratchers, and mcs. Previous to that experience I would never have even considered dancing to breakbeat but thanks to that night I was able to listen to breaks at its best and I dare say I'll be going to more breakbeat events in the future.

Seriously who cares! Everyone there seemed to have a great time. And i'm sure that habana/twisted made a @!#$ load of money, so everyone's happy!!!
hey, that dumonde track is only a few months old..

Yeah, Archie played that track at Melt on the 30th and that was the first time I've heard it played. It satisfies the void of a 1998 remix without having to actually resurrect 1998 all over again (and again an again).

Id say Charger (under various psuedonyms), BOC and Mr Mike and moose are the longest using ITMers (back when the canberra forum opened it was deader than habana on a sat night...) Interestingly enough the majority of early posts on here were from bored sydney forum users coming down to have their own private laugh at the dead forum...
Then something changed around last sept...
