Trying to get a listing on Ebay but only get search results for childrens movies...

Anyone know who made it? Or who the main character was?

I know Clyde Singelton was in it but he was a minor character and doesn't come up in searches...

Neither of them were banned, Ken Park was, Kids has just become more hard to get. Its been on the Movie Network over the last few months.

I know Clyde Singelton was in it but he was a minor character and doesn't come up in searches...

I think you mean Harold?
re. my last post, unless Clyde was in one of the scenes in the park, can't remember...

Bug Powder, up until 3 months ago, or close to when Thompson died, it was banned, it has only become available since he died.

So bullshit yourself.

And fair enough re kids, I haven't seen it in a store for years and years...

And DeCon, I meant Harold but I think Clyde is in the park scenes when they're rolling the blunt...

Kids was never banned and has always been freely available. same with fear and loathing.

Kids should be available on video - is quite old now though and most video shops are cutting back on video stock.

Bug Powder
27-Sep-05, 10:40am
djsimonman that is blatantly untrue. It had a cinema release in about 98. Village roadshow I think. Vid release in about 99?

Where do people come up with this stuff?

Try video ezy, they tend to have old shit lying round everywhere. Or if in Brisbane go to Trash video, the greatest and most powerful super video store in the cosmos.

Though once again, I stress, do not waste you money on this film. Rent Gummo and sniff half a litre of petrol instead.

was a hardcore skate punk in 96, so I had to see it, although it is terrible.....

Blockbuster have a family orientated policy, basically at their descretion, they will or will not stock certain films, I'd bet that Kids is one they never stocked...

And yeah, Kids & Fear & Loathing have always been available, saw both at the cinema for their national releases, and bought em' both on VHS...

Kids freaked me out but I liked it.. same thing with Thirteen a couple of years ago. Yyou have to seperate yourself from the story to appreciate it.

I liked Gummo as well... it was by the co-writer of Kids,.. it was funny and disgusting all at the same time.

Bug Powder, how about 3 years of chasing Fear and Loathing and being told by everyone including very small specialist stores that it had been banned.. There is where I come up with this shit...

Regarding Kids, I just assumed it was because it is so hard to find but Fear definately was banned..

Hey Sime

I have a video of Kids if you would like to arrange to borrow it.

Unfortunately, the staff at those specialist stores were leading you astray and were very misinformed.

there is a great website at http://www.refused-classification.com/ that tracks all banned product in Australia. Otherwsie check directly at www.oflc.gov.au.

Fear and Loathing has been classified R 18+ with the consumer advice 'Drug use, adult themes' since it was released in 1998. The same classification information was applied to a DVD version in 2004.

mmm....rampant drug use, the fact that someone could consume acid for breakfast, have a PhD and maintain a career as a journalist, and subsequently become a cult hero/author, is not a good role model for the kiddies..... That's my opinion, the fact that it detailed drug use, and the ability to lead a normal life at the same time would not sit well with canberra...?

Has anyone actually seen Ken Park? Is it that bad?

benji1
29-Sep-05, 10:48pm
ive seen ken park... you can download it from bearshare.

it's pretty nuts straight from the start. Its starts with a redheaded skater kid riding up to a skate park where he stops and sits down on a ramp in the middle of the park. He then pulls a gun and a handicam out of his backpack which he sets up next to him. he then smiles, raises the gun to his head and (with the screen alternating between the handicams shot and the normal shot) proceeds to (very graphically) shoot himself in the head. He then lays in a pool of blood as the skater kids all surround him to check out what happened.

Probably the most fucked up scene is where this kid (who in an earlier scene masturbates while choking himself with a scarf till he foams at the mouth) stabs his overpossessive grandparents to death, naked. then returns to his bed where he lies back with his hand resting on the back of his head smiling with his grandparents false teeth in his mouth.
Or actually, maybe its the scene where this kid gives his girlfriends mother oral sex. Or the scene where the slutty religious girls father walks in on her and her friend having sex and beats the fuck out of her friend while he's still tied to the bed. Or maybe the scene where this kids abusive father sexually molests him when he comes home drunk after looking for prostitutes.

I don't want to give too much away, cos its a pretty good movie. But it was obviously banned because it shows kids doing drugs, having sex with each other, having sex with their families, killing their families, killing themselves, etc., and all very explicitly (and i mean completely no censorship. if larry clark wants to show you a kid shooting himself in the head, thats what you see. if he wants you to see a kid performing autoerotic asphyxiation, thats what you see.)

I recommend you see it just for the fact that its probably one of the most fucked up movies youll ever see thats actually well made (not some shitty snuff film or something with no artistic intent).
Despite my description, its not just 2 hours of pornography and does have some pretty cool scenes. Like 'kids' and 'gummo', its wasnt made some kind of social commentary, there is no strong plot line, or 'moral of the story', it is just a film highlighting the lives of some otherwise ordinary insignificant people existing in middle america.
Like with most controvertial things, if you look online im sure you can find some reviews that say 'larry clark is a paedophile, and ken park is 2 hours of hardcore sex and tasteless violence that only a sick pervert could enjoy', and some reviews that say 'larry clark is a genius and ken park is the greatest, most ground-breaking work of art thats ever been created'.
The only way to know for sure is to see it for yourself.

well iv never seen any of larry clarks movies. i remember kids comming out when i was getting into my horney teen, and obviosuly thought it would have been sweet as.

i think they all sound a bit too gratuitous to my aged mind now

anyway, kids is definately available on ebay in dvd in oz. most people seem to be selling the unrated US version, that isnt strickly available here, hence why people are proly telling you its banned.

i guess its up to you if you could be ferked forking out the 25 bucks for it though

I’ve had that happen with Fear and Loathing, and also “Cheech and Chong, Up in Smoke.”
I just couldn’t find them anywhere...

Either the movie is so popular, that every video store in Australia has had it stolen.

Or they just didn’t distribute as many copies.... maybe because it was a controversial film, or maybe it was originally brought out by a smaller independent label, and it took them a while to get it re-released.

Kids and Naked Lunch haven't been released on DVD in Australia. So you'll either have to buy an American version, keep trying to search out old video copies or wait patiently for them to be released.

As I said earlier, I have a video copy of Kids if you wanted to borrow it.

Hey DJSimon - I got the Larry Clark 3 pack sent over from a mate in the States - It's got Kids, Bully and Krap Nek (Ken Park).

Highyl recommended - That is if you enjoy explicit and gratuitous borderline paedophilia. But really - When Kids was released, it was an eye-opener, hadn't been done before. Bully is based on a true story, so it had merit on that account. Ken Park I enjoyed for the OMG-did-he-just-go-there factor, but Larry has lost a lot of credibility with this outing, probably due to the futility and pointlessness of the whole exercise. He's niched himself into this world of kiddie-porn. I'm sure if he broke out of the genre, he could produce some highly thought-provoking material. Unfortunately, I stumbled across some of his photography and surprise surprise, all provocative and suggestive pictures of jail-bait. So it doesn't look like he'll be attempting anything more cerebral for the time being.

N.B. Must admit, the scene in Ken Park where Tate gets into the auto-erotic-asphyxiation (Michale Hutchence style) with the tennis in the background, is still the most jaw-dropping scene in any movie. Watch it purely for that. And wretch.... XD
