FF are a joke as far as customer service is concerned, but then so are all gyms in my experience.

It doesn't bother me too much though.......i pay my membership, go in and lift weights and then leave.

Ring head office and have a whinge to them.

to join up you have to give names of other people and they go and hound them. i really cant stand marketing like that. dicks.

Bah, maybe as far as Telstra and the sort are concerned (or any firm that outsources to India). In many industries (especially those with tight margins) customer service is increasingly becoming a major point of difference for firms to compete on. But I'm not talking solely about complaint handling.
With the amount that FF charge for their fees you think they'd be able to afford some decent customer service.

They are just a cost-engineered company, plain and simple, they must be making a killing - their facilities and convenience must far surpass the dodgy customer service.

Anyway, I'd never give them a dollar.

I totally agree. I am really self-conscious when I go to the gym and I just want to get in, do my workout and leave. No trucker hats for me! FF is really convenient.... I have a choice of 2 near work, 1 near home and 3 near my parents place.

Just tell them your moving to somewhere where there isn't a FF and it would be too far and impractical to drive to the closest one. One of my friends lives in Campbelltown and she said she was moving to Townsville or somewhere like that.

If you signed up for a 10 week deal then where is the deal you signed?

If they dont have any proof that you signed anything they cant legally charged you $15 per week.

My work has a corporate deal with FF where we get free passes.
Some of the staff warned me not to fill in any details for them, but of course I forgot.
Went there twice, then got a phonecall yesterday.
It's pretty obvious they're money hungry:

Guy: "...are you interested in coming more often?"
Me: "Yeah Im planning to go about 4 times a week coz it's free. I can't afford a gym membership now anyway"

Guy: "Thanks for your time, bye."

Exactly.

I've been a member for just over a year now, agreed it is pricey, but their facilities are good, and I can use any FF in the world. It's handy, because I can use the 2 in the city, and the 2 out near my place. I've just taken on a PT, thats when the money hits you, $300 a fortnight including my FF gym fees. But I figure, its $110 a week I'd rather spend on improving my body, than going out and pissing it away on alcohol.

Couldn't agree more with polo and NTC187, have been going for over 18 months.
Had an issue with them not taking money of my credit card properly, but $hit happens.
Updated it and never had a problem again.
If you are dedicated to going to the gym you don't care about stuff like this.

Most gyms won't care about you once you sign, but in the same token you have to make them care about you by approaching them and getting some kind of a working relationship.

It is also my experience the people who say stuff about steroids and guys who look wanky are not one of them. Maybe if you put in the hours/days/months to get to a point where you could look at the mirror and see results, then you would understand why people do.

i've found the service at FF Platinum on George St & in Bondi surprisingly good - helpful, nice, friendly people. I've had trouble with FF in the past (funnily enough when I whinged a lot but didn't really use my membership), but this time around they are ok so far (now I'm going regularly). I don't see what that has to do with the post as I was not addressing steriod use, but anyone who knows me knows I am quite against it. Have had a few friends who have started down that path and have ceased being friends with them. Cannot allow the gains that I have made to be tarnished because someone can't be bothered putting in the hard work and needs to cheat to get there.

I was implying that the majority of people who say things about big guys in a gym are not one of them, regardless of how they supplement growth.

she made me spew with only one session!

Most gyms are dodgy with some stuff, im leaving mine (12 months up this week) and went in last wednesday to make sure they would stop direct debitting me and the chick said i had paid 12 months worth and it automatically stops, just to be sure the next day i took in my 'exit' form and then checked my bank on saturday and they still took out my monthly fee...how is that legal to keep charging you when you only sign up for 12 months?

Then i called them and they are 'sending me a cheque'

just give me my money back FFS!!! C*Nts!

Dude; Even if someone gets on the gear, they still have to work their arse off to maximise the anabolic potential. This assumes they actually know what they are sticking in their arse in the first place!! Putting to one side the moral/ethical question, why ditch so called friends just because they choose to use steroids? If they are not competitive athletes, why does their steroid use bother you?

Completely agree with the first part, in fact you have to actually work harder when you get on the gear. Bottom line is and as I said, I don't want my gains to to be tainted by others who aren't 'clean' - regardless of whether or not we are competative athletes. If you have trained with people before and after you would understand why as they go up at an exponential rate and you do not it is quite a soul-destroying process to watch. Ultimately, it's not a level playing field and tarnishes hard work of others as if one person is doing it, then they must be doing it kind of painted with the same brush kind of stuff.

But I don't see what this has to do with customer service at Fitness First...

Agree: Off topic but the subject interested me :stroke:

Most of my training partners over the years were on the gear at various times. For me, it had the opposite effect: This made me more determined to train harder and smarter. My philosophy is if you want to get bigger and stronger, train with someone who is bigger and stronger than you. And if they use gear :meh: It's not about them. Cheers

In my experience with contracts you probably signed for a minimum, not maximum of 12 months. Most contracts will stipulate in the fine print that they will continue billing you until you advise them in writing you want to cancel. My company's contracts will extend for 3 month periods until you advise us you want to cancel or we upgrade you in the mean time.:haha:

I've had my "12 month" agreement for about 5 years. They just keep billing me every month. I'm definitely not complaining as I only pay $55/month for a Gold membership. Works for me.

I can't see how you would have a problem canceling you agreement if you were finished with the contract period...? Just cancel your direct debit and advise them in writing that you're done....

My only complaint is that some of the trainers are fatter than the people they're training! LOL. I don't know how you'd turn up to work every day when EVERYONE knows you're a fraud!

Yes. But 'why' exactly does it bother you? Philosophical, moral or health grounds?

In my experience a large proportion of young gym bunnies who go on the gear do so to get bigger and stronger in conjunction with some sort of training regimen... i.e. they want to look like one of the units in Joe Weider's wank mags which is an entirely unrealistic expectation right up there with '6 minute abs'! .... It would be hard to characterise that type of use as 'recreational' . If they are an unexperienced training subject, uninformed on the pharmacology of the substances they are injesting or taking, don't have a plan that addresses the risks vs the benefits, and are otherwise not knowledgabe about what they are doing, then that's not 'bad'... it's just dumb. We are all guilty of dumb acts from time to time, aren't we?

I've only ever had one issue with FF....I signed up with a student membership and was told it was locked in for life, even after I stopped studying....a few months back they wrote and asked for a copy of student ID to make sure I am still eligible, etc.

I phoned up and said "Yeah, not an issue, I'm locked in at this rate"...they say "Yep, all cool, I'll pass it along"....next fortnight I get charged at the higher rate.

By this point I'm starting to acknowledge the fact that they're going to screw me, and preparing my reasons to leave. I phone the branch again, explain what's happened, and they say "Oh yes, I see now, it was changed but then got reset somehow...I'll fix it back, and credit you with the extra amount you paid next fortnight and it should all be sweet."
Wasn't expecting that....everything actually went back to normal, and no more problems.

The end :)

I love the high horse people get on about roids, if you dont wanna take em, dont, but theres only so big your gunna get naturaly if thats your goal. There was an interesting program on nat geo on friday night about them

i felt it was more pro roids, then against, or they were basicaly saying the jurys still out, the people that did have problems where 55-60 yrs old who took them for 10-15 years and where at the age where if somthing was going to go wrong it probably would have then anyways. DemoMan you should take a look at that site if you wanna learn somthing about steroids, its a wealth of information, but dont bother ordering anything from there. I love the high horse people get on about roids, if you dont wanna take em, dont, but theres only so big your gunna get naturaly if thats your goal. There was an interesting program on nat geo on friday night about them

High horse? Apologies I believe in an even playing field across the board, but if you want to cheat or are advocating cheating by using steroids then be my guest.

I do however think there is some validity in having a games every four years where people that takes steroids only can compete. It would be interesting to see how far man can go if he is chemically assisted.

I wasnt really meaning YOU were on a high horse, there was a few other people that used to get SO worked up over roids when this forum was just one thread, it was hilarious. I dont agree with roids in sports where it is cheating/banned i.e olympics...But I dont have any problem with it in bodybuilding, if its used by people that have been training for a few years and have a base to build from, and cant get any bigger naturaly, then no, I dont have a problem with them.

Imagine how fast the 100m male sprint could be?

Anyway, back on topic - I think Fitness First are great if you don't have any issues.
People do tend to make issues out of nothing.
So they overcharged you or didn't end the contract or whatever, I'm positive in 99% of stories there is a genuine reason. I don't think anybody purposely means to bugger your account up, but mind you Australia does have the worst customer service in the world.

I had an issue with my gym (cbf searching if i have already posted a part of this story)

- Signed up for a 12 month membership

- went in and asked the chick at the counter 3 days before it ended if i needed to do anything to stop the money coming out of my account to which she said 'no it just stops'

- found out that there WAS a form i needed to fill out, did that and took it in to stop my membership 2 days before it ended

- money still came out of my account on the weekend

- called up and they said 'ooh im sorry it must have been a mistake, we can send you a cheque' im not happy coz it was a direct debit and they should just put it back

- cheque comes and i take it into the bank (hassle) and they tell me its not acceptable because the date and amount are 'out of alignment'

- i call up and get put on hold for 20 mins waiting for 'someone from accounting' to talk to me who advises me that they cant issue another cheque till they get the old one back

- send the old cheque with a 'nasty but nice' letter and get a new one in 4 days

hassle and a half

You do know you are supposed to give them a months notice before cancelling?
Or at least that's what it said on the back of the contract I signed.
I agree it's a hassle and a half, but mate seriously, what did you expect when you enquired with three days to go?

Thinking about joining Fitness First? Read this first.

I joined up more than 12 months ago. Contract has ended. Over 2 months ago, I decided to cancel my member without success. Fitness First has been doing everything humanly possible to prevent me from terminating my membership. They are still taking money out of my account even after personally handing in my membership termination notice. This is now stressing me out to breaking point!

If I can get my message across to even just one person out there to do as much research as possible before signing the dotted line with Fitness First, and in the process, help them not to get sucked in like I have, then I will be happy knowing that I have helped another fellow Aussie.

Speak to friends, relatives, workmates or read up on forums about the issues that people may have experienced regarding terminating membership with Fitness First before you sign up!

Hope you will this info useful.

All the people complaining about FF...

You actually fully read the contract before signing it? I sent the guy who was signing me up near mad because I went right over it and clarified every point before I signed.

That said, I love FF fire sales, I re-joined recently when one of the clubs was clearly well below sales targets. Now I have a passport account for $22 a fortnight.

I joined FF Parramatta a few months ago and have had great dealings with them. I used to go to a crappy little cheap gym in Seven Hills where I was paying cheap membership, but it ended up not being worth it as the facilities were shocking and it was so small and cramped. I have a PT at Fitness First Parra named Winney who works MIRACLES. It is a bit extra to pay for a PT on top of ur membership but ends up being worth it! I've lost alot of weight since being trained by him! But yes the sales people at FF can get on ur nerves haha.

Why the fuck would I pay $25 a week for a gym that is average at best, when I can find prices much cheaper else where. GGF'd.

i have now been with FF for the last 12 months on a 'pay as you go' no strings monthly membership and it only works out to be $5 a day for the days i go...great facilities and every imaginable machine/weights available.

Most of the male PT's are a bit wanky and it attracts some fairly ordinary clientelle but overall im much happier than with my old gym.

plus its walking distance from work

4 deadlifts out of a possible 5

You're probably a good trainer Winney, but marketing isn't your forte :(
