its gonna be a texas borefest :P
i agree though, houston are gonna be well solid now they picked up swift and rafer. i think west will be rise again this year. squads like denver, sacto, houston will all be up there.
on the east, dont think miami are gonna be able to gel, they remind me of lakers 03/04, too many stars. and they dont have jackson as coach. not even the diesel can stop walker popping stupid 3's
my pick is indiana. an angry motivated pacers unit with the pick up of granger and jasikecivious will be hell tough this year.

Well it was smart by the Bulls to let him go, i mean if he isnt gonna take a DNA test then he must be hiding something, shame though as he made an impact with the bulls last year!

i find the curry situation a bit disturbing. i remember when reggie lewis died (was only a few weeks after drazen petrovic died in a car accident). i'm sure new york wouldn't have done the trade if they had doubts about his health, but still...a player collapsing on the floor of madison square garden wouldn't be good.
anyway, go spurs and go indiana (don't blow it again)...

i think chandler was much more important than curry was!
especially if chandler can learn how to play some offence...
i dont know whether curry will ever be able to rebound or play d...

Does anyone know when Foxtel/Austar/OptusTV will be advising the times etc for the telly?
im hoping my Nets can stay healthy - they have a very solid team, but injuries can really hurt them, as shown last year. unfortunately we didnt get the 'big man' we were after.. but we have added Jackson, McInnis and Wright. if Kidd is healthy - we are right up there in the East!
they have finally put up a good fantasy comp now, that ranks you against everyone, much like the football (soccer that is) - http://fantasygames.nba.com
a salary cap competition makes it much more interesting - because you can be against all players, instead of the 12 in your draft etc.

I'm hoping that the Magic can make some noise this season. Making the playoffs will be a tough task but one that I am optomistic we can acheive if things fall into place.
A good PG is must so that Steve Franchise can move to the 2-guard spot. Other teams have passed on Jay Williams (remember 'im?), perhaps for good and obvious reasons. Then again, it may be worth a gamble yo.
And then there's always a lot of uncertainly about Grant Hill..
Doug Christie trade really screwed us over. :|

Players like the Jones' were great role players that didn't demand the ball, shots or minutes.
Twoine, Payton, Williams, Zo - all 'em egos are nothin but trouble.
Shaq doesn't have the dominant personality to keep them all in check. The big fella is more likely to snipe and grumble through the press.

I'm a bit impatient maybe... but it ain't even about numbers. It's about him being a pussy...
in 3 years he hasn't cracked 10 rpg... that is ridiculous. Numbers aside you watch a game with him, you see people a foot shorter than him, sometimes point guards, rip rebounds away from him because he thinks the ball is an egg he might break or something.
He is a good, skilled player, no doubt about that... but he could be so much more than he is... I'm not saying he should be at his peak right now but I do believe he should have made much more progress by now.
I still hold hopes he will be amazing some day. He mainly just needs to become aggressive. None of this traditional oriental manners and dignity bullshit. Fucking hurt people.
i think thats just the way he was brought up rhyme ... thugged up courts of the u.s VS rice patty courts of china ... kinda different playing fields if ya know what im sayin!

The Bulls pulled away in a tough one against the Bobcats.
I want the Bulls to do well, but look at the competition in Central division:
Detroit, Milwaukee, Indy, Cleveland. Intense. They could come last in that group AND still make the playoffs though I'm not sure how likely that scenario is.
The Atlantic is still the laughing stock of the league..

Some fierce battle for PG duties at Indy - Tinsely, Jasikevicius and Johnson are all averaging around 20mins per game lately. Personally, I like the look of that Jasikevicius guy, stemming the Miami game where he was great down the stretch. He is very vocal, which is what the Pacers need I reckon - could become a leader on this team.
Anyway, my Magic are pretty much where I expect them to be: hovering around .500

Who would have thought the Cassell/Mobley backcourt would have been so effective at getting Brand and the healing Maggette into gear...Very surprised by the Clips start, though maybe I shouldn't considering some of talent mentioned there. But I still think Elton Brand is one of those cursed players of the Dominique Wilkens/Shareef Abdur-Rahim ilk whom always toil on losing ballclubs.
Not so suprising is watching Toronto languish at the bottom of the Atlantic - still without a win. Charlie Villaneuva has had a couple of good games on the trot. They have some promising players (Bosh + Villaneuva), a couple of veterans (Rose + Peterson + James) but are fucking useless at defending - 2nd-worst in opposition PPG (109.5!!).
Whoa nelly... been a while since Ive actually watched ball... Last time I did the Warriors were throwing away all their first round picks... and Chris Webber made play of the week... every weekAs innA said, Baron Davis is the key man. He really needs to improve in a couple of areas though, most notably shooting (16 FGA p/game but only making an abysmal 32 percent of them), he's still a terrible on the charity stripe (65%), and takes far too many threes for my liking (7.1 p/game).
Perhaps it maybe a little unwise to write off the wily C-Webb just yet. He's been outstanding during this early season. That's six in a row for the Sixers and the AI-Webber duo is looking pretty good.

well the pacers didn't have artest...but still, thats no excuse. its fscking atlanta for crying out loud!
manu suffered a leg injury just before the season started. evidently its restricted his movement a fair bit. plus he took the whole summer off...from espn:
1. Stein: We saw you miss your first nine shots [last weekend in Dallas], including a wide-open layup right at the rim. How much is the injury holding you back?
Ginobili: I don't know if it's more my body or my head, but something is holding me back.
2. Stein: Maybe one thing leads to the other.
Ginobili: It's probably a little bit of both. I'm out of rhythm, like I'm still on vacation. The good part of it is, it's only been a few games.
3. Stein: This was your first summer off from Argentina's national team in years. Is it a case where the extended break might be hurting your sharpness now but help your freshness later in the season?
Ginobili: For me, it's something strange. I've never had this time off in my career, so I really feel like I'm a couple steps behind. But it's not too worried. Obviously I don't like playing that badly, but I know it's going to get better.detroit also lost today...meaning that dallas now has the best record in the league (shared with the pistons).

Pretty good ballgame yesterday - Twolves at home to the Bucks
Wally Szczerbiak shot the lights out
Marko Jaric mostly played a controlled game at the point though attacked hard late on. Picked his spots well.
Bogut did nothing.
Redd hits some amazingly difficult shots - such a quick release - though couldn't really find his stroke this time round.
Olowokandi is an absolute stiff. Fucking useless.

and as a pacers fan...FUCK YOU RON. the whole team - players, coaches, management - stood by him, supported him, got him back to team practices while he was suspended, basically did everything they could. and this is how he repays them? after destroying what i believe was a legitimate title shot last year, he has no problem doing the same this year? yeah ok the pacers aren't playing well atm, but talent-wise they're one of the top 3-4 teams i think...maybe they're missing reggie more than anyone thought they would.
but thats not the point...pisses me off that he's pulling this shit 1/4 into the season. theres no way the pacers are gonna get proper value for him talent-wise. i mean i heard one suggestion of quentin richardson as a possible trade, just cos their salaries match. wtf? one of the nba's best defenders and a 20-ppg offensive threat for quentin fucking richardson? if this is the standard of potential trade options, the pacers are gonna get screwed royally in any trade scenario.

Manu boggles my mind like Peja at the moment (the Kings boggle my mind full stop! looking forward to seeing how the Nets go in the next 2 weeks or so.. they are sitting nicely at 22-16, but have to face:

81 man i know he has nobody to pass to, but for fucks sake triple team him or something.
Just looke dat box score he took 46 fucking shots !!! 46 !!! Man you take 46 you better score at least 81 points, i remember Jordans first come back (#45) where he took 29 shots and people were amazed !! 46!!!
On another note what the fuck where Toronto doing ?? Triple him if you have to for fucks sake.
bricktop712

yeah 46 shots
but he shot a shade over 60 percent though (and 7/13 from beyond the arc). you gotta give him credit for that though - that's red-fucking hot!
Oh hell yeah he shot ok but i still only call it just a pass mark to justify 46 shots in my eyes you better shoot at at leat 75% on the night.
Oh well they won, his team still sux but he is rich.
81 points on 60% shooting and your only giving it a pass
Im not a big fan of Kobe but I have to say that is an amazing performance. I havent seen the game but looking at the box score Lakers were down 14 at halftime and Kobe dropped 55 in the 2nd half - sounds like an absolute game winning performance to me (Yes I know Toronto isnt a srong team)
Don't get me wrong he won the game off his own back and scoring it is an outstanding acheivement, i was just talking about the justification in shooting that much.
Answers simple - the rest of the Lakers suck!!!
Phil & Kobe know that if the Lakers are going to win he has to carry the team. Which means we can expect to see more scoring performances like this from him for the rest of the season - remember he dropped 60 odd against Dallas in 3 quarters

the whole artest situation is intriguing!
i think minny would be the best place for ron - can't see it working anywhere else. dallas maybe, although they're doing very well atm and artest could wreck it for them. the knicks? their roster is filled with chumps on mammoth contracts. nothing the pacers would want.
as for the lakers, they already have too much knucklehead with kobe to even consider bringing another one in!
Yeah if kobe couldnt cope with Shaq he has no chance of coping with Artest. New York is def the best fit for him, all headcases and near his QB "homies" hell Indiana may as well just take anything the Knicks offer.

So Steve Kerr reckons that Kobes 81 has wrapped up the MVP for this year (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AibOoE_2oAT132aGRYcQwS68vLYF?slug=sk-kobe012306&prov=yhoo&type=lgns) right there and then.
What do you guys reckon.
I was baracking for Elton Brand, but thats just team bias...
Kobo has been averaging plus 40 since Dec 20, and even though they started badly i cant see the Lakers not making the playoffs...
Kiralenko, Nowitzki might have made it instead, or maybe one of the pistons (too bad they are such a team...)
bricktop712
24-Jan-06, 06:19pm
nah. well that's the thing innit.
i reckon mvps should be awarded on the basis of individual excellence within the parameter of team excellence (ie winning) - 81 pts is off the richter but that negates the fact that kobe has spent far too much of the year jacking up too many shots and that the lakers are still no better than a first-round exit come may.
my midseason mvp has to go to dirk - the mavs are tied for the league's second-best record and dirk is shooting the lights out.
but yerr, as for the pistons, it's hard to single out one player as strong arguments could be made for any of the starting five! it will be shambolic if no piston suits of for all-star weekend though.
mikeynom
24-Jan-06, 06:52pm
Steve Nash would have to be up there considering how well the Suns are doing without Amare... He probably deserves it more than last year so far. I thought Shaq shoulda won last year.
Dirk would be in contention too.
Tony Parker has got to be close to an MVP in the next few years.. he is improving out of sight - and even leading the league in POINTS IN PAINT! i would say that Lebron will be MVP this year.. especially if the Cavs continue to finish in the top 5 in the East.
just watched the Nuggets beat the Spurs, as i had it recorded from a few days ago, and it was fantastic to watch. Denver is playing excellent exciting basketball - run and shoot.. much like Phoenix and New Jersey. Earl Boykins is so damn good.. got to be up there for 6th man award. the best part of the whole game was seeing Duncan actually show some emotion - as he got pissed off that the Spurs were losing in the 4th quarter.. good to see him actually be a real person!
Alistair
25-Jan-06, 02:20am
The tony parker one is a good call actually. When he is on the court, the spurs dominate. When he is on the bench is the oppositions only window to come back. Ive seen three spurs games this year, and its was so remarkably apparant in each game I cant call him anything but totally valuable.
Yeah i'd say it will go to either kobe or lebron, take either of them out of their teams and not a lot is left.
I know it should go to somebody whose team wins because of them but the bulls were average when MJ won his first.

well personally, i'd say that kobe is a lot more valuable to lakers. lebron has a pretty good supporting cast led by larry hughes (whom they have struggled mightily without). they have an all-star center and a decent power forward.
the lakers only have odom who's more well-known for smokin da blunt.

Ricky Davis, Mark Blount, Marcus Banks, Justin Reed and two conditional second-round draft picks -> Minny
Wally Szczerbiak, Michael Olowokandi, Dwayne Jones and a future first-round draft pick -> Boston
Nets lose 4 straight on the road.. then come back home and beat the Pistons (who were on an 11 game win streak) - what is going on?
Just watched the Suns demolish the Sixers... i think they have a better team than last year and when Amare is back they will be true contenders in the West.
Also - the dunk contest lineup is finalised, after Lebron declined, so its.. Nate Robinson, Hakim Warrick, Andre Iguodala, and defending champ Josh Smith.

ok so here are the starters for the all-star game -
East
G - Iverson
G - Wade
F - Lebron
F - J O'Neal
C - Shaq
West
G - Nash
G - Kobe
F - TMac
F - TD
C - Yao
your thoughts?
just registered for the salary cap challenge ... its on!
All-Star starting lineup is pretty much predictable. Only one i have a bit of a query bout is JO as an east starter... Sheed or Big Ben should be in that spot!

gotta remember its a popularity contest.
chauncey has no chance against AI or Flash...
if you havent played the fantasy thing before - the key is to look at the 'schedule analyser' and look for when teams are playing lots of games.. as you only get 2 trades per week. a decent player getting 4 games in 1 week = way more points than a great player getting 1 game in the same time span.

The coaches get to chose the bench players. I'm tipping Hamilton & Billups will be in the team.
well i was referring to the starters.
i dont think (although somewhat deserved) we'll have 4 pistons in the all-star team.
i hope Carter gets in the team - always great to have his flashy dunks in the all-star, but he does deserve to make it, as he has been playing some of his best ever basketball for the Nets this season.
Nets just won their 11th straight at home :D

Man, these knicks sure do know how to throw a game away... If you have time, go see the clippers/knicks highlights on nba.com from todays game, its unbelievable
just watched the Mavs win their 12th straight - they are such a great team.. performing consistently every night.
Pistons have now lost 2 in a row - its a crisis! they are showing New Jersey @ Detroit next week live here in the UK.. looking forward to see if NJ can finally take their form on the road.

I reckn he'll get picked up by someone in the NFL. He's definately worth the risk! One more strike n he'll be out though. I'd love the Vikings to grab him.
Nets win again :D Carter was playing like it was a game of HORSE.. one of the 360's he did around two defenders had so much spin on the ball :tripping: bound to be in the top 5 plays of the year.
very funny article on ESPN about everyones chances of winning the title..

i dont think the pistons should have had 4 all stars! 3 would be fair... but 4?
Going by that Dallas and SAS should have had 3 each because they are only 2 games behind Detroit in a harder division, having played a harder schedule (going by the SOS on espn)!

How good was the Saturday night of the allstar weekend!!!
Whilst the rising star dunk comp had heaps of misses, still was top quality from the young tyks!!
That dunk from Robinson where he jumped over spud webb was pure gold!!
Good to see a fellow 7fter win the 3 pt comp too..............nothing like seeing a 7fter dropping it from downtown!!

Very lucky.............I think the other guy got robbed when the judge changed his score to make sure he didnt win...........
How funny were Magic & Sir Charles???
GOLD!
That behind the backboard dunk from Iguodala was just insane. See how he had to bend his neck backwards to stop his head hitting the bottom of the backboad?
Its a shame when they miss the first dunk as everyone then knows what dunk they are pulling out. It takes away the 'surprise' element.
Josh Smith made an ass of himself by going and putting that masking tape down. Magic and Barkley sure didnt let him forget about it aswell.
Yes Nate is only 5"9' but still, it took 14 attempts before made that last dunk.
I wonder how much further they can take the dunk. I cant remember who I was watching a while ago. They were practicing (and had made) 360 between the legs...

I still have the blockmount of jordans super dunk in the late eighties........
Didnt that win the best dunk ever in an online poll on the weekend?
I think Carters from 1999 or thereabouts came in second....
