why is that everytime I end up at melt archie is playin the same records the last 5 times I was there. Isn't he DJing for endorphin? Therefore why can't he buy some new freakin records ? Chris Fresh plays some nice fresh (sorry) tracks then archie comes on with some voodoo style crap. Half the crowd (ie. the most unknowledgable dance crowd since my old high school discos) cheers and the other half groans in the knowledge that they can already name most of the "pumpin" tracks that are about to be played. ie. schonenberg, nightingale. And although he can scratch good it doesnt hide the fact the track sucks. Ken Jensen ain't much of an improvement, the high nrg stuff makes me want to take my shirt off and blow my whistle! (sad sad sad) a few more guest Dj's wouldn't hurt on a saturday night either. ie. Vance musgrove was pretty good at steve lawler the other week or milkbar nick etc etc. It is a sad state of affairs in the nations capital when the premier night is hard house and high nrg for a majority of the night. I know other nights for breaks etc are available but its a fuckin saturday and I want some quality music in a quality club, is that too much to ask?

Well I'm sure we're all very sorry that Melt doesn't play the music YOU want it to. Archie, Jensen and the rest are playing what the majority of the crowd wants to hear. I admit Archie tends to play some oldies, but it seems to me like you are complaining that they aren't playing the style of music that YOU like. So if you don't like it then go and organize your own partys.

thanks for the feedback ross...

milkbar nick was a guest last week, and in july we've got ben henderson playing a guest spot as well, so it's not all orrible ard ouse. look out for more guests in the future including anjay.

sounds to me like state will be right up your alley though..(friday 13 july, don't miss it)

I'd like to see how varied YOU'D be when you play every single weekend.

"Half the crowd (ie. the most unknowledgable dance crowd since my old high school discos) cheers and the other half groans... " ie. the people who either are aqquainted with Arch and/or have been cheering for Arch for years because, believe it or not, some people actually LIKE HIM. And the other half groans? ie. the half that is you, and pretty much only you. People aren't going to groan Arch, because they know full well what's coming because Archie is very consistent. They might say 'I'm not in the mood for an Archie set tonight', but they're not gonna whine because they were expecting some amazingly different and fresh set. It's MELT for gods sake. We're fortunate enough as it is to have Archie, Freshie and Ken doing *residencies* in the first place. Be thankful for what you've been given. Moron.

What on earth do you expect in a city with a population of around 300 000??? I have to say I've heard some of the same tracks played by Archie a few times, I was horrified earlier this year when I heard 'feel the beat' during one of his sets. But give the guy a break - I mean how well does he scratch?? Anyone got the CD that was given away with tickets to Twisted Generation 1?? This CD is a fine example of the talents of Canberra's two top DJs. Yeah, I love going to Sublime at home in Sydeny, I went to Utopia, I spent New Year's at Mobile Home and saw Dimitri at Afterglow, but I'm still having a ball when I go to Melt on A Saturday night. As are many other Canberrans.

Canberra has a fabulous clubbing/rave scene - especially given our small population! I recall hearing Chris Fresh doing a funky arsed mix of dooms Night and Star 69 at Melt at the start of the year - his whole set was great, despite these two 'frequently played tracks'. He and Archie also play great sets at the bigger events held at UC and ANU refecs. Melt is Canberra's club night, nice and kicked back, some would say it's as comfy as Heaven was. Then we get the big events with their big names in, I mean just this year, in Canberra, I've seen Plump DJs, Steve Lawler, Mark Dynamix, Nik Fish....the list goes on...and soon we get Gatecrasher! We had Ministry last year, it doesn't get much bigger kids, what do you want them to do?? Open a Miss Moneypenny's in Old Parliament House?? Not a bad idea actually....

In short, Archie and Chris Fresh are class DJs and the other Melt residents, like Jensen Nash T and Chavasse are doing a fab job too. Where would we be without them? We might have to go to Mooseheads - I wouldn't wish that upon anyone.

Melt is always is going to be a fun night. $5 is pretty damn good value for money to see djs such as archie & chris fresh...and people still fork out more to see those guys. A good example of that is people wondering why I still was heading out to frostbite when archie wasn't playing.

Actually thinking back to last year, people always complained about Heaven on regular Saturdays too...I personally enjoy them because Friday night I get my antisocial hardcore dancing off the working week vibe out of the way and concentrate on getting one with the music ...and then Saturdays are my night to be social, relax, cut loose, enjoy my friends not focus hugely on the night...yeah I personally love melt...I skillfully avoid the drunks which have every right to be there as much as I do (and @ least they keep it going longer with the hugely relied upon bar)...

See u up there next weekend.. :)

im with ross on this one (weird to call you ross :)

mostly trashy crap...we need real nights like state last friday. heard some of the best music, deep, dark and tribal - if anyone has the chance to catch the next one on Aug 31, you WON'T be dissapointed. I danced my ass off all night, couldnt even stop the next day.

Two thumbs up the both DBoy and Chris Fresh whos track selection and mixing skills shone through...lovely work guys!
