Yes King Street is to Thai what Mcleay St is to strip joints...
Is there a point to this thread?
ive only ever been to 2 food places on king st (neither being Thai). The Singapore place was shit and the Indian/Pakistan was average.
Can anyone recommend a decent place on that st?

i would be very cautious about eating anything on King st Newtown, from my previous experiences that is! I imagine there are a couple of good places but the few i have been to have been more than a let down.

New Italian place called Twelve was excellent.
It's closed for renovation at the moment but Suma Lee (?spelling anyone?) behind the Bank Hotel is (in my opinion) among the best Thai in Sydney.

Doytao down the south end of King is consistently awesome, their lunch specials especially - $6.50 for a monstrous plate of awesome
'Thai Times Nine' on King st up the City rd end is deadset the best quality for money meal you will ever get. I go there like 4 times a week and it gets packed out most lunch times.

fuck oats daytoa thai, that place kills it
quality food cheap price huuuuge servings
place is always packed out so usually gotta book or expect to be squeezed into little corners
Sydney in general has an INSANE amount of Thai joints, but yes, King Street takes the biscuit.

Great food, but it's a dead set rip off.

No.. there's a couple of places. That's about it. Doy Thao being one of them.
Unfortunately, you'll find that most people can't determine the difference between what is actually decent and what is shit. Of course they think they do, but they don't. Similar parallel to why Paul van Dyk is number 1 DJ in the Top 100 poll and McDonalds serves more meals than anyone.
World record for most thai food on one street... I'd say that record is held in Bangkok.

Having never been 2 thailand , i would like to see the difference in the aussie version of thai food and the actual real stuff, most prob alot different i presume.
I should just bloody go , its hard to save as an apprentice, soon..
yeah royal of course there is more thai food over there mate,i was just spun out on how many thai eats there was
When i skate home i will count them all the way from the start of king up near pizza haven to the end of king st peters station i spose, id say maybe 15 or 16... : ]

Big Boy Thai in Stanley St must have changed owners recently because their food has gone downhill in a BIG way. :(
19 was the highest count of places serving a Thai style menu but alas several places have shut down so the number would be around 15 -16. I would count again for official numbers but cbf.

No no no.
You have to learn the trick with Sumalee. The dishes are HUGE. I go there with my girl and her friend, we order ONE barramundi and prawn curry for $32 plus one rice each and that feeds the threee of us nicely. ;) $13 each!
A few years back I did a count too and got to 19.
The only ones worth going to are Sumalee, Banks Thai on Enmore Rd, Thai Potong, Newtown Thai, Doy Tao and Laddas (takeway only) in south Newtown.

I lived smack bang on King street for 6 years.
Newtown rocks for many reasons.
From my personal experiences I highly recommend The Bank hotel, expensive but you can almost taste the green dollars you pay.
And Thai Pathong is also very nice.
I feel home sick now :(
Having never been 2 thailand , i would like to see the difference in the aussie version of thai food and the actual real stuff, Perhaps you should try Spice I Am on Wentworth St for reasonably priced and authentic food.
Or we could talk Vietnamese food and the authenticity of the local product. Head to Campsie or Marrickville and drool away.
Does anyone know of Laotian food here in Sydney?

Oh, ok. Cheers. I ordered some prawn dish (and there wasn't many) and no rice. Prawns are normally more expensive though and I was down to my last $50 and was up for a jug of Coops. It was good food as I said. Best to stay away from the prawns there then.

Can you recommend a good Vietnamese place in Marrickville? :)
Yup, we always head to Pho Bac on Illawarra Rd... It's on the same side of the road as that Joe Banana grocery shop (or whatever it's called) but a bit further down, heading away from the main strip. They even had some bia ba ba ba in the fridge last time we were there!
 YES, the shittiest looking ones are the best!
Awesome, thanks for the suggestions :)
Redambition - I'm vego too so it's good to hear that place will cater for me well

There is a good Vietnamese on King St, the north end, just past Missenden Rd towards the city on the left. A small place with friendly owners and the food is good. Can't remember the name (and I ain't talking about the big one on the corner).

Yeah.. that was a surprise. I'll try and buy it off them next time! :D

I went there on monday and the food was fantastic!
Shame the bank is under construction at the moment. I cant believe they can afford to shut it down for 6 months over summer!

Have you been to the Blue Mountains? Went there a few months ago for a girls weekend... decided one night to get thai.... we didn't think we needed a map for the right Thai place that was 'near Katoomba station' but turns out there's 4 or 5 within walking distance of eachother...
Thai is taking over.

So i hear. Theyre completely gutting the place and adding a massive balcony. You have to wonder if summer is the best time to construct though. Hmm just in time for winter!
