Didn't really rate crobar... There are better clubs in NYC that are dedicated house/techno nights.

Crobar is a nice club but it's a bit cheesy, plus most of the big clubs like crobar also have Hip Hop room... meh.

But yeah check out Deep Space @ ceilo on a Monday night. Mad music and the club although small is amazing. Think its won best house club in NY for four years running or something???

Spirit is a slightly smaller version of Crobar. This also has a Hip Hop room. Overall Crobar is a nicer club to Spirit. Not sure about techno nights though, could be more of a help if it was house you were after.

Regardless keep Monday night free for Deep Space.

If you like trendy little hidden away bars with mad house music check out APT, go there on a Sunday night.

There are a few NY club threads around, do a quick search, there might be one for techno nights.

had the chance to see erick morillo rip crobar apart with a 10.5 hour set back in june. the place can be great or crap, and it largely depends on the crowd that turns up. just check who's playing and turn up about midnight so you can go straight to the main room and not be forced to wait in the hip hop room.

cielo is awesome but francois' night might not be the thing for a techno lover. he plays mostly dub, but with a little bit of electro and disco thrown in.

my choice would be this guy, mostly because he doesn't get out of the city much

Crobar seems to be a more trance oriented club, I saw Ferry Corsten play a fantastic 6 hour set this past July there. The club itself is pretty good [apart from the hip hop bit you have to walk through to get to the main club] and the sound system isn't bad, but the crowd was definitely shit that night. I saw an Asian family (Mom, Dad, son and daughter) all farked on pills in a group hug dancing/swaying in the middle of the floor. Freaked me out a bit. You could find that kind of thing in any NY club I suppose...
Avalon and Spirit [Liebing and Speedy J are there on the 19th of Nov.] are both good clubs, just check up on who's playing the night you plan to head out.
Oh yeah, drinks in NY are ludicrous. That night at Crobar I bought one round of drinks [2 Coronas/2 tequila shots], came to US$36. No more drinking after that, since other goods are all too easy to come by... :)

Spirit is a slightly smaller version of Crobar. This also has a Hip Hop room.

Danny Howells played at Spirit, so I caught his 5hr+ plus set. All the club (upstairs and downstairs) was open. Great atmosphere there. Had gone there on another night, and like you said there was hip hop playing. I didn't realise this, until I paid $30US and was walking up the stairs

Didn't have the chance to visit Crobar, but both clubs are just the next street up from each other.
