im after a 3ch mixer.
so far i have narrowed it down to two - based on specs and features:
1. Vestax PMC170a
2. Stanton RM3s
I have heard great things about the Vestax, but nothing about the Stanton. I find that the EQs and kills on the vestax are a little too close together on the Vestax, and think this may be a problem. The Stanton has a few more features that i like as well. What is the sound quality/longevity/performance like??
Im heading towards the stanton, purely because i think the kills are too close to the EQs on the vestax. Any help wouled be appreciated.
Are there any other brands that i should be considering around the same price? My budget is around $750, which is what i can get the vestax for.
Thanks.

Well if its any help I can add switchable curves on your crossfader for $40.
I use a Vestax PCM05Pro. Only two channels, and no midrange EQs, but one of the toughest mixers ever. They were desinged with scratching in mind, so they can't be that bad. Only irrtation is the fact that the voluem sldies for each channel are really sapced out between volumes 0 to 7, then it goes through 8, 9 and 10 in a very narrow space. Not so good for subtle mixing of trance, prgressive or tech... but great for scratching.
Apparently this is worse on the Stanton. A friend has one, though I am not sure if it the same model you are looking at or not. It has next to no zero zone.... the vol slide jumps to near full volume at about the 4 or 5 mark. Obviosuly designed for scratching but crap for anything else.
I'd lean towards the Vestax if toughness and longevity is your main focus. They are great value cos they are indestructible.

Thanks....
Has anyone ever used or heard about Ecler mixers??
There is one model which sounds sweet- the SMAC30. Same deal as the Vestax and Stanton, but from all reports, much better construction and sound quality.
Help??
BTW: Check out state...the last one was awesome. Oooh so nice tunes!

Ecler make some very tuff mixers, but they cost the bomb, and I'm not sure what kinda costs/ease you're looking at should something go wrong with it..
and yes, apparently they do sound fucking brillient.

wise chocie trippa,
i have an SMAC 32 (the old SMAC 20) and it really is a very very good home mixer. The crossfader has had its time, so i need to get that replaced. I'll keep you up to dte on the cost.

why not go the 06pro?
stanton are very similar in volume midrange to american dj,
so if u are lookin for smooth fades i reccomen stanton,
if u are looking for durability, go the vestax...
DONT GO TO TANDY! lol heheheh

I forked out on the weekend and bought a Pioneer DJM 600.....Have been usign a generic 3 ch for about 4 years.....the pioneer is the best damn $2000 i have ever spent....it really makes a hell of a difference....nice, smooth and does what it's told!
MUNGO: Well if its any help I can add switchable curves on your crossfader for $40.
hey mungo,
how do you do this?
calico
trade secret calico, but basically i add a switch near the crossfader so instead of changing your crosfader between the linear and log you just hit the switch and there you are. $40 well spent if you ask me.
it sounds like a great idea. i guess that would get rid of any warrantee on the mixer.
i have the vestax 170. and it's annoying when you're doing any cutting to have the linear fade...
well then calico drop us a line @ aistorm@netspeed.com.au and i can get on to it.
i think that until you've been playing for a few years anything more than a basic mixer is a bit wasted.
mixers like the Rane Xone are really only worth the money if you have time to use all the effects. i'm pretty happy with my vestax 170, tho if i bought it again i would have bought one of the tougher battle mixers.
i recommend that you just go for it! there are a few sales going in sydney at the moment. one shop in enfield is selling the stanton battle mixer #5 i think for 299 which is a pretty awesome price for a mixer that is probably all you need...
have fun, cal

back after a long absence....
i ended up getting the ecler SMAC-20 after returning the vestax 170a.
the ecler is damn nice - much better quality than the vestax, as well as sounding a whole lot better. anyone considering a new mixer, check out the ecler range, they are smooth as butter.......
