Personally for me it was 1 of the best short television series I have ever watched. I can't understand why it was axed.

synopsis

18-year-old George Lass (played by Ellen Muth) dies when a toilet from the MIR space station falls from the sky and hits her. However, soon she discovers that afterlife really does exist... she becomes a reaper - she helps in catching the souls of people moments before they're destined to die. Then she meets a group of reapers who collect people's souls. The main reaper is Rube (played by Mandy Patinkin), who is always playing smart, Roxy (Jasmine Guy), a reaper with an additude, Mason (Callum Blue), a confused and funny reaper and Daisy (Laura Harris), a beautiful reaper full of mysteries. The other characters include George's family - mother Joy (Cynthia Stevenson), father Clancy (Greg Kean) and sister Reggie (Britt McKillip), who each have their own way to deal with George's death.

Now that she has a new life, George will try to deal with her new job as a reaper and the fact that she is dead. While learining some important lessons, George gets a job at Happy Days, a office leaded by Delores Herbig (played by Christine Willes), a funny woman who is always optimistic and tries to be everybody's friend while leading a perfect life. The other recurring characters include Crystal (Crystal Dahl), a Happy Days secretary that does not talk way too much and Der Waffle House's waitress Kiffany (Patricia Idlette). The only bad move was Rebecca Gayheart's removal from the show. Appereantly, she was unable to renew her contract so her character was sadly written out of the show.

The main description for the show is "funny and morbid". It debated on Showtime in 2003. The show became an absolute hit very soon and some people even payed to view Showtime just to watch the show that everyone talks about. However, just a year after, when season 2 finished, the show was unexpectedly cancelled by Showtime, which was one of the worst moves ever for a tv station like that. Then, MGM tried to sell the show to another station, but the attempt failed and the show was left dead.

it was a really bizarre idea for a show but it was exactly that fact that made it able to get away with some seriously dark, intelligent comedy

it was one of the few shows I regularly tuned in to watch

I didnt know it was axed - are you sure - I'd though the third season was still being done

I'm not sure either, maybe we should google the hell out of it and see whats goin on. I was greif stricken when I thought it was all over... Also I noticed in the synopsis it refered to the Happy Time Temp Services as Happy Days Temp Servies. I have the Happy Time screen saver on my work PC.

Extremely good. It just hits all the right spots for me - funny and moving and dark and clever without feeling pretentious. They nailed the 9-5 experience totally, and the other characters are just so loveable and reflect everyone's little quirks and desires - they're very real. The way each episode has a theme and everything subtlely ties into it... man i can't say enough good things about this show. I've been telling everyone how great it is but noone cares. Ah well. My secret :)

me too, but I just can't illustrate to anyone just how good this show is. They just go "eerr ummm yeah I'll check it out. I need to talk about it, I feel so alone in my experience lol. :meh:

This sounds really good. I only get two channels in my little backwater non-town, so I'll look out for this at dvd stores.

Yeah, I really enjoyed it.. I only managed to catch it a handful of times on paytv (i'll have to scan the guide again sometime soon)..

I can understand, though, why most people wouldnt like it.

I might invest in the dvds.

This was a great show. Very disappointed to find out they cancelled it after Season 2 as I was looking forward to season 3.

At the time it was cancelled, there was talk of the producers trying to find another network, but nothing seemed to come of it.

The creator of Dead Like Me went on to do this show called Wonderfalls. I only know this from browsing the IMDB. Apparently that was canceled a couple episodes into the first season, but a DVD set was released of the full season which was critically acclaimed. The premise looks similar to Dead Like Me, though even wackier, so i'd definitely be keen to check that out. Gotta get a region free DVD player that actually works first but.

I have no money this weekend so i've spent the day at home flicking channels and drinking beers and i accidentally found Wonderfalls on channel 100!! What an awesome show. It's missing a bit of the grit of Dead Like Me, but the humor and pacing are great. I laughed, i cried. This guy should be a screenwriting legend.

I know, I am up to episode 7 and completely hooked (again). "See a coin, pick it up". Her family crack me up, especially her sister.

This is a fantastic show, Ive been meaning to see if there was thread about it and now i found it.

Really dark and funny with some clever lessons and insights into life.

I cant work out if Jorge/Milly is hot or not! One angle she looks great and then the next BLAH!

I like this show alot but please explain what the deal is with them being able to be seen and stuff.

They are grim reapers which everyone can see but then the dead people can see them as well. So what the go?
