Hi i apologise if there has been one of these before, but im getting desperate now since leaving the shores of old blighty, now it has to be good (english style curry house) ive been to some shockers in the city. (microwaved pompadoms and butter chicken wont do anymore...) there has to be a good curry house in this town, Please help.
Cheers
Winston
The city is a no go zone for curry.
Curry palace in neutral bay.. its just a small take away joint with 3 tables if you choose to dine in (or out on the footpath) Best butter chickun in Sydney. (or they used to be about 3 years ago)

That's had me stumped for going on a year now...
Definitely Faheem's on Enmore Road.

Nilgiri's Restaurant in st Lennords is bloody great
True, and it has the added bonus of having the Tavern over the road for a few refreshing ales to wash a great curry down.
yeah, it is my fav... we usually get arjoy to order for us... no complaints yet :D
Faheem on Enmore Rd, Enmore
hands down!
Faheem on Enmore Rd, Enmore :thumb:
Best place in Sydney.
Is faheem the small one closer to the enmore end of enmore road? When i lived there thats where all the indian cab drivers went. They did a great Tandoori Quail.
But i would have to say that Surjits on Parramatta Road in Annandale is the mother of all north indian resturants. djsimonmann ..they home deliver also if your near there.
They have the best tandoori Lamb Ive ever had, thier Kormas and other currys are the dopeness.
Its actually where the Indian Cricket Team eats when they are here (Ive been in there when they were all there after test tour and Surjit and signed bats etc all over the place).
I hear he has on in the City also.
There was great north indian in Balmian as well, cant remember the name though cos I havent been there in ages ..not as good as Surjits though.

.
Yep, but they moved a while back, still on Enmore Rd but closer to Newtown.
Dhaba Maya on Cleveland St is the bomb, as is The Clove on Crown.
Blue Elephant (think that's what it's called)in Milson's Point rocks.
Indian Fantasy on King St is fairly cheap and decent.....but for teh best ruby murray...it has to be my pad (espo. when mum and dad come over from London). Dad makes teh best Chicken Madras!!!
Dad used to own Indian Restaurants in London.

faheems is off the hizzle espeacially the next day
Faheems rules. I used to eat there 3 times a week. Now I'm further down the road and too lazy...
the best ever curry place I've bneen to was a pub in chippendale - its closed now but it used to be run by two indian blokes who'd moved to sydney from fiji - best curries, the beer was perfectly gassed and the perfect temprature - I think it was their attention to detail that cost them though, went out of business after about a year
but seeing as you're english you'd probably be just as happy with a crappy north indian diner or butter chicken or something - the curries in england arent that great, it just seems that way in comparison to the rest of the crap food there
and not that's not meant to be a wind up so dont bother arguing back all you poms
as far as cheap and decent take-ways goes the goat biryani at the little take away place on crown st, about 3 doors down from the intersection with cleveland (on the pub side) is good - they dont always make it but worth eating if its there
there is a place on Burlington Road, Homebush that makes a pretty sweet Masala Dosai
EDIT: got to love google

I don't understand the love for faheem's. I had it once when I first moved into Enmore a couple of years ago and I found it WAY too oily. there were pools on top of the curry :meh: never been back.
do agree with the votes for dhaba on cleveland though

wot he said. Both my favs.
also Himalaya, great north road. Just follow the taxi drivers ...
I havnt really found any decent indian places in sydney and every single indian here tends to have exactly the same menu. Zaaffran in darling harbour is the best if you dont mind spending a bit more...but best to save the pennies to go back to london to get a proper curry.
Maya De Dhaba in Surry Hills or The Clove.
Oh Calcutta on Victroria St Darlinghurst
or
The Clove

The Number 1 Indian Restaurant hands down is Oh Calcutta in darlinghurst (dunno why it lost its SMH hat this year).
A cheaper and less flashy indian alternative is tandoori palace on oxford st.
(For anyone out there interested, both places are halal)

That is a pretty broad swipe!
I have been to alot of curryhouses in Sydney since moving back from England and have not had one curry anywhere near as good as from my local curryhouse in gloucestershire
Havnt tried dhaba's on cleveland yet though.
Will definitely give it a try

Zaaffran in darling harbour is the best if you dont mind spending a bit more...A mate of mine works behind the bar there, he's having his birthday dinner there Saturday night - so I think we'll be getting a nice 50% discount on the bill
Then it's onto Renaissance Summer Ball, with a tummy full of curry!

(Boz, angling for a tickle, maybe?)
Some of us studied/ lived in cuisine capitals such as Bradford and south Manchester. If you'll excuse the pun, curry hotbeds.
I'll have to check out Faheem's.
Zaffraan sucks big time. Too pricey, measly portions and shite service.
Tamana's in Newtown is great after a skin full of ale, mind.
Nepalese Kitchen on Crown Street serves up some tasty treats too, in a curry-esque fashion.

I also recommend House of Kathmandu in Glebe for Nepalese curry. The Nepalese Kitchen on Crown Street's not bad but House of Kathmandu is a cut above.
