On Friday, October 5 Canberra is invited to 'Party for Freedom' for the global defender of human rights, Amnesty International. Artists have donated their time and energies to the event in an effort to raise funds for Amnesty International so the world can secure a future of freedom.
Amnesty International aims to secure the release of political prisoners worldwide, to defend women's rights and a particular focus this year is on gathering support for the defence of children's rights. Too often around the world governments perpetuate offences against humanity, such as the death penalty in countries like the USA, China and Saudi Arabia or the taking of prisoners for political reasons.
For decades, Amnesty International has lobbied governments to change the laws and practices which allow human rights violations to continue. Amnesty International feed a constant stream of information to the media, to governments and to the United Nations, urging them to take action where human rights abuses are occurring.
You can make a difference - come to Club Habana on October 5, stand up, be counted and show the world that you care.
