Okay, so I've asked this question to every other city... so now I want to know your opinion Brissy :)

Who do you think are the best DJs in the genres of

DnB
House
Techno
Trance
Breakbeat

Also, what is the most popular genre of music in your city?

Enjoy the weather :)

Polecat
24-Jan-01, 08:00pm
House and Trance, all things progressive- Chris Tisdell, Allan Ho

Techno- Kazu Kimera

also worth of a mention- Cosmo Cater, who mixes it all up and throws in a scratch!

Progressive is building a nice scene, tek-house is starting to grow bigger, some ppl wanting to hear Tribal House ;)

I'll just pass on that whole hardcore/NRG/Hardhouse scene though...not for me, but okay for others.

*smiles*

oath... not much of a dnb head, but i hope i'm still doing what i love at his age...

why do we have to categorise them ... this only leads to the deepening of genres rifts :P

because.... some of us are more passionate or get more emotional over particular sounds than others.... which leads to picking out characteristics in those sounds... which leads us to genres...

it's funny how everyone whinges about other genres and/or then touts the awesomeness of their own preferred choices ... then complain about the state of the scene because of bickering and infighting between subcultures.

purists can suck my left one

one trick horses don't impress me much either

i still maintain this is at the root of the elitist wankery and trainspotting tedium that makes EDM a battlefield for those who just want to enjoy good music.

of course we need genres ... of course we do ... but i think it's the way people use and abuse them is the issue that everyone confuses with the actual need for them

and thank Streaky ... it's a smashing view atop my fence ... i can see for miiiiiiiiiiiillllllles !

i don't think it's funny at all... not too sure what you're getting at but if you're saying genrelising encourages genre wars... you're probably right... but no more than discussion itself... I'll discuss (and argue) about music with loopi, PornKing, Queanbo_booner and any other trance enthusiast as much as i do with anyone else...

likewise i've got friends that hate music i love that i see/talk to more often than other friends that love the same music as me...

i'll take the piss out of hardcore in jest a fair bit... but you'll rarely see me (or the majority of other trance fans) bashing other genres...

purists can suck my left one

one trick horses don't impress me much either

again not too sure what you're getting at... but if it's do with as you said on irc "it's not that plan-b listens to trance... it's that he listen's to it far more than any other genre" then trust me the least of my intentions of listening to a predominant genre is to impress you... the main intention of predominantly listening to the genre i do is to satisfy my aural (and emotional) needs...

i still maintain this is at the root of the elitist wankery and trainspotting tedium that makes EDM a battlefield for those who just want to enjoy good music.

of course we need genres ... of course we do ... but i think it's the way people use and abuse them is the issue that everyone confuses with the actual need for them

i think you're way off... subgenrelising like hard, melodic tech trance is a bit of a wank...

and to clear it up... i could be way off in what i'm interpreting what you're saying... i'm not taking this as a personal attack, nor am i trying to be defensive... simple discussion ;)

Dan Marshall is now living in London, he left about three weeks ago.

Personally Dan would have to be my favourite Dj... fullstop. He tops any local, interstater or international I have ever heard, personal pick of course, I dont know, just has a really different method of stringing a set together, very unique and entertaining.

I do not doubt he will hit the big time over there, good luck to him... His productions are coming along awesome too.. Have been playing 2 of his tracks religiously in my sets over the last three months.

I hear that jeremy J is a top Nrth QLD dj aswell, I am yet to hear him... maybe one day soon.

I'll second that for sure - Raye will be performing one of his increasingly rare tech-trance sets at Secret Sessions 2 which is an outdoor event in the Gold Coast hinterland on Sat Apr 1 - flyers are out in the usual shops on the Gold Coast Cruisy - theres over 14 dj's including The Score, JT Effect, Tranceducer, CY, Hexadecimal, myself, and plenty more....tix are only $10 too BARGAIN! :ahoy:

not baggin him, he does a great job This would be because I doubt that any punters that frequent either the mono or gpo have ever visited the ITM forums, or even know what the f%#k ITM is.

But just because he has to play to a pretty ordinary crowd, in pretty ordinary surroundings, doesn't mean he isn't a good dj. I recently saw gee play at empire on a friday night and he absolutley ripped the place apart. It was one of the most bangin' sets i've heard in a while.

And i would definately rate him up their with the best dj's in brisbane.

And the other best dj's in brisbane would have to be...
Rasp (breaks)
Cutloose (hiphop)
Kieron C (breaks and whatever he feels like playin)
Habebe and mr morley (house)
Brad and Marcus (breaks)
Julian Love (best disco collection ever)
and the always entertaining
