We are very excited to be bringing some of the world's hottest breaks acts to Canberra over the next few months.
It starts this Friday at the ANU with the return of the Freestylers. After blowing Sydney away on Monday the boys can't wait to come back to Canberra for their fourth visit.

26th of October is the date of Stomp 7. This looks like being the biggest and best yet with one the most impressive lineups ever seen for a Canberra event. We very proud to be presenting two of the areas. The breaks will be happening in the hub and on the bill are Phil K(Melb), Frenzie(Syd),Anjay, Kaos and Typhonic.

On November 2nd Adam Freeland will be playing at Club Habana. Freeland is without doubt one of the leading figures behing Nu Skool Breaks. On his last visit to Canberra in March he blew away a capacity crowd with a stunning 3 hour, 3 deck set. This will be one not to miss!

And last but by no means least on the 28th of December we're putting on a Christmas breaks extravangza at Club Habana. Two of the most exciting talents in the UK breaks scene will be playing in Canberra for the very first time. Tayo who along with Adam Freeland and Rennie Pilgrem is one of the original pioneers of nu school breaks. And the Stanton Warriors who are at the forefront of the Garage Breakbeat movement and are hottly tipped to become global superstars.

I was at the sydney gig on monday and it farken rawked!!

Heard rumours of Matt Cantor being a very messy MC at last years gig and he was a lil over the top this time too with....1...2....1...2....sydney crew!! hehe
but yeah it was all good.....

SO.....the reason im writing this post (apart from wanting to tell ya'll how much they rocked sydney) is to find out a lil bit about the `berra. I have never been out in Canberra and wanted to find out what im up for.....venue wise.....ppl wise.

Have heard all good things and I hear ANU can be good if setup well.....opinions?

anyway anyone keen to meetup and proceed to get trashy and jump around to the schtylas....reply to this thread.....

a set a lttle on the tired side at anu, after the greenstick last monday, but well worth the trip down. inspirational mattt cantor work on the dancefloor........massive. any localz know who the fem-dj was playing before freestylers?

Agree with altruistic......the boyz looked like they'd had a damn hard night the night before the gig at ANU. DJ before them was cool.....DJ after was one of the messiest i have ever seen (and ive seen messy) he was fooken terrible!! His track selection was awful (apart from a few) and sorry to go on but he really did suck!!

Venue was setup kinda strange......one half like a uni/pool hall style bar area and the other half was a thumpin dark dancefloor....whats the go? You couldnt even hear the music down the other end where the pool tables were. Would it be so hard to throw a coupla speakers up that end?? or better yet....put a DJ in that unused bar in the far corner and have him spin some tunes up there??

ummmm.....and why is it that ANU's alcohol lisense ceases at 4.00am yet they can serve those awful guarana beers after 4.00am?? doesnt make much sense to me.....

I thought it was allright, didnt slow me down any.

Not to diss anjay but after the their mammoth set i coulda danced to anything at all for atleast and hour after the last track finished, content that i had just witnessed Matt n Aston first hand.

When a DJ doesn't play all your favourite tunes it doesn't mean they 'suck.' Anjay was a'ight. His track selection certainly wans't terrible, it was different to the blinder of a set that the 'stylaz just played but it still had a nice flow. Anjay always takes the darker and mellower progressive road in his sets, it's what he does. It's not everyone's thing and i would have rather heard more of the jump-up freestylers style breaks but i reckon Anjay is a heaps skilled DJ.

Stylaz blew my mind

Poundin' breakz as only the stylaz know how.

The venue was refreshing for the Shitty ANU, but we still need a better venue for these types of events

The freestylaz was all time,
good vibe + crazy diced up breakz = happy me

see u all in the breakz area at stomp

Would somebody put a dick in that guys mouth, thats why its open, he wants someone to cum in it. He's a cock sucker in disguise and doesn't want to admit it.

Dude...camels dick... cock sucker... what ever, I can appreciate it when someone has an opinion. But to say "Freq Nasty On Crack" is out right offensive. Where do you play buddy? Lets here what you got. C'mon, show us all that your better. Put your money where your mouth is!!

An opinion is one thing, but offending someone who is just giving it a go, having some fun and who IS ACTUALLY GOOD is just stupid.

Ever heard of the ole' saying its a small world?? well, going around saying crap like that is just shitting in your own pocket.

Do you know what key mixing is???? Take a listen, after you have migrated out of pre-school and learn just what the hell it is, you will discover that Anjay does exactly that.

I think the only reason you can't hear the flow in Anjays mixing is cause your only used to the flow of the smack going throught he needle into your arm.

Dude, get some help.

I am sure that Ajay did not and will never see any sense of humour in you calling him "Freq Nasty on crack".

Why dont you take into consideration others before you open your fat gob!

ps, i didn't call you my friend, i don't want you to be my friend, and never will.
pss, i already know who you are, but you don't know who i am.

if skywalker says anjay sucked, anjay sucked. no questions.

if someone is "just giving it a go", they shouldn't be backing up the stylers should they?

"freq nasty on crack" - thats some funny ish, bro!

too much use of the word d*ck if you ask me.............i dont know what key mixing is, but i know the difference b/w opinion and outright b*tching........and it seems as though people are pushing those limits. i didnt like anjays work either, but thats my prerogative eh?

....mmmm thanks "ihatehypocrites"... I am being accused or it is being suggested that I am you but fortunately I am not thank goodness...I know who you are so you cant hide for long. I must say aliuses are not very good but at least you didnt put an email address up...this in its self proves that you arent MAN enough to back up your statements.

I enjoyed the Freestylers set in Canberra...it was closer to twostep at some points which wasnt what I was expecting but I loved it none the less...the guy afterwards...ANJAY yes he was darker and not as clean as I would have liked but "...you can't please all of the people all of the time..." and I still danced for a while before taking the SYDNEY MASSIVE outside to chat with the STYLERS and get ready for our journey home....

THIS IS A BIG SHOUT OUT TO IHATEHYPOCRITES... there is no need to be so personal on a PUBLIC forum...if you have an issue with Skywalker and his views then be MAN enough to face up to him and have some conviction and leave it off a public forum...you obviously know him...then talk to him face to face instead of hiding behind and ALIUS that is hypocritical in its self.

isn't it aliAs ?
Seems to me like Anjay = Ihatehypocrites.
Wtf is key mixing anyways...

Sir Pimpsalot
25-Oct-01, 12:04pm
key mixing is when a dj finds 2 tracks that 'harmonize' when mixed. requires 0 skill by dj, apart from perhaps practice and learning which tracks sound nice together.

if anjay was using a whammy (sp?) pedal plugged into his decks to vary the pitch of the tracks without affecting the speed, that would be skill. but i doubt he was doing that.

wassup with the capslock caroline?

chris fresh
25-Oct-01, 12:49pm
actually key mixing requires a great deal of skill.

you have to know the key of each record in your box & which keys it will mix with harmonically. you also need to know the tempo of each record and be able to calculate which keys it will work with based on that too.

so you don't just "find" two tracks that are in harmony, it's a science where you can put your set together so it is coherent and musically correct.

i recently taught a class on it a the act dj school. anyone who's interested in learning more should contact them.

Gregama

so then theoretically speaking, key mixing relies more on the records you buy, as apposed to your outright skill as a DJ... And I am assume this is over and above beat mixing...

bennybee
25-Oct-01, 03:19pm
just as much as anypart of djing would rely on the records that you buy i'd assume. man be one hot dj who could slice it up without any records.

like what pimpsalot said, if skywalker says he sucked, he sucked. i know the man well and have muchas respect for his opinions.

Ihatehypocrites: you pathetic jelly-for-a-backbone piece of shite, why dont you give the public forums back their dignity and drop me an email at skywalker@inthemix.com.au and discuss further your warped opinions on the world....or better yet you could just approach me next time you see me, seeing as how you know me....buddy :)

I stand by my claims that Anjay played a shitty set at the freestylers and i know im not the only one who feels that way. So either you are Anjay, or you have your tongue up his asse (which explains why you talk so much @!#$) or you are just a random idiot....either way its shoddy work on your part.

p.s - i am a dj, i go under the name nick skitz - heard of me?

..thats right, the heat is definately on...right under ihatehypocrites ass...that camels dick aint gunna be very comfortable up your anal CRACK dude.

a good dj can take any kind of criticism in their stride, accepting it as part of their status and arent going to have a baby sook about it....so why have one for anjay? pretty lame.
