Whats the go with this years stomp??
Can we expect the same shitty sound as last year or are we in for a treat??
VOLUME PEOPLE
I know that the twisted crew have input this year and they always have ample sound. Lets hope they bring in the badass system from hell to really get the party going.
And lets not forget twisted chopped up, badass breakz, cant wait.
Bring it on
Break it down
im only guessing here but id hazard a guess in saying last years sound wasn't too crash hot because the poor weather set them back in the way the setup was done??
id expect it will be a very good setup...firstly because they are having live acts, secondly because twisted is involved this year and thirdly the UCU has had a lot of feedback and they have spent a huge amount on the entertainment budget this year(but that could be just to secure the high profile acts??)
it should be kickass anyways, its all for the bargain basement price of $20 or free if ya go to UC! =]

$500k? What the hell? What reliable source did you hear that from?
Who secures this acts? The University or UCU?
MM will be back at his old haunting grounds for Stomp
I understood it that UCU do all the organising for this sort of thing...i dunno ask Marky he'd be the one to know i guess..
that sounds like an awful lot for a uni to be throwing around?
Ok - the stone week festivities - like almost everything non-academic at UC - is run by UCU - the Student Union. When I say "run by UCU", I have to be careful not to give them credit due other people. A lot of students in the last couple of years have voiced their criticisms to me over the lack of dance events and especially bands being put on at the university. In the last 12 months I'm pretty sure the only dance parties have been Twisted ones and the only bands are the PES Presents ones. UCU pretty much organises the entertainment for Beer O'clock, which sadly dies in the butt this year allegedly due to Students whinging aboutt he range of beer on tap. They also organise bar night. All their dance parties and larger bands are outsourced, as far as I know.
UCU do spend an absolute truckload on Stone week, especially Stone Eve - or Stone Night as it would perhaps be better described this time round, being on the Friday. $500K seems like a lot of money - I can't comment on that though, as I really have no idea. But yes, UCU foot the bill.
The people who do deserve the credit for the excellent lineup for Stone Night and Stomp are indeed Twisted, Landspeed Records, and PES Presents. The union sorta organise it all, and are responsible ultimately for the budget and the organisation. But the bookings as faras I know are all through the professional agents. I guess it kinda works under a contract arrangement. UCU aren't as well connected as Twisted, or Landspeed, or PES Presents. So they have brought out promotings big guns for the Stone Week festitivites.
I may not be 100% clear ont he details though - I'm sure Freshie or Blake or Pete Spcier could give you a more detailed picture.
Regardless, it will be one sick party....
If you see me there, come say Hi, or Goodbye as the case may be. Cos it'll be the last time most of you will see me for a couple years.

Mr Funky
As far as I know the sound should be a fairly good setup. I believe that Eclipse are doing the sound and they normally do the sound for the majority of parties around town, for those of you at Clash of the titans that was their rig in there. Oracle are bringing down a Full Color Laser for the setup inside the Refectory though and there are going to be hazers setup all around the room. Looks like a massive party.

I suspect that the trouble with volume last year was due to the HUGE number of complaints form as far away as Aranda and Lyneham the year before. (perhaps this is why Stomp is the only party allowed at UC these days).
I believe the budget quoted is very near to the mark.
I wouls also like to take this oportunity to thank Nick Dowse, James Matzarakis, Michael "Pickle" Nelson and Mr Fink for putting on the first Stomp and to James especially for running the first 6 stomps (stomp 4 will always be the best in my mind!) Our thoughts are with you wherever you are!!
I hope what started as an idea in the hub outside Iguana over drinks continues to grow and succeed. I just hope it hasn't grown too big for the vibe that made it so special.
NO RAIN, NO RAIN, NO RAIN!
The best party canberra has to offer in my book, it's almost a festival, at the rate it's grown it probably will be soon. I still think the euphoria just after dawn at stomp 4 will one will still be the most memorable in my party career. Peace mr Didge. Maybe the vibe Mr Dowse began can be relived tonight, i'm sure going to have fun trying. Hope some of you older "students" make the trip, see y'all on the other side!

highlights for me
Milkbar Nick's set early was great
Pound System yum yum
Phil K - damn that man works hard over the decks! was right in front of him for 1/2 an hour and his hands didn't stop working for a minute... have a much greater appreciation of his work and doesn't it sound good
GT - didn't think too highly of GT after Oddysey earlier this year but faith is restored, cracking set in the refec
Area 7 - comic relief
Cruel Sea - Tex is sex... my gf and I both want to hump his voice... :P
nice UC ovals close by to kick footy, fall over, lie in sunny grass

my stompy thoughts,
excellent set up. nice work
pity about the mamoth crowds
pound system should have headlined the main stage
sonic animation - i didn't feel it remind me of a bad versio of apollo 440 and thats saying something
infusion - what little i saw rocked it. have they released that cover of the dead heart?
typhonic - the boys a star nice fun set
the beeryboys were very scarey at times.
Stomp was great.
I really enjoyed Infusion and Mark Dynamix's sets.
Didn't get down to the Hub to check it out - tried a couple of times, but got sick of fighting the feral crowds along the way.
Lasers in Refec were great too. UC security/staff have to work on better crowd movement (although opening the other set of doors to the Refec helped!!) and toilets!!! I made the mistake of going to the downstairs loos early in the night - christ, what was that?????
Had a great night overall though.
WOW... did i have a good time....er... no I had a fuggen wikked time. The drive from Sydney was well worth it I dare say. The drive back was a mission...
Anyway my now defunkt 2 cents worth... LOVED on ink, Endorphin were a spectical I really enjoyed...sonic didnt get too inspired but Stomp was awesome..seeing as I was a lone dancer in crowds of peole sitting down the next say i guess you could say I was well up for a great set of adventures...
Respect out to the CU Massive for a great weekend and big Props out to the organisers...it rokked and I will be back if I am allowed.
MASSIVE ups to the canberra crew who offered their hospitality... Tripper you rock Steve and Claud... would love to see you again...cause you guys are the bestest...never a dull time when hanging with crew...

I've alwyas been told about canberra dancers, but never had a chance to experience any canberra nights. I would definately have to agree- canberra, you have some great funky dancers!!!
See you next year!

Pretty damn enjoyable night! All the acts i saw were tearin it up, but i gotta give much props to Typhonic. His set was ALOT of fun, even if he does get a bit hyper on the crossfader :p Only thing that was a bit of a letdown was the audio during pound system's set, @!#$ was terrible and i even saw the guys muttering profanities under their breath about it when the bassbins were cackling instead of thundering. ah well, only a minor glitch in an otherwise excellent night.
