I honestly, honestly do not mean disrespect to Jamiroquai or The Gay community.... but is Jamiroquai really popular amongst gay people?? Seriously, whenever I hear it I can just picture it being played at the gay n lesbian mardi gras or something

Hmmmmm maybe "little l", which IMO is one of the worst songs they have done... its not bad, but its commercial house, which isnt their forte... The gay community generally (as in Mardi Gras style stereotyping) digs commerical house for their dance, and mixes it up with trashy pop like kylie, s club etc... Im just going up the road now to a cafe owned by this lovely gay guy, who has made his cafe have a store policy to play Abba... ill ask him about his reaction to Jamaroquai...
Whilst having heard them too much has given me the shits with them a little, two of their albums are up there in my top 40 (ive got a lot of favs alright..) and there is seriously few bands as damn funky as them around today.
And any band that has a didgeridoo (sp?) player as a permenant member of their band even when they arent using him gets my respect, even if some of their songs do get boring quickly..
Oh yeah, and when i was really young, i thought they were a side project of a band called Better than Ezra... just thought youd all like to know...

Must admit...I got into Jamiroquai when I was a bit younger (round the time of the space cowboy); I love the early stuff and missed out on the Sydney show...everyone I know is still raving about it (esp. Stewart Zender the old bass player:)...must relate, cos I'm a bassplayer orginally. I agree with you that there's been a bit of a law of diminishing returns with that band though, Alistair (I actually thought little L and Funk Odyssey were crap). It gets a bit hard to take when you've got Jay Kay on the Naked Chef (did anyone else see that?) God, imagine being stuck in a room with Jay Kay and Jamie Oliver....aargh!
Better than Ezra...yes, I can remember them (don't know how you made the Jamiroquai connection, but then again, when I was in year 11, I orginally thought that the band Alice In Chains was Alice Cooper's new grunge side project.

I think it had something to do with early Better than Ezra and Jamariquoi film clips being rather similar... back then i was an avid top fourty watcher (still am, i love the charts with something like a morbid, sick obsession that has led to the losing of at least 1 girlfriend and the lack of respect from almost everyone i know ;) ) and both bands were in the late 30's etc so i wasnt really awake at the time... those first few songs always threw me.
Best song to ever hang around the bottom of the charts when i was in Year 7 - Hundred Miles and Runnin by NWA... damn top tune, and very little chart action hip hop has been of that quality since... given the R&B nature of the charts these days (70% or so) that says a lot about how evil the P.Diddy style has ruined it...
Jamariquoi were ruined for me when i was living in Singapore and MTV Asia totally fell in love with Cosmic Girl etc... any band that MTV Asia over played, i ended up hating (No Doubt, Bush etc) because it was mostly a boy band channel...

Heh...funny thing is, I dragged out my copy of NWA's 100 Miles and Running just 2 nights ago and blasted it out (one of the few good points of splitting with your partner is when you rediscover your old Dr Dre, NWA, Helmet and NIN records..but you guys don't need to hear about dat:)...man it was good to hear NWA; it actually hadn't dated that badly...that actually was the point at which I jumped off the hip hop ship (1993); and didn't get back for about 2 years) and then it was something UK, probably Urban Species or Tricky...
Oh well, for every DMX and P.diddy, at least there's a Roots Manuva and Solesides....:) I can relate to MTV asia wrecking music for you, though...every time I'm over there, Kenny Rogers seems to be every second film clip...scary

Back to Jamiroquai - I saw them in Zurich 5 years ago and they kicked ass. Jay went absolutely crazy. I'm also sick of "Little L" (how much rotation does it get on Triple J?!?) but hopefully they'll stick to some of their older stuff. I don't really think Little L would work well live, anyway...too hard to dance to.
