I'm just wondering if anyone else managed to see this?

Energy 52 - Cafe del Mar was #1
Paul Van Dyk - For an Angel was #2
Faithless - Insomnia was also right up there.

Not sure if I agree with these, nor some of the other stuff which made it in and stuff that was omitted (eg "For an Angel" but no "Avenue", "Heaven Scent" polling lower than "Xpander", no "Universal Nation" etc). Anyone else have any opinions?

Well, seems like it was more a poll of commercial popularity and achievement than a ranking based on actually production quality.

Yeah... i actually cant argue with the top 20 too much
The two notable omissions that came to mind for me were Coldcuts "More Beats And Peices" (or any coldcut track for that matter) and the Avelanches "frontier psychiatrist" (sp?).
Also Satoshi Tomies "Atari" (jaded vox in japan mix) or "love in traffic" should be in there if they arent (must admit, i skipped over the last 50 or so in the newsagent, so im not totally up with it...

I must agree...I'm a bit of an oldie, but I thought the Mixmag top one hundred tracks poll was absolute bollocks...I mean Energy 52's 'Cafe Del Mar' as the top track? I mean, this is Mixmag, so I was always expecting a heavily commercial slant, but it was as though the entire poll was comprised of people who had only discovered the scene in the last 3 years....
In my opinion, the following tracks would at least have been lurking round the top 5:

808 State: Pacific 202
Praga Khan : Injected with a Poison
Altern8: Evapor8 or Infiltrate 202
Future Sound Of London: Papua New Guinea
Meat Beat Manifesto: Mars Needs Women or Radio babylon
Shy FX: Original Nuttah

Anyway, I don't mean to come across as someone who's been 'down with the scene from day one' or anything smarmy...just bemused by the choices, thatz all...

ps...I agree, why no Coldcut....?

yeah...... btw, ne1 else enjoy it when Stanton dropped Injected with a Poison on Friday night? Im pretty sure it was the warriors..... bad memory again. But i think any list with the title 'best...... of all time' is full of @!#$, everyone has a different opinion and with Dance music covering such huge ground, even attempting is essentially a commercial venture from day one....... if not before.

i have to admit, i always feel a little warm and fuzzy and reach-for-the-laserish when i hear energy 52 ... ahem ... did any leftfield or underworld tracks make the top 20?

Im with you on that one livian... It is a damn nice track...
I think Born Slippy went top 10, cant remembr the leftfields highest position, but it cant of been too far off...

I think underworld were definitely in the top ten with Born Slippy (and my favourite track of theirs, Cowgirl, was lurking in the top 15 as well...I think Leftfield's Song of Life might have been there in the top twenty. I agree about polls...they are crap 'list-making' on the part of cheesy music magazines trying to boost December sales...you can't just rank music in a numerical fashion...I mean, how would you start to make comparisons between Massive Attack's Blue Lines, Jeff Mills' "Live4at the Liquid Rooms and Aphex Twin 'Come To Daddy"? They are all completely valid types of music that are sonically worlds apart (and still within that narrow band of music that makes up the electronic part of the spectrum. Sorry...rant over:)

Having said that...yeah, hearing Stanton's drop "Injected with a Poison" was the highlight of my night....

I agree with Energy 52 having the top spot, after all it was that track on the very first 'non-commercial' cd I bought, the "Hooj Choons Volume 2 compilation" that got me into this music, so I kinda have a little soft spot for the old cafe del mar track...
