I've heard this tingling little rumor about a new multi room club in civic, any one else heard that, or can any one confirm it??

Yes, have been hearing about this for a few months now. Apparently something was written in BMA. I'll believe it when I see it. Maybe I'm being pessimistic but I think it will be a quick ride to bankruptcy for whoever opens it (if it happens), I don't think that 'underground' dance music is popular enough in our town yet.

i've heard heaps of people saying this but sadly i'm pretty sure that this super club people are talking about is the holy grail. haven't been though so might be decent but judging by the type of music they've been advertsing for new years etc. would suggest any dance related nights would be last on their list. I do know that a few promoters are interested in using it as a venue but only time will tell

there is some serious truth to it. Guy from out of town has the money just looking for final venue to buy or rent. Will be dance music orientated and not another piss head joint. rumour might be old cash convertors but that is just speculation, if it is u heard it here first......

Went to Holy Grail on Friday night.
HillBilly music, and piss heads.
Althought it would be a nice venue for decent music. High cealing, funky interior design. Chill -out area upstairs.

It's seems too classy for another seedy canberra nightspot.

Holy Grail Civic aparantly is rather poorly designed, and the accoustics are shocking...
Anyway, i dont care how seedy it is, we need real music in civic again (no heaven, no red room, no real gypsy and babs is only good once every month, same as with areebar...)
And actually, i have the faith that it would work, and if i had cash to play with, id do it. And do it well... To the person thats thinking of setting one up - THE SOUND SYSTEM/ ACCOUSTICS MUST BE TOP NOTCH - DO NOT SKIMP ON IT... Its the only way your club will survive...

Well the god's honest truth is that a new club / bar is opening in Civic (probably more like a Gypsy bar type effect, with electronic stuff....both live performance and DJs planned. The venue is sorted, we are currently fitting out and moving in for an early January opening. It won't be quite like anything that's currently going on in town. I'd like to be able to tell you all more at this stage, but because it's a close friend of mine who is putting together the venue, and I'm involved more peripherally, I'd prefer to let him get ready first. When things are in the open more, you all will be the first to know what's going on (and we will want input from all of you as to how to make it great

Alistair, If I could convince adfa to have a decent club either at adfa or for them to give me some money, I'd sure do it!! most adfa cadets only go to the moose cos most adfa cadets only go to the moose... and most adfa cadets don't have the refined taste in music as we do....if it aint barnesy it dont matta...

Hmmm...I thing we'd be setting the bar pretty high for ourselves if we tried to replicate the unique vibe of Southpac:) Seriously though, Iwent to Holy Grail for the first time the other day and was pretty turned off. I agree that the acoustics look terrible for a big PA (but I'm sure that won't stop them from doing it) What bummed me out was the fact that it's the same old thing...investor (s) with huge amounts of money come into town, buy up massive place with several levels, install dj playing Wild FM cds, huge bald meataxe dudes with earpieces to do (in)security, and pump those beers and red bulls up to $5 / $6 apiece. What Holy Grail is, is a huge calculated money spinner that will bring the masses in by appealing to the widest crowd possible, this means Wild FM, loads of bourbon and beer, rednecks, Flickman's "Sound of Bamboo' etc...
Did you know that they spent 1.7 million doing the premises up? Think how much financial leeway they'll have to go out of their way to cover more interesting, fringey electronic stuff. Not a lot, methinks.
