yo,

what's the name of those international folks who played colossus 2 at eastern creek, someting like 'acapella', and their signature track with a breakdown with a similar sound to general base - poison (rythmn), ampthemine, dreams etc...?

and while i've got you, a track with the sample, 'the sound of the underground', with yet another similar breakdown/riff to those above?

thanks kindrid spirits...

Cappella's two big, make that massive tracks in Sydney from 1993 onwards were:

- U Got 2 Know
- U Got 2 Let The Music

Move On Baby got played only once out that I can think of (Paul Holden, some rave, maybe late 1994 or 1995). Definitely the weaker of the three, particulalry as all the mixes contained a really dodgy Euro rap (think DJ Bobo) in the middle.

i had all three on vinyl, yet craved the version of the U Got 2 Let The Music that Nik Fish plays on his 1994 Year In Rewind, featuring an extended, tribal groove opening. Really good.

And if my memory serves me correctly, he did a mash up of all versions of U Got 2 Let The Music at Prodigy 5, 1994. Though that might have been another track of the day, or another party, or maybe another life?

I went to both of the Colossus parties briefly. They were run by two different sets of people.
The first was at the State Sports Centre and had Transformer 2 and Dave Angel. One of the best/biggest lighting rigs i have ever seen.
I cant remember who the second one had.I think it was Capella.Way to many fly's at Eastern Creek in the morning.

Yep, DMC (Lighting & Sound) did this one.

Also avail on video with quite a neat mix by Peewee.

Have a copy, though really wish it were re-released on DVD.

I like Transformer 2, just seemed to slow/chilled/loungey for this event, whereas their tracks (Pacific Symphony, Fruit Of Love) are typically paced up in mixes.

Missed Dave Angel, was in the second room.

Many people scoffed at this party at the time, discounting it for being sold out, commercial fodder. Whereas, given where we're at today, with the likes of 25,000 punters from all walks of life rockin' at Field Day each New Year's Day, Colossus paved the way for many big things yeat to come.

So fond memories from me.

And yep, the lighting was amazing. One end of the stadium littered with roboscans (or the equivalent) and the DJ mounted halfway up.

Man, gotta push for this one on DVD.

I went to both, yes it was Capella at the second. Colossus 1 at the State Sports Centre was nothing short of incredible. August 1994. The lighting, the sound, the vibe. Legal venue, but very ravey/old skool. Remember the laser dancers, the male and the female doing battle up on the giant pyramid at the front? I have the video too, it's awesome.

Colussus 2 was funny waay too much space- I chewed open a glowstick and it dripped all over my roadworkers vest - I remember was coming home from that party with my Dad asking me how I managed to stay awake for a 24 hours rave and why I was pumped up and super keen to mow the lawn...

I went to he first one and have to agree with you with most points. I remember all the nicknames afterwards like Col-lost-a-lot, Colostomy and the like. It was pretty impressive, and I love Transformer 2, but it did take the pace down a few pegs. They wore these weird-assed glittery hats.

Hehe... yep, dropping down from 140+BPM to 125BPM (if that) with them coming on (at what must have been midnight?) and with those hats! ;D

Fruit of........ love.

Is the Capella track you are talking about "Tell Me The Way"? It was made into a famous happy hard track. Don't ask me if Capella were any good at Colossus 2 though - me and my friends were kicking up some major dust dancing to Spellbound in the rave tent at the time!

Collossus 2 was my first rave.. Loved it.. Probably missed capella. Didn't some punk band play there too, like earlier in the day? I can't remember what they were called. Skunk Hour or something.

The Skunk are funk not punk... Too bad they're since defunct. :(

Saw 'em play several times in the early 90s and rate 'em highly. Very VERY cool!
