View Full Version : gym on a hangover??
so i went out and got well trashed last night (need to stop getting forked on sunday sessions)
So my day at work today has been a struggle to say the least. I was very optomistic this morning when I left the house - taking my gym gear with me thinking i'll be able to handle a sweaty session after work...
is it a bad idea though? I feel like shit and just want to curl into a ball on the couch, eat cheese one toast and sleep it off - but i know i should be trying to get off my ass and working out..
is it bad for you? to exert yourself when you're feeling like shit?
well im not a gym person. But i like a long walk with small stints of jogging/power walking when im hung over.
Cant see sweating the toxins out of you being a bad thing. Just drink more water and you will be goodly good.
If you feel up to it sweating it out with a run or some type of aerobic activity will make you feel heaps better in a short time. But drink shitloads of water before and after your session as you're already dehydrated.
Doing some light cardio might help you sweat out it out, but you are wasting your time doing weights, you are better off having a rest day and hitting it up again the next day.

I always bring my gear with me on Mondays thinking I will make it down but the truth is I never do. I think its best to have a rest day and give your body a chance to catch up. If youre really determined then do a light cardio session to ease yourself back into things.

I was reading about this on the weekend, apparently sweating the toxins from your body is one of the best things you can go, long as your not so hungover your going to puke all over the treadmill
If your options are to
keep drinking
Eat a meal made of more saturated fat then you would eat in a week
Go to the gym and sweat it out
I'd gym it. I was sooo sooooo hungover this weekend, after downing many champerss, I trained for about 45mins sunday, after the first 10 mins it wasnt so bad, by the time I got home i felt great :thumb:

After a weekend out, don't go to the gym. Your body needs the rest to recover and repair itself.
I never do anything on Mondays, always have a big dinner, plenty of water and hit the gym on Tuesday!

i like a good cardio session when im hungover. lots of water is the key. i find if im hungover and had enough water the night before, usually in the morning i feel ok physically but i cant think very well. a cardio session can help clear the mind, maybe its the endorphins?

Agree!
Dunno if Cranker you were takin the piss, but why would you eat a high saturated fat meal before the gym?? ITs just a waist of time, and it will raise your blood cholesterol through the roof!
U feel like poo coz u have hammered your body with toxins and if you like to boogie, you have done more cardio during the weekend then you would have done in a week at the gym.
When your body needs a break, you will feel it. When your muscles lack calcium and potassium you will find your will cramp up, when ur dehydrated you will become nauseous and thirsty...
If you feel lethargic, theres a reason for it, rectify that reason with sleep and the proper nutrients and you should be fine to start exercising again! :thumb:

to be honest i think it's do-able
as long as you've had enough sleep, you got plenty of water, and you've had a greasy meal (by this i mean oporto's or the like - i always down a fat bondi burger on a hangover, its the best shit), it should make you feel better
weights or cardio, ive done both
just don't go too hard on whatever you do. if it's a somwhat mellow workout you should come out feelin better - i have.
but then again different stuff works for different people so whatever floats your boat really...

i always do weights the day after a big night out drinking
get this gross sweat going on, and i generally feel heaps worse afterwards, to the point where i had to leave once because i was on the verge of throwing up, but its all good

^^ Here here!
i agree with crowy.
going for a morning run for a hangover can feel great ... sometimes it doesnt and you just wanna crawl up in bed. Just take lots of water or gatorade n it'll be dandy tho.
I like the rowing machines they have at the gyms, soo easy n fun and you get to sit down, whilst pretty much working every muscle in your body (and sometimes even the telly is on) ;D

Are you dumb? The reason you get hangovers is because your body is dehydrated from the alcohol and you probably should have eaten McDonalds after your big night (which you didnt).
If you go to the gym, it is going to make you feel worse. You need to relax for a day and go back when you feel better.
the gym is the best way to get over a hangover imo, the earlier in the day you get there the better.
My body says to take a rest and go slow. Then i'll have to do extra hard on weights the next day.

why the hell not?
just make sure you have a cup of coffee early in the morning to block any further absorption of alcohol into your system and aid metabolization..
then spend an hour on the treddy and you'll be looking and feeling like a million bucks again..

a sort of similar question i have is this:
Say if im to workout on friday and then go out hard drinking friday nite was there much point in working out? Would it be better to just skip that workout. What about if i was to go out friday and sat nite both heavy drinking.
I know drinking slows muscle building but does it have a negative affect?
theres always a point to working out...do heaps of cardio on a hangover and you'll feel heaps better

so your saying if i go to the gym then that nite get no sleep and drop or something its still benificial? I must note that im not trying to loose weight im trying to bulk.
I did a spin class last Fri after a cheeky Thurs night bender and felt really ill for about half an hour afterwards but after that I felt a fair bit better and less guilty about my concumption the night before

can anyone help answer my question just up a bit?
Im very curious too know.
I amazing when you wake up feeling like shit. Bring yourself to get in that gym asap, have a light light light breakfast (something that your body can handle at that time) and do a small/easy weights session. I find that a small exursion and a bit of sweat when your well hung is the best quer!
