I just received an EP from Germany which I've been waiting for for months only to find that it has a major kink in it. It's so bad that when the needle runs over the area it skips

Is there any tried and proven way of straightening the vinyl without causing damage to it.

Ta :-D

I've done this once and it worked a treat....
Place the vinyl between two pieces of glass and put that in the sun for an hour or so, just check it regular so the vinyl doesnt actually melt, you just want it to heat up, then take it out of the sun and let it cool between the two pieces of glass.
After cooling, you should have yourself one straight piece of plastic :)

i tried that once for 30 mins, and the grooves in the vinyl turned to shit. an hour would be far too long - i'd say try it in 10 minute increments.

This happened to mate of mine. The vinyl was so warped!
He sent it back and they sent him a new one!
It was all good!

X -Facta,

When I've waited three months for it to come via 'snail mail', I can't be fucked waiting another six.

I stupidly put it in the freezer overnight, I'm sure I read that somewhere, only to find that for the love of god, it's worse.

Cut!!! That's an understatement!

You try to save yourself a few bucks by buying (and supporting) from the label direct and this is what you get...you can't win :meh:

Definately the glass method is best. Although an hour is way too long. The best way is to keep checking it, or even just sit there and watch it. It takes just seconds for a vinyl to heat up in the sun, and the grooves can melt altogether if you're not careful. You need something with constant pressure all over the record. Once you take it out of the sun, leave some phone books or something on top of it for a day or so. After that your vinyl should be ready to play.
