SUPERFISH!: - The UK Hard Dance Party Hits NZ...

Back in 1995 Captain Tinrib, D.F.Q, Steve Thomas, Dave Randall, RR Fierce & Karim decided they needed a place to party, at an event with music that they produce, and came up with their own club nite, ‘Fish!’ All these DJs and Recording Artists played different intensities of Hard NRG back then, they wanted a night that built up and up all the way through. DJ lineup placement was the secret of this success. Mellower, funky grooves while everyone meets on arrival, through a more trancey affair into the depths of Hard NRG, slightly grooved, Techno to a huge build of Hard NRG anthem tracks at the core of the night, leaving Karim the honours of sewing it all up with his relentless ‘X Rated’ pounding Hard NRG.
It all began at the Soundshaft, London, and the FISH!, known as Elfish! on the flyers, embarked on a story of his own and learnt to swim, surf, and then fly.... He flew threw Crash night Club on his way to the mighty Fridge Club. London. Superfish was born!
Through the club nite’s fishy voyage, the likes of Simon Eve, Max Alien Trax, JP (Amsterdam), Scott Alert (Australia), Pete Wardman, Superfast Oz of OD404, Rubec, Les Oberon, Steve Hill, Max & Amino Live and the legendary Weirdo, joined up on deck and finished off the complete Superfish! resident DJ lineup. Through the course of the Superfish! history these DJs have become some of the world’s best mainline DJs on the scene.
The hugely successful UK club nite Superfish! has sailed to the shores of Christchurch, New Zealand. The Pioneers of the Hard Dance Scene, Captain Tinrib & Karim with their labels, the mighty, Tinrib Recordings, Dirty House Grooves, Tuff Trax, Unfknblvbl & the notorious, Do Not Bend Recordings, give you the very best of 11 years in swashbuckling Hard NRG. Come celebrate our 10th year of Superfish! with another nite of madness to remember.

The Mansion nightclub will be converted into a Superfish! extravaganza, with all 20 of the Superfish! UV Canvas banners. A stage will be created at the back of Mansion by the DJ Box where the Captain will perform live along with other interesting stage antics, visually stunned by 2 Lasers, 2 x Screen Projectors with a VJ firing out Fishy frolics across the dancefloor's bows.

Big Thanks:
Many thanks to all of you who have supported the Superfish! night over the years, sorry to all you UK Superfishies with such short notice on this event, booking a flight to New Zealand may be tricky in such a short space of time!!!! Captain Tinrib:

http://www.captaintinrib.com/SkipperSword.jpg (http://www.captaintinrib.com)

Since before hard house was hard house, and we all called it 'hardbag', there have been a few names synonymous with this harder, energetic style of dance music. Undoubtedly one of them is Captain Tinrib - a true hard house powerhouse, with a penchant for all things nautical, and a very interesting dress sense (Hawaiian shirts, skiing goggles and protective red helmet?!). He released his first track way back in 1991 ('Nuclear Powered E.P.' under the Morphasis guise), and it was in 1995 that he set up his now legendary Hard NRG imprint Tinrib Recordings. At that time he went under the name of D.R. Base, and the first release on Tinrib had a collaboration with French producer called Karim Lamouri on one side called 'Barracuda', and the skipper’s 'Funky 303' on the other. Little did he know that it would grow into one of the most respected and popular labels in hard house history.

Over the next 7 years, the label amassed momentum with dozens of all-time classics in 60 releases on vinyl & 13 CD albums. Captain Tinrib & RR Fierce's recently remixed 'Street Tab' (7 years on and the original still stands the test of time), incredibly talented producer Weirdo with amazing hard trancers such as 'Curva Peligrosa,' ‘Photic Zone’ and 'I Know A Plaice', and Captain Tinrib's cheeky 'Blue Oyster,' ‘Manta’ and ‘2001’ amongst others. The label catered for the tough, banging sounds of Hard Dance, with the occasional slices of highly uplifting hard trance. Sister label Dirty House Grooves was set up to provide the market with slower, funkier material, somewhere between funky house and hard house (in an Untidy Dubs sort of vein). Six volumes of the 'Fish Tales' compilation series were released on CD to showcase the label's sound, and Weirdo produced two excellent artist albums for the label to critical acclaim.

Tinrib is a name that has well and truly stamped its mark upon the hard dance scene … there isn’t a hard dance enthusiast alive that hasn’t heard of the genre defining Tinrib label or witnessed the Captain’s live experience. For seven spellbinding years from 1995 through 2002 Tinrib Recordings pumped out the hard stuff to the ever-hungrier masses.

The Skipper took a much deserved 2 year break from his Fishy Tales... and when he did come back, I think most people would agree it was with a bang. He produced the odd tune and remix (including a VC remix for Max - The Alien Thing’s, ‘Beaver Express’) prior to signing up with Paul Glazby’s infamous Vicious Circle label to knock out three of the best, it was perhaps these same three tunes, ‘The Great Gatsby’, ‘Acid Gate Scandal’ with Max Alien Whore and ‘Found What We’re Looking For’, with Dynamic Intervention that really said, ‘here I am, I’m back!’

A more recent offering to the hard dance world is the Captain Tinrib/Sol Ray collaboration of ‘Attack Of The 50ft DJ’ on Tidy Trax, which has been doing some serious dancefloor damage with it’s twisted synths and phat bass-lines… And if you liked this tune, then we can let slip that 3 mixes of the follow-up, ‘Amsterdamage’ (also a Tinrib/Sol Ray collaboration) are set for imminent release.

The Captain set off on his perilous voyage, over the seven seas from the UK, and landed on the beaches of Christchurch. He’s currently building his new ‘Shipyard’ (Sound Studio,) here on the soils of New Zealand. Pounding grooves have come to town. Captain Cook would be proud!!

The Live Show:

The last 10 years have seen a huge demand for Captain Tinrib to tour and perform his Live Hard Dance devastation across the globe. He plays as live as is possible for Hard Dance Music and each performance is unique. 75% is new material he’s written and 25% tried and tested, ‘Best of Tinrib’ classics.
He currently uses Ableton Live 5 on a Powerbook G4. He uses a MIDI keyboard for Live Synth Control with his left hand, along with a Kenton MIDI controller in his right, with 16 channels of different loops & 4 different synths firing thru – a bit like having 16 record decks but with controllable ‘Tinrib Sound’ live synths on demand! Different every time. All our worthy old sea dog has to do is stay together enough to be able to control it all! A true master at the helm!
The best way to hear this now, before the Superfish! party, is on his latest album, 'Captain Tinrib Live In San Francisco.'

DJ Karim:

http://www.captaintinrib.com/Karim.jpg (http://www.dj-karim.com)

Love him or hate him, Karim is an underground legend. Once heard never forgotten. A true pioneer of today's hard dance scene who for over a decade has been relentless in promoting the music he so passionately believes in. Uncompromising and cutting edge, this guy is right out there pushing the boundaries of peak hour mayhem.
With a cult-like following of amassed hardcore support Karim is a larger than life character with an often misplaced aura of arrogance. A French native of Moroccan origin, for the past 15 years Karim has made London and it's indigenous clubbing culture his adopted lifestyle.
A true clubber at heart this guy was born to perform and for the last decade has done just that. Having rocked dance floors the world over, Karim continues to garner the industry respect he so rightly deserves.
With his trademark kick drums and relentless slew of ‘knock-on-the-door’ beats, marching rhythms funky grooves and familiar riff kicks, he has become a house hold name with hard dance fraternity. Every set he plays is unique and ‘Karimified’, as in his own inimitable style he'll produce, remix and reedit new tunes for every gig, often solely for club use and never to see the light of day.
Like all leading DJ's he has the capacity to move and stimulate the crowd and his work as a producer is as formidable. As a gifted and accomplished remixer/producer he has amassed over 200 productions and a discography many a fan would die for; with seminal releases such as ‘Don't Fuck With Me’, ‘Cheap Rent’, ‘No Women Allowed’, ‘Clean and Heavy’, ‘Begonia’, ‘WC2’, ‘You Have Control’ and ‘Hear We Go’ to name but a few. Although appearing on many of the most respected labels the majority of his releases are channelled through his own distinguished label (Do Not Bend recordings, Tuff Tracks and Unfknblvbl), which he somehow finds the time to manage and run successfully. A true independent.
So with Karim continuing to inspire future generations of hardened clubbers with his distinctive and relentless style (Pure Filth!), technical ability and the way he can just pull out the right tune at the right moment, it's clear to see why he has built himself a formidable and revered reputation as one of today's best hard energy DJs and producers.
