Hey guys

If anyone missed out on the NRL Fantasy or Dream Team competition and still wishes to join, some places have become available in the original league.

Due to someone having a fucking sook that one of his mates couldnt get in, some of the league participants have gone over to their own league leaving space here.

To join up, please go to www.sportal.com.au (http://www.sportal.com.au) and follow the links to NRL Dream Teams.

The competition number is 558346, so join up and pick your players.

If the league is not full by 5.30pm today, then it will be merged with another comp that does not have 12 players.

Come along and set up a team. It involves buying a squad and you can trade players etc through the season.

Good luck.

Sam

It wasn't the comp that most ITM'ers, including yourself joined.

It was the original comp that I shouldnt have made public.

So the one you are in is unaffected.

It's not an ITM person.

But if you know anyone who wants to join up, let them know the details of this comp and advise that there are open spaces.

Cheers, Rich

Jaime, the Milky Crate Kid is joining as we speak.

So if you fancy giving it to him, get in quick with a team

I reckon SBW was a bargain, provided he stays on the field he's the sort of forward that will score tries. As for Price I went for him as he plays close to the full 80 so there's more chance he'll get over ther line occaisionally than props who only play 50-60 min.
Although I guess I should really have just picked six hookers!!

Hey Dave.

SBW is out for the first 6 rounds at least. No wonder he's so cheap.

I cant believe you fucking picked Gasnier and Fatty-Wearer in the same team.

I hope I'm not picked against you round 1.

Yeah I didn't have time to actually check which of my picks were playing in round one so I dipped out on the SBW pick, but the Fatz/Gaz double more than makes up for it. Gasnier's a cert though and as Gus Gould said, Whatuira's a lucky charm....
SBW wqas still a good bargain buy I reckon, I've got Menzies and Hindmarsh to cover until he's back, and the season's pretty long....
Spewing about marshall getting his eye socket fractured though, that's a couple of hundred grand down for no return!!

Benji will retain much of his value, so you can opt to trade him out of the side for 8 to 10 weeks, depending on how long the injury is. Then buy him back at a hopefully cheaper price in the future.

Mind you, the prices don't always work that way, so you coould lose on the deal.

I'm having the same thoughts myself

Lol well I did one thing right in investing heavily on the the Cowboys, I had Bowen (captain) Sing and Thurston in my side so in total I think I racked up at least 56 points this round in total. Pity I had El Masri as kicker insterad of Thurston though!

I had fucking Broncos in my side

Had Bowen, but he wasn't a captain. Had Ty Williams as Captain and he was about the only Cowboy who didnt score

Fucking bollix.

Going to have to do some trading and restructure my side over the coming 3-4 weeks.

But from here on in, there's massive restrictions on the number of trades and players that havent performed drop in value. Thats why it's so important to get it right from the off.

Lol so did I, plus I had a couple of guys in my side who didn't actually play (only entered on friday and didn't have time to check the lineups). Three of my side got hat-tricks though and my captain got a try as well so I reckon I might've got away with it this week!

Its a filthy fucking comp sometimes.

Last year I lost 5 games in a row by a few points, and each of the previous weeks I had outscored the people I was playing against.

It's so fucking frustrating, yet so addictive.

I picked Leon Bott, checked nrl which said he was playing, then he was omitted from the side, and I cant find out if he's playing next week. Same with another player I had. Team listing on Thursday had him playing and he didn't.

It's fucking painful.

Lambretta

Never mind, still got plenty from the tries, and the Cowboys outside backs are still raking in the four pointers for me. I pissed myself when you got the draw.

Both yourself and Dave, your opponent, were pretty confident of getting the win, so a draw was a fair result.

You rarely see draws, and you probably wont see another one all season.

I was pretty happy that my team got up, even though I only scored 52 points. Luckily for me, my opponent only managed 49.

Starting to make up for last season where I kept scoring highly and losing against people who during all the other rounds had scored less than me. I gave me the absolute shits I can tell ya.

Yep, and keep an eye on the injured list too, I've used up two trades so far getyting rid of long-term injured players (Farah and Marshall). I'll trade them back in again when they return if they're in good enough form. Probably going to have to trade Vagana out too as it looks like he's fucked for a while.

But bear in mind that you only have a limited number of trades for the season.

You get 4 points for a try scored and two points for goals kicked if the person kicking them is nominated as your kicker.

You get an additional 2 points for each player in a winning side.

Whats getting me is that the values of the players dont seem to be changing. This is making it much easier to sell players who arent performing this season that did well last year. I hope they rectify this soon as it makes it so much harder to run a team if the in form players become expensive to buy.

points system is faaar to basic..need to have different points ratings for certain positions. like forwards for example they should score points for meters gained, not tries they've scored.

front rowers hardly score tries, so you have to pick hookers. The scoring system needs a rework

I have Robbie Farrah in the 2nd row, who is languishing in the reserves as he is injured and I am trying to decide if I should trade him.

Then I have Lockyer at 5/8th with one side and I am wondering if I should trade him out.

If your team is full of Dragons, Cowboys and Broncos, you have to decide wether to trade or bite the bullet in the arse and take a couple of losses like some NRL clubs do at this time of year.

Also, if your team has NRL stars who play Origin but who dont have the bye, you have to pray like shit that they dont get injured during State of Origin.

I had Matt Peitersen and Ashley Graham in my sides and they haven't been playing, so I replaced them with Matt Cooper (now injured) Wes Naiquama (injured), so I replaced them with a Newcastle player (now suspended) and Timana Tahu (now injured)

In the meantime, the original players I traded out are now fucking well back in the Parra side.

Add to that there's also an injury scare over Grothe and I'm struggling to field a side at all.

Fuck this fucking game.

In the other competition MadMike's "slam it down" boys made it three from three to lead the competition at this early stage.

My Slaughtered Lambs are following up in 2nd spot with 2 from 3 and SpaceMonkey suffered his first defeat of the season losing narrowly in a high scoring affair to my old boss's Bra Boys. The Milky Crate Kids Yiddish Rabbi's got their second successive win. In the battle of the Dirty Boys, the Dirty Dozen outwitted Team Dirty in a thriller.

League standings

Slams 6
Lambs 4
Hunters 4
Royals 4
Rabbi's 4
Dirty Dozen 4
Sharks 4
Kick 2
Bra Boys 2
Vagrants 2
Dirty 0
All yours 0

Sharks 44 def All yours 34
Slams 60 def Royals 40
Dozens 76 der Dirty 73
Rabbi's 73 def Vagrants 44
Bra Boys 68 def Hunters 64

Next week sees

Lamb v Rabbis
Sharks v Kick
Slams v Bras
Dozens v Royals
All yours v Vagrants
Dirty v Hunters

On current form there should be wins for Rabbi's, Sharks, Bras, Dozens, Vagrants & Dirty.

So I've been looking at how this comp works, and I'm of the opinion that its so flawed.

There are no points for offloads, tackles, line breaks, or hitups. :( A fantasy league should take these things into consideration. It shouldn't just be about who scores tries and a kicker.

As it stands, and I think I've got this right... You want try scorers in EVERY position on the field (realism? who cares if they suck at defence, this comp is about scoring tries!), and the two best kickers. (one backup for byes/injury). You make the highest try scorer your captain, and the best kicker your kicker (sometimes they are one and the same, but unlikely in the long run). The only variables are if you are tossing up between which player to field, you see which one is more likely to be in a winning team for the 2-point bonus.

With full access to NRL stats this game could be so much better. I'd develop my own comp and it would ROCK. Somebody buy me a subscription to http://www.nrlstats.com/

Am I missing something here?

I agree. The biggest fuck-up in my opinion is that it classes props and hookers together as "front rowers" whereas most hookers in league actually play more like a half. So most props become pretty much worthless as they don't tend to score too many tries, you can just stack your front row with 3 hookers provided you can afford them. You can also strack your bench with wingers and centres as they score the most tries and completely ignore the forwards.

Well round 4 is over and there have been a few tight games this round, due to the absence of your usual suspects scoring a quite a few forwards or relative unknowns crossing the white chalk for 4 pointers.

In the "Anasta's no Freddy" league the following results occurred....

Lambs 34 def Rabbis 20
Sharks 28 def Kick 24
Bras 32 def Slams 30
Dozens 40 def Royals 18
Vagrants 52 def Yours 16 (highest & lowest scores in the league
Dirty 42 def Hunters 40

The largest margin was 36 points and 3 games were decided by 4 points or less.

The league standings are as follows

Lambs 6 pts
Slams 6 pts
Dozens 6 pts
Sharks 6pts
Hunters 4 pts
Royals 4 pts
Rabbis 4 pts
Vagrants 4 pts
Bras 4 pts
Kick 2 pts
Dirty 2 pts
Yours 0 pts (only team winless)

Next weeks games sees the Lambs tangling with the Bras, the Sharks being Hunted, the Slams being preached to by the Rabbis, a dozen vagrants having a swedge, Yours Royals, and Kick putting the boot into Dirty.

On current form we should see positive results for Lambs, Hunters, Slams, Vagrants, Royals & Dirty. We shall see......

Cracks 40 def Sloggers 32
5483's 44 def Skew 18
The Jams 20 def Brick 12 (finally a win for Sam)
Screws 36 def Doyens 22

The league standings are as follows:-

Randoms 8 pts
5483's 6 pts
Cracks 6 pts
Valders 6 pts
Randoms 4 pts
Brick 4 pts
Doyens 4 pts
Tony Greig 3 pts
Screws 2 pts

Next weeks games feature clashes between my Blasters & the Sandy Cracks, Tony Greig and the Doyens, The Sloggers & Randoms, 5483's & Jams, Brick and Skew plus Valders vs Screws.

Well, with the Andrew Johns saga stretching out like a heretic on a rack in 14th Century Europe, the main question for the Dream Team players is "should I include Johns or not".

It's a tough one and I have no advice.

I have him in one of my teams and I have been deliberating all week if I should play him or not.

The other side of the coin is "if Johns doesn't play, do I pick other Newcastle players" because if Johns doesnt play, the odds of those players scoring points is diminished greatly.

It's a hard one.

In double boost for the Knights, backrower Clint Newton is also in line to make his comeback from a back injury against the Dragons.

Newton fractured two bones in his back in the round one win over Parramatta, but will travel with the team to Wollongong.

The bustling second rower was not named earlier this week by Knights coach Michael Hagan, but is expected to come into the side with one of Adam Woolnough, Daniel Tolar, Riley Brown or Todd Lowrie to drop off the bench.

..................................................

I laughed at Clint Newton returning being a "boost" for the Knights, but when I saw who he would be replacing, the smile was wiped from my face.

mulled over offloading menzies but decided against it, seeing as i had slater and ty williams doing fuck all. steve menzies has COST me -1 point this season. this staggering productivity has of course, been met with a similarly abysmal drop in player value - 66k so far. fucking bum.

Took Carmount out to make room as he has not done much for a few weeks. Then pops up and scores 2 tries on me. Bloody El Masri better have a good day against the warriors, see how many Thurston got!

Thankfully I had Johns in reserves rather than a complete rule out.

Lambretta
09-Apr-06, 01:08pm
Yeah, I followd this logic and threw Casey Macguire in as he was languising in my reserves and to be honest he can fuck off back there.

Making Lockyer captain meant I got double points for his try. Just wished I had a double try scrorer as Captain.

So far my slaughtered lambs team has scored 8 tries (if I'm counting Lockyer's try as two) and my Blava Blasters team has scored 5 tries and kicked 6 goals, so I am travelling ok.

Results for the weird mob league are as follows:-

Cracks 67 def Blasters 56
Tony Greig 74 def Doyens 72
Sloggers 68 def Randoms 64
5483's 63 def The Jams 47
Skew 78 def Brick 56
Screw 80 def Valders 62

Some high scoring games there with Tony Greig reversing his bad luck with a hard fought victory and Skew getting a win which lifts him off the bottom of the ladder.

5483's, Cracks & Blasters all on 8 points.
Valders on 6 points
Tony Greig on 5 points
Doyens, Randoms, Screws, Brick & Sloggers all on 4 points
Skew on 3 poitns
Jams on 2 points

So everyone has at least one win and therefore proof that they can win games if things go their way.

Gutted about losing to the Cracks and Christian isnt going to let me forget it next time we do a Super Saturday drinking session.

Tony Greig (Dave in Bratislava) has him next week, so I am counting on him to exact revenge which he should do if this weeks form is anything to go by.

Next weeks winners on current form, should be... Doyens, Tony Greig, Sloggers (sorry Sam), Randoms, Corkscrews and Skew.

Skew has featuerd a couple of times in the should wins list but has only got one win. Will next week be two out of two???

Headhunters 45 def Sharks 38
Rabbitigers 88 def Slams 58
Dozens 58 def Vagrants 47
Royals 52 def All Yours 36
Dirty 57 def Kick 52

Lambs and Dozens lead on 8 points
Hunters, Rabbis, Royals, Slams & Sharks all on 6 points
Vagrants, Dirty and Bras on 4 points
Kick on 2 points
All Yours 0 points (bit like Luxembourg in the Eurovision song contest)

Next week sees the Lambs and the Hunters go head to head, the Sharks and the Bras, the Slams and the Vagrants, The Dozens and the Rabbi's, All yours and Dirty and lastly Kick take on the Royals.

11-Apr-06, 03:05pm
I thought Fitzgibbon was going to be alright this weekend?

Anyway, my major concern is with Gasnier.

With him playing five eighth he's pretty ineffective as a try scoring option.

I am thinking of offloading him before his value drops, but if Matt Head comes back soon he will go to half and Barrett will back where he belongs at pivot pushing Gasnier back into the Centres where he's most damaging.

Decisions, decisions.

what was the initial prognosis for matt head?Well, he played in lower grades last weekend and came through unscathed.

He was initially going to stay in the reserves for 3 or 4 games to get back to full fitness, but they may bring him back earlier than planned because they are lacking in the halves.

If he's not back this weekend, watch out the following round cos the Dragons might be giving someone Head..... which is why it might be worth holding onto Gasnier.

I will be watching that one closely.

With one game left to go this weekend, by Blava Blasters have scored 9 tries and my Slaughtered Lambs have scored 7.

However I have heavy involvement in the Bulldogs v Souths game, so hopefully I can get some more tries on the board.

My main let down this round is that most of my players have been on the losing side, so if they didnt score a try they got blot.

Knights, Sharks, Eagles, Warriors and Roosters all featured in my sides leaving me with just 4 winning players on each team. Mind you, one of my sides has 4 Bulldogs in it, so that could go up to 8 winners.

I think I need a better balance of players in there.

Well another great round of games that certainly threw alot of surprises. One of teams had Tim Smith as halfback and Kimmorley as back up, so 0 points there :meh:

Here's the results from "Anasta's no Freddy" league

Hunters 64 def Lambs 55
Bras 50 def Sharks 46
Vagrants 70 def Slams 46
Dozens 58 def Rabbis 40
Dirty 66 def Yours 12
Royals 40 def Kick 22

League standings are as follows (and they're bloody close with 9 teams within 2 points of 2nd place)

Dozens 10 pts
Lambs 8 pts
Hunters 8 pts
Royals 8pts
Dirty 6 pts
Rabbis 6 pts
Vagrants 6 pts
Slams 6 pts
Bras 6 pts
Sharks 6 pts
Kick 2pts
Yours 0 pts

Next weeks games sees

Kick v Rabbis, Sharks v Vagrants, Slams v Dirty, Dozen v Hunters, Yours v Lambs, Bras v Royals.

Will Yours get a win (I hope not they're playing my Lambs)? Who will emerge from the pack and who will fall from the pace? With so many teams on the same points playing each other, next weeks results could see alot of movers.

For the weird mob league things are just as close, but this time at the bottom of the table with 5 teams all on 2 wins.

Sam got his second win of the campaign as did Skew with the Randoms and the Blasters on top with 5 wins apiece.

The results

Blasters 58 def Doyens 54 (such a close game)
Tony Greig 48 def Cracks 46 (two best mates playing each other)
Jams 56 def Sloggers 36
5483's 46 def Randoms 40
Screws 32 def Brick 28
Skew 45 def Valders 40

5483 10 pts
Blasters 10 pts
Cracks 8 pts
Greigs 7 pts
Screws 6 pts
Valders 6 pts
Skew 5 pts
Doyens 4 pts
Randoms 4 pts
Brick 4 pts
Sloggers 4 pts
Jams 4 pts

Next weeks games, Valders v Randoms, Greig v Jams, Sloggers v Screws, 5483's v Doyens, Brick v Blasters, Cracks v Skew.

Some interesting match ups there. Should be good :)

Well the sportal site finally updated and my fears of scoring next to nothing were realised.

In the weird mob league my Blava Blasters, who were at one time 5 wins and 0 losses have now crashed to 2 defeats in a row.

The results are as follows

Randoms 36 def Valders 34
Greigs 48 def Jams 38
Sloggers 36 def Screws 24
5483's 56 def Doyens 32
Brick 60 def Blasters 34
Cracks 54 def Skew 22

My decision to have Cowboys and Knights in the team really screwed me over as no tries were scored.

The table standings are as follows:-

5483's 12 points
Cracks 10 points
Blasters 10 points
Greig 9 points
Brick 6 points
Random 6 points
Valders 6 points
Screws 6 points
Sloggers 6 points
Skew 5 points
Doyens 4 points
Jams 4 points

There is definately two groups in this league with the top 4 out on their own and the next 5 all grouped on the same points. But recent results show that the pack is closing and people are starting to get the hang of how things work.

26-Apr-06, 11:37pm
In the Anasta's no Freddy comp, my Slaughtered Lambs fared a little better, but they were playing the last ranked team and next weeks opponents outscored me by some margin so things are definately looking down (well for me anyway)

Results

Rabbi's 22 def Kick 20
Vagrants 46 def Sharks 34
Dirty 46 def Slams 30
Dozens 60 def Hunters 40
Lambs 34 def Yours 22
Royals 36 def Bra 34

Some close games and tough on Hunters to score 4th highest of the round and still lose.

Standings:

Dozens 12 points
Lambs 10 points
Royals 10 points
Dirty 8 points
Hunters 8 points
Rabbis 8 points
Vagrants 8 points
Slams 6 points
Bra 6 points
Sharks 6 points
Kick 2 points
Yours 0 points

Dozens are out on top with the next 6 teams all with a chance of going into first or second place or falling as far as low as fourth to ninth spots next week depending on results. So overall, a really tight league with the bottom two teams the only ones really off the pace at this stage.

I expect Dozens to extend, Lambs and Royals to drop and Dirty and Hunters to rise again next week. But you never know what will happen.

A quick check and the maximum try scorers you could have had, matches mine exactly, it will depend if you picked them all.

We both had Matt Gidley sin binned (if you picked him) so no advantage there, but kickers could be in your favour. I had Thurston with 3 goals and you possibly had El Mazri ??? who scored 5.

So the result will come down to how many players you had on your team that were on the winning sides and I had 11 out of 17.

Do a quick calc on your score, but I reckon mine is 37.

If you didnt pick Matt Gidley you definately won this round.

This league is turning into an absolute league of death. There are 6 teams all on the same number of points and who week on week are capable of beating the opposition. Everyone seems to be trading well and no one is getting flogged out of sight. There are no easy games here as I found out by losing to the bottom team.

Skew, Brick and Greig are on the rise and Blasters and Valders are slipping up at the moment. Next week doesnt get any easier as my Blasters have to take on the second placed team. Pity I didnt play the 5483's this week as I would have actually won a game :(

If Doyens, Brick and Skew keep this form up they'll be in the top 4 soon enough.

Rabbis 10 points
Dirty 8 points
Vagrants 8 points
Bras 8 points
Slams 6 points
Sharks 6 points
Kick 4 points
Yours 0 points

A good solid win for my Slaughtered Lambs this week puts me joint top of the league with the Royals, while the Dozens are undone by the Bras to lose the outright lead. But a joint lead is still the lead. Jaimes Rabbi's continue their rise up the table and are now on the verge of joining the outright leaders, as are Dave's Headhunters.

Kick won by beating All Yours, who appear to have thrown in the towel some weeks ago and aren't updating their team. Mikes Slams are slipping down the table and are in danger of losing touch with the finals series. Next week away to the Sharks is a massive 4 pointer for both clubs. They both need to put some good runs together to maintain touch with the leading two groups.

An interesting league indeed :)
