The Commonwealth Games..

Does nobody else realise that it is just the
Olympics, minus the good teams? SUCCCCH an over-rated event.

Bah that's my ramble, sorry for those keen commonwealth games fans.

I agree that the Commonwealth Games are over-rated.

I heard someone equating the Commwealth Games to a school sports day. haha

The 'Fun and Games' section of the BBC website said,
"The whole thing feels like a two-week PE lesson to me, you know all the sports you were forced to play at school in one painful sitting.
...The Scots have done well - good on 'em - but it seems to me like Australia 1-2-3 in every other event. It's like the games teacher organising a school sports day and then entering himself in every event and winning it. "

i don't think it's over-rated. The athletes and most commentators realise it'snot world class in most events........but at the end of the day, athletes look to perform personal bests, not just win medals or come first. There are quite a few world record holders competing so it couldn't be that bad.

if there are lots of PB's then its good practice for commonwealth athletes under these conditions to prepare themselves for their next meet against amaricans and germans and china, etc.
but it should be seen as just that, practice. there is no need to waste money of flying trams. best idea i heard was spend the 50 million that the opening ceremony cost, and building training facilities in the poor commonwealth countries to try and make them cmpetitive, and also to pay the airfares for tons of athletes from poorer countries that couldnt even come to the games for the practice because they have no money.

australia did pay for the airfare of competing athletes, we also did this for the sydney olympics. it's one of the reasons we hosted both. we realised that we were considered "far away" in terms of distance relative to europe, africa etc and so addressed that...

we also bought the kenyan road cyclists real racing bikes and uniforms when they turned up with mountain bikes.
