I started on some belt driven american dj's they are fine for beat mixin but scratchin wid'em is not a good idea!

try lightsounds if you can spare the xtra $$ get the direct drives!
american dj also do a simple mixer with treble & bass controls not great for filtering but xcelent sound quality & cheap

but 4 me 1200's+djm500

or try the trading post

good luck

belt driven amDJs rock for fuckin around! disconnect the belts so they free spin & get 2 decks spinning - flick em forwards & backwards & play with crossfaders & knobs & u have yourself some trippy sounds :)

i reckon you should start with decks. I got 2 old decks for 200$ and their great to fool around with. I even did 3 events on them.

If you're prepared to sepnd 2 grand then you can get 2 techs with a mixer from most places.

mixer will be pretty average... but that's not the end of the world.

If you want to get lesser decks... get dircet drives... and pick em up 2nd hand. The resale value of the lesser decks 2nd hand isn't very good. So you may pay $1000 for a couple of american dj's direct drives... and $500 for the same decks 2 years old.

Or get 2nd hand techs... should be around $700 each depending on age.

No offence to djbc, but if you are buying secondhand, you'd want to to try the decks out before you buy them. Unless you are very trustworthy (naive).;)

Thats what i reckon too. I wouldn't even trust my mother with that much money! Where is the best place to get Technics 1200 or 1210 cheap?? Preferably near the gold coast? What setups do you guys recommend preferably with technics decks for around 2 large?

BIG YUP I totally agree:D I wondered about location(s) after I posted.8-)
If you can't find any decent 2nd hand where you are then I'd go along with bobdobalina's

Sorry about all the questions, but is 2x 1200's and a Behringer VMX100 mixer a good deal for $2200? ? does anyone now how much the mixer is in australia? cheers

djbc
15-May-02, 08:08pm
depends dude... with the dex... on whether they're like way old or not or if they've been totally trashed at gigs or just trashed a bit at home.& if they've got decent headshell/cartridge/ covers etc. (but you can get for $900 new if you try hard enough, so that should give you some idea)

As for the behringer... dunno what they're dj mixers are like, didn't know they made 'em. I know they do some pretty decent mixing desks at good prices(copies of the MACKIE range mostly).
Never too many questions eh?? It's your hard earned money and you want your gear to be good and to last - so you go right ahead and question everything!!!! trust nobody :p :) XD ;D :-D the gear for you is out there!!

NEW eh?! I'd say that's pretty good if the mixer is cool. sounds good to me!

bobdobilina
16-May-02, 09:24am
it's an alright deal... are they mk3's or mk2's. If they're mk3's that's a good deal... if they're mk2's it's probably $100 too much.

But also depends on the cartridges and slipmatts.

behringer mixers are good budget mixers... i think that is one of the new models... go to their website and have a look.

djbc
16-May-02, 12:32pm
yeah, ture bobdob.... so if they're mk2 make 'em toss in a pair of senheiser headphones!! 8-) XD

go swing a deal!!

pyroboy
16-May-02, 10:17pm
yeah there mk2, i already asked em to throw in some headphones and they said no X( they would have to be jewish???
but otherwise is it an alright deal?

bobdobilina

http://www.behringer.com/02_products/prodindex.cfm?id=VMX100&lang=eng

to see the mixer... they've improved on their last one, it's basically a budget version of the Pioneer DJM300. For the money it looks very good.

The deal is alright... you could just do better in sydney ($2000).

Get them to make it the m3's and take it (or drop the price by $100).

If you don't have many options though... it's an alright deal, just not the best.

pyroboy
17-May-02, 04:30pm
I used my persuasive techniques (threatening to kill them) and i got them to drop it to $2100 and throw in some headphones( i dont know what sort yet) so thats a bit better eh?

djbc
17-May-02, 06:07pm
sounds good enough... just don't let 'em flog you Fostex h'phones... they're crap - in my humble opinion;)

Sony or Senheiser are prob the best around but listen to them in the store, preferably through one of the desks you're buying & pick the ones you like the sound of... that's really the most important thing

have fun eh?!!?!
:tripping: :p :-D
