I refer back to http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html all the time, it's not the prettiest of sites and they could have given the model a chest wax  but it's just so useful when you're looking for weights ideas and wanting to correct your technique.

For the girls I also like http://www.shape.com/getfit/ for ideas plus the hottest fitness models

I know some itmers read up on pubmed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?DB=pubmed) all the time, but the articles are definitely for the scientists among us.

Where else on the net do you go for fitness advice? (Except here of course :p )

The couple that runs the website used to train at my old gym (Newtown). They both compete professionally & have won titles.

What's great about the site is that the moderators (who are know their shit) promptly respond to your questions.

This is more for people who only know the most rudimentary fitness and health stuff, but two websites I use are

www.fitday.com – it is a general health website which allows you to monitor how many calories you are consuming and how many you are burning through exercise. You enter your food and exercise daily. I found it helpful in that it gave me a good idea of how much I SHOULD be eating. I used to eat healthy food, but far too much of it.

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml - for couch potatoes, here is the ‘couch to 5 km’ running plan. I'm going to start this this week. A lot of girls on the vogue forum have been following it and have gotten good results. :)

Word on the street is, Marzy downloaded the whole of www.pubmed.com (http://www.pubmed.com/) into his brain!

The problem with PubMed is that many people, who don't really understand the science, epidemiology and biostatistics properly, misinterpret articles they read. I'm all for better informing the public but only if the information they read can be understood properly.

Coolrunning is a great website.

The other problem is that unless you know what is and isn't a decent journal or you have access to the fulltext you can't always tell whether the data (and hence interpretation of results) are reliable and valid.

I sometimes review papers for publication and seriously there is some absolute shite quality research out there!!

While I'm here I thought I might just chuck in a little review of another kind... currently listening to an Alphatown Collective (Meem/Deepchild/Funkenbubble) compilation and yar its pretty phat yo!

Techno is good whilst doing boring data entry :tripping:

Exactly. Although, the peer-review process should filter out the absolute rubbish, but it doesn't guarantee some crap still gets published in less prestigious/more rigouress journals.

And likewise, I've reviewed some terrible articles in my time.

Here is a page with some fairly advanced level info on interval training....

http://www.coachr.org/a_graphical_model_for_interval.htm

If the graph is a little hard to understand here is an example...

At point B, you choose a pace that is equal to 85% of maximal aerobic power (ie: 85% VO2max; this would be equivalent to 90% HRmax: see formula below) and then do 1 set of 4 intervals of 6min with 5min recovery. At point A, the intensity is the same, but here you would do 4 sets of 6-8reps lasting 1min30sec with 1min recovery between reps and 3min recovery between sets.

This graph is pretty close to what a lot of middle distance runners do, but better athletes would have slightly higher total volumes.

(HR formula: %HRmax = 0.64 x %VO2max + 37)

THE site for my motivation (http://www.jillianmichaels.com/) ;DWELL!
The site's been updated & it's great!
You get a basic (very basic) run-down of what I paid $30 to read.
And it's free (unless you want specifics)

In addition, everything about weight loss, high-intensity training, diet, AMR/BMR, dispelling myths about BMI/low-intensity training/exercising in the morning etc that was in the Getting Buffed Thread is in her book.
So if you want to physically flip the pages of the Buffed Thread this is it! Highly recommend it. It even provides recipes!
(and yes buffed, she advocates deads ... with PHOTOS :-D)

Gday Guys.

I have recently started my own sports and fitness site that is based around a forum, its only been up for 6 days now but already has a few members and alot of post.

The whole idea behind the site was to create a place for everyone to come and talk about sport and fitnes in their lives and share tips and hints with each other.

We will have up to date reviews on footware, bikes, sporting events ect with a comprehensive article section. There is alot on there for women to as we wanted to create a place for everyone.

In the Forum we have experienced people to answer your questions and guide you along the way.

We have recipe's that are updated almost everyday designed around healthy eating.

Please pop on over and join up and get chatting and if you think you could offer anything to the site in the way of reviews or articles then please drop me a PM.

Like i said the site is only 6 days ols and still has along way to go but its a start.

Thanks
