does anyone know of a really good techno mix cd?

not an easy question but I'm looking for stuff kinda like Richie Rich, crossed with djs like phil smart, patrick HAF, biz-e and other not-really-tech styles

I'd prefer to get a local one too

I know what you're saying re local content, but unless you big, a promoter, then it's hard to get a mixed CD out.

There are plenty of good international artists though. Some that spring to mind are...

Dark Shark Series Vol.4 - Speaker Attack Switzerland
Billy Nasty Vol.1 (this has an excellent track listing!)
The Torture Chamber Vol.2 - mixed by Umek (also good)
On the Road - A mix by Monika Kruse

Good luck...

Kazu Kimura's (Brisbane) DJ Excursions CD from 1998 is simply brilliant.

This question seems to come up a lot?!?!

Some local techno, and tech DJ mix CD's I like...

Kazu Kimura + Simon Coyle - Sound Design
Richie Rich - Hardware 5
Richie Rich - Hardware 6
Eric Powel + Will E Tell - DJ Excursions
Kazu Kimura + Will E Tell - DJ Excusions
Ken Cloud + Simon Caldwell - DJ Excursions ?

There was some Sabotage and Tweekin mix CD's around many years ago! mixed by Ray + Phil. I know Patrick HAF has made/sold mix CD's in the past, not 'commercially' released, I never got around to buying one from him, be keen to get a new one!

There's heaps of International techno CD's out there... Just depends on the sound you're into...

Adam Beyer - Stockholm Mix Sessions Volume 3
Umek - Torture Chamber Vol 2
Umek - On Monoid
Samuel L Session - On Monoid
Christian Smith - Tronic Treatment
Richie Hawtin - Dex, FX & 909
Richie Hawtin - DE9 : Closer To The Edit
Misstress Barbara - Relentless Beats Vol 1
Misstress Barbara - Relentless Beats Vol 2
Dave Clarke - Live At Fuse
Dave Clarke - World Service
Luke Slater - Fear And Loathing
Monika Kruse - On The Road Mix 1
Monika Kruse - On The Road Mix 2
Tiga - American Gigolo : The Best Of Gigolo Records
Sven Vath - Sound Of The 2nd Season
Steve Rachmad - In The Mix

...and there's heaps more out there too...

Forgot... another Aussie... DJ HMC, has relesed a few excellent mix CD's as well... Can't remember their exact titles... One with DJ Dijital? One which features his own productions (recorded live at Heaven in Adelaide), another which was a DJ mix as part of those DJ mix series... and I think one of the Dirty House Compilation CD's came with an extra DJ HMC mixed CD...

Can you help DJ Royal?

TECHiONE all the local CDs that you mentioned are great. And all of them as DJs are great in their field.

Although while I listen to Will E Tells excursions mix you can quite honestly hear the 'dated' sound of the techno being presented. That sound remained quite stagnant and was very popular for ages.

A true representation of the current sound would be Simon Coyles latest mix on Wet Musik. My only criticism of the mix would be that there are to many Wet label tracks included. I'll probably be canned over that statement.

DJ HMC - definitely. "LSD" - as featured on FACT II, and "Phreakin" awesome talent.

Also Rob Little from the Dirty House crew!

Yeah HMC has released some wicked tracks.
esp: dirty acid trax & phreakin
and I still listen to his DJ's downunder CD even now.. however, heard him play at cyberotica mardi gras night a few years ago and thought his dj set was well boring.. none of the treacks he played stood out from each other, and he didn't have the dj skill to make them stand out. no cutting up , or EQ twiddling..

Interesting, I've only seen him once up here is Vegas, I thought he played a great set. Anyway, I feel his talent is definitely more on the production side of things...

DJ HMC - DJ's Downunder, that's one of the titles I couldn't remember, thanks!

DJ HMC is an awesome DJ/producer, he's not a cut up, tricks, effects type DJ... so yeah if you expect that of him, you'll be dissapointed... he has an amazing talent for perfectly seamlessly blending music/tracks together... he was awesome at Kaplunk, and awesome at the simadelaide juice records party in Adelaide not too long ago... have seen him 100's of times, being from Adelaide myself...

:)

Try Carl Cox - Global? Havnt heard it myself though. An older techno CD you may like is Oliver Liebs' 'Future Tech Trance' Dave Clarke/World Service and Umek/Torture Chamber are great Cd's too...

MP3 wise, try and get "Jeff Mills live @ Liquid Room 2000" that is an awesome 3 hour techno mix.

you best check two new mix cd's coming out on Warp, and Turbo. both claim to be ADAM BEYER's first mix cd. from the track-listing, they both look extremely tasty.

my all time favourite mix:

Cristian Varela - Live at Phrenetic Madrid

Techno Concept 2

No locals, but all the techno greats are on there: Jeff Mills, Rino Cerrone, Technasia, Funk D'Void, etc.

They are both very close companions which I take with me where ever I go :)

P.S. TECHiONE: OhMyGod!!! it's like you've got a memory chip in your brain :P
