As a lover of food and always eager to try new places / styles (cheap or expensive) as long as the food is oh-so-tasty and entices the taste buds.
Please dont post just because you read some review in the good food guide or heard that "so and so" restaurant is excellent down the grape vine. No show ponies pls.
Personal experiences including:
service
style of food
what you ordered and the quality of food ambience
whether or not it had that extra little something
was it worth the price you paid
etc etc etc
Reviews from other states or even overseas are welcome.
All in Sydney
Spice I am (Surry Hills) - Thai
Small little joint - the staff cant speak english very well but they are very friendly. Not fancy but seriously great food that is not for the faint hearted.
Spice i am stays true to its name - very spicy but so tasty you keep going back for more. cheap food.
crispy basil chicken (order with white rice) - excellent dish, so tasty it hurts.
green chicken curry - hot damn this dish killed my mouth
red curry - a slightly milder than the green curry (i prefer this one to the green one)
chicken pad thai - simply delish
wash it all down with coconut juice (i think this cools my mouth)
oh and an unlimited supply of water should be readily available at all times.
Makato (near sharkbar in the city) - Japanese - Sushi Bar
More expensive than the regular "sushi train bars" but the quality of food is excellent and very satisfying. My favourite sushi bar in sydney.
Tempura udon - silky smooth udon noodles and the tempura is crisp and crunchy without being too oily. (ask them to not put the tempura in with the soup other wise it will go soggy and that defeats the purpose of having crispy tempura - i prefer to dip the tempura at my own will) (all the hotpots are pretty good too)
Favourite sushi - fried king prawn roll, seaweed salad, salmon caviar + paradise prawn, salmon combination roll, cooked prawn & mayonnaise. I'm also addicted to japanese mayonnaise - i eat it on its own.
It's almost always full. (be prepared to wait at least 40 mins for a seat on thurs/fri/sat night - no bookings). The sushi is always fresh because its so busy and there is a high turn over. I enjoy watching the sushi chefs make the sushi right in front of you. They are all very friendly but its a place where you eat and leave - not much chit chat gets taken place here. Always fun to come and eat here.
Masuya (O'Connell St CBD) - Japanese
Excellent sit down Japanese restaurant. These are the same people who also own/run makato. Lunch is very busy - book ahead.
Huge portions. A little expensive for lunch but i'm more stuffed than a porn star after i've finished a meal here.
Entree servings are quite large.
Salmon & Caviar is excellent for some fried salmon fun - ask for extra sauce (i find they never put enough)
Shogun set is good to order for a little sampling of various dishes. (Wagyu yakiniku beef, teriyaki chicken, tempura, sashimi, nigiri sushi, california roll, miso soup and rice)
Tempura & udon noodle set - A bigger better version of makatos tempura udon noodles. (Deep-fried king prawns, seafood and vegetables served with tempura dipping sauce, udon noodle, sashimi and rice)
The edamame (i dont particularly like beans but these are quite juicy and tasty) + agedashi tofu are two yummy side dishes.
good. Overall good service and great food.
More to come ..

Gelbison in Marrion St Leichardt Sydney is great Italian at very good price. Much better than the stuff you will get on Norton St.
Also Amanda's on the Edge in Hunter Valley. 5 star food and great atmosphere. Nice way to get on your partners good side. Reasonable pricing too.
3 Mango's Thai in Newtown. Great food and the restaraunt has a nice authentic Thai feeling.
I also tried a new Pizza reastaraunt is Darlinghust the other day. AMAZING.
This is the only place in Australia where you will be able to eat a real Authentic Napoli Pizza. The restaraunt is nothing flash but the Pizza is the real deal.
Don't ask for Pinapple on your Pizza or you can expect a slap in the face :)

Enzo's - Port Road Woodville - book a fortnight in advance or grab a takeaway from their gourmet store

Trumps on King St in Sydney's CBD. Seriously the best Thai I've ever tasted...it's cheap and the portions are HUGE. The cashew nuts with tofu is to DIE for, sweetie! ;)
Also, the chef and her husband are really sound people :thumb:

Just a tip dollbaby. Water actually increases the heat burn from curry. If you want to cool your mouth down you need milk or yoghurt.
My favourite local eat out at the moment is the Teriyaki Fusion Japanese Joint on Glebe Point Road opposite the AB.
Everything I've eaten there has been delicious and it rarely costs us over $15 each for entree and main. It's a simple and efficient little place that's typically sparse on decor and quite small and cosy so you're not eating with a massive crowd.
My friends and I love it.
I've eaten at Kilimanjaro African Eatery in Newtown twice this year and a couple of times in the past. I adore the food there but the service is nothing short of hilarious due to the 'rude edge' it has to it. If you go there you gotta be prepared to cop some attitude and just give it back I reckon. It's worth it for the food.
Katmandu Himilayan on Glebe Point Road is a must for Nepalese. Go with a few people and get the banquet. You'll be stuffed and get to have a bit of everything. The Nepalese Kitchen on Crown Street is also great.

Bistro Lilly - Nice place, variety of food, fish, beef, pasta etc..
IT'S GOOD OK!
very good service, decently priced.
East Circular quay chinese - something like that. Maddest chinese in sydney! fuckin love it, and has a great view, right down near the dendy cinema at the quay.
Chilli Lime Too - at Cremorne, nicest malaysian and thai food, give it a whirl! Cheap too and great atmosphere.
Watermark - sexcellent for those extravagant meals, right on balmoral beach.
cbf thinking of anymore

Roma Pizza - South Hurstville#
* Really, really nice wood-fired pizza that tastes like the authentic Italian stuff.
* Reasonable prices, and certainly a lot cheaper than the city
* Hot waitresses :blush:
* Cool background music & ambience - i think they were playing a Kruder & Dorfmeister or Cafe Del Mar CD last time i was there.
* I always have the bruschetta as well, which is tasty.
# I may or may not be a distant relative of the owners

Good call.
The best seafood would have to be at Pier Nine in Brisbane.
I am a lover of Seafood, and this place is my heaven :)

Piccolo in Angove St North Perth.
Owner/Chef Paul Macnish (an old friend of mine) has won awards in NSW (worked at Threbdo) and has extensive experience in Canada.
Broad range of styles in cuisine, and considering the high quality, the prices are amazingly low.
Love that place.

Agree with Doll baby on Spice I am - it is so good (and so cheap!).
Dollbaby - try the fish stew inside bananna leaf (it's an entree). Unbelievable.
Other favourties of mine:
Phamish in Darlinghurst (cnr Boundary & Liverpool) is awesome Vietnamese, with great atmosphere.
Bon Ricardo (Boundary St) has amazing Italian food (expensive) 2 hat restaurant I think, it burns a hole in your pocket though well worth it
Pub feed - Grand National in paddington

yeh definitely give it a go! It is by far my favourite of the 'fine dining' restaurants in Sydney
The egg truffle pasta dish (their speciality) is absolutely amazing (they will split entree's in 2 if you ask , so you can have 2 mini entree's!)
Enjoy!

Japanese:
Ototo - little japanese place on oxford st in bondi junction, across the road and down a little further than where maccas used to be.
It's a little more expensive than it used to be, but the food is still great, but a little restricted (mains 8-11), lunch only. Don't expect table service, but do expect your food quickly after ordering from the counter.
hint: quieter, more room upstairs
it has a sister restaurant up the road that opens for dinner called Wa - much classier though
Thai:
Nina's Ploy Thai, Bondi Beach -Great food, pretty good service. Not as good as i remember it being, but still very good.
Try the drunken noodles - spicy but great!
Some Vegetarian Place in Newtown - Sorry, Don't remember the name, but went to this place 2 weeks ago on King St. Great food, great service. Imitation pork, chicken, seafood etc. Really, really good food.
Pizza:
Wilson's Place on Bondi rd (Bondi) - a great little (gourmet) pizza shop. Went there last friday fro lunch.
Great service, Great pizza. All very tasty.
The food and gelato was fantastic, haven't tried the coffee though.
The guy gave us free garlic bread and a (1.25L) bottle of coke when we ordered 2 Large pizzas.
Around $18 for a large.
Coffee:
While not a restaurant (do serve salads and sandwiches for lunch though), Fioro Cafe on Pitt St (across the rd from Macquarie Bank) makes FANTASTIC coffee.
I'm not the only one that thinks so (even if a slightly biased opinion), as they sell ~1000 cups a day.
Not a chain. Fantastic coffee and service. If you become a regular, we'll remember your coffee! Can get kinda busy though, which will mean worse service, as with anywhere.
NOTE: not open on weekends, opens ~7:00am, closes ~4:30pm
oh yeah, and CHOCOLATE:
also not quite food, but Haigh's is incredible.
Haven't actually tried it since it came to Sydney, but had alot in Adelaide before they opened here. There's a factory tour and all there!
and Max Brenner, paddington - the one's in Double Bay and Chatswood don't do the original justice IMO
i think that's all my recommendations for now.
Here's a few..
