Ok peeps here's your chance to share with your fellow brethren where the best places to get good produce from. I'm sick of the supermarket shite and need somewhere to buy fruit/vege/meat.

Personally, I like the West End markies because they're pretty close and goodsome, but let's team up and compile a list eh?

Just post something along the lines of;

suburb
street/s or location
day/time
what's available
where to park
any additional info.

Boycott foolworths!!

Best organic vegie markets in Brisbane are the Northey Street Markets, Newmarket (just off Bowen Bridge Rd, near the RBH).
On every Saturday morning (but get there before 10 they start early (damn farmers) and close early).
It's all organic produce sold by the farmer. Mainly fruit and vege but they also sell eggs, organic meat, bread, grains & pulses etc.
It's not cheap and the range is limited to what's in season but it's some of the best fruit and vegies I've ever tasted.

yea .. get there early.

10 is like late lunch time for most folks there ... the serious shoppers are there at 6 most weekends

Ferny Grove Markets are also excellent value for fruit & veg - all produce is grown locally. Once again you have to get there early. They are @ the Car Park @ the Train Station. Cheap as chips plants also. Love it!

Meh I didn't really rate them.... most of the fruit didn't last and the vege was pretty limp.

My boy and I go to the butcher and green grocer and never coles anymore except for junk food.... We have been looking for a green grocer (trying lots of different ones each week) and have finally found one of the best fresh/organic/cheap fruit markets.

Green Grocer: If you live on the northside try out Lawnton Fruit Market. I know it's a bit of a drive out but it is totally organic, straight from the farmer (also has a deli) and it is the freshest, longest lasting fruit and vege I have EVER bought and cheap as!
It's on Gympie Rd, on the left hand side... big yellow building in an L shape. (Across the roadish from Supercheap)

Example of what we bought:
1 whole pumpkin
3kg potatoes
1kg sweet potato
1 bag of capsicum (about 4)
1 bag zuchinni (about 4)
1 bag of carrots (about 6)
1kg bag of tomatoes
2kg bag onion
1 fill it yourself bag each of apples, mandarins, oranges
1 punnet of strawberries
chillies
ginger
leek
red onion
lettuce mix
brocolini and cauli
mix bag of beans and snow peas
full bag of mushrooms
soya chips
Total at the checkout = $35something!!!!

All this lasted us 2 weeks and it was still fresh as. IMO best buy in Brisbane.

Meat: Rode Road Butcher. He is a little more expensive than other butchers by a dollar or two, but the least amount of fat and so tasty! We would also nearly spent about $40 a week there on meat. Lamb cutlets are too die for (and plenty of lamb on them!)
