Nah, stuff that! I'm going to golden century tonight!
The Chelsea in Chatswood also does a $7.50 steak and mash/chips with sauce, it's OK but the Mosman one is much better quality.

liz_r believe me when i say the mushroom sauce at station hotel (old bar 2060) is the best
you should try it if you live on the north side. Pepper sauce is awesome too.
Hell I dont even like mushrooms but I love this stuff.

How good is the quality of steak for 5-10 bucks? Id rather pay 15-20 knowing im getting a good lean peice of steak
not a fricken leather peice or wallet with some fat on the sides

yeah but what is the quality of the steak?
the $6.50 steak at mosman hotel is a 300g prime porterhouse. The same steak at the grocer will cost you $22-$24/kilo. can lansdowne beat that?.....i doubt it.
Mosman hotel FTW

depends on the day... sometimes it's great rump or another cut..... other days it's not as good.

try mosman hotel. i buy the same cut from the local grocer for $24/kilo. it's good stuff. My only complaint is that they don't give you enough mash, but for 6.50 that's life

The Captain Cook on corner of Moore Park Road aint too shabby ($7 i think, biut include sauce etc) or the Robin Hood in Charing Cross
I don't mind the $10 steak at The Burbon, nice and thick, cooked well too.
Any steak under $10 at those cheap places I wouldn't pay $2 for.

The Alfred on Missenden Rd in Camperdown/Newtown = $6 steak & mash/chips.

Misinformed. You can find, if you look and are discerning. There's plenty of crap, but dig through it and ye shall find.

if youre talking pub food, then the meals at the Grand National in Paddo are all excellent and under $20 - gert freshh produce and they all come out of the same kitchen as the fabulaous restuarnt attached
outside of pub food you could feast on a kings banquet for under $20, esp at some of the fab thai places round town :thumb:

Fair enough.
I dont live in Mosman, so i can agree to point 2 :p but i live close enough to not worry about travel time

a) when you get a meal for $5, you need to be realistic about the standards you expect. no, it's not going to be the same as a $20 steak. but it will be better and cheaper than a big mac meal.
b) where do you live? between my house (paddington) and china town i could find you soooooooo many great meals for under $20. we live in an awesome multicultural city where fresh produce is cheap and abundant - turning your nose up at meals under $20 isn't doing yourself any favours.
Shark hotel and star bar do a $5.95 porterhouse with mash- It is fantastic- better that what I got for $30 from I am angus

Lately I've been hitting the Pyrmont Bridge Hotel every monday night for the $6 steak. They flip a coin, if you call it, free steak to you. 50/50 chance. Pretty fucking simple. The gravy and mash rocks, and I'm a bit of a steak fanatic but these babies are good. Even better when they are FREE :thumb:

have to agree with you. captain cook @ paddington is the best. you get a good bit of steak with extras for $7 everyday of the week!! i eat there regularly!! its a good laid back place to go... however, get there early on thursday nights so you can get a seat as it gets really busy after 7pm!!
