It's so hard to believe that one magic night (well, a couple of magic nights!) that place was filled with ravers have the time of their lives. It feels like it was so long ago but I remember it so clearly... It's got to be one of the best venues I ever partied in.

Yeah it's pretty awesome. I know everytime I drive around there I still think of those days. (I used to live in glebe) I still point the area out to people and say I went to a rave over there

Have to agree that it was an awesome venue, that along with the old prison or barracks or whatever they were near Taylor Square in Darlinghurst and Magik Kingdom are amongst the best places I raved.

I went to a rave in the wooden maze when I lived in Canberra... that was pretty cool.

Magic Kingdom brings back some awesome memories too! Jade playing an anthems set in the moning - GOLD!

Yeah, what an absolute gem of a venue, only to be used* once or twice.

(*Xmas Eve 94 featuring Dyewitness for a dodgy DJ set (or was that DAT?) complemented by those seedy dancers-come-strippers-wearing-reverse-G-string-leotards comes to mind.)

Still, a magic venue with its fantastic courtyard surrounds, all protected by the high stone walls circling the complex, much like a medieval castle.

Ov the Earth Tribe the first party at the Silo's was nothing short of amazing.Where you walked in upstairs was the House room, then you walked to this staircase that took you down into this black plastic maze.Took a friend and i a while to navigate through it.Then downstairs there was a Hardcore room and a chillout. You could pretty much wander around the whole place all night. They had a room filled with bean bag balls all over the floor and was lit up by fluro light.Seeing as this was the only lit room in the place it made every time you went in there so bright. They had a huge projection of Sonic the Hedgehog on a wall as you walked in.The production as far as theming went was pretty awesome.
I saw Elvis at one stage.A mate of mine left these people he did not know in his car all night .I would come back every now and then and they would still be there with an ever changing cast of other people.
Some friends rocked up who were going to another party and we begged them to go in to check it out. They were so glad they did.
I saw people doing some really risky stuff that night. How people never got hurt at some these parties i will never know.Ive often wonderd if you could legally do a part there. It is the most amazing space for a party.

Yes. that sounds like the party I was at. In the hall/room or whatever it was that had bletchers up both sides, and people were dancing on them.

I remember being at the very top towards the centre and looking accross and seeing a friend from work in the same posi on the other side of the room

I have a vague recollection of it being so hot in the centre of the hall that steam was rising from the people. I seem to remember spraying people in front of with the full water bottle I had to cool them down.

Awesome Venue.

Totally... at one stage I looked up to see a bunch of kids heaving themselves up the ladder staircases, waving as they went - all the while I was thinking about how I was in no state to climb anything!!!

I'm tempted to go down there one weekend and explore...

The second party I went to there was a few weeks later, the smell on entry was almost unbearable - obviously there were no loos in the place so the first time round people had been going where ever they could find... that was kinda gross!

Wow that looks like an awesome venue.

The Perth equivalent was probably the Midland Railway workshops (which got closed in '93). They were used for raves in the mid 90s, before the coppers went nuts on closing big events down.

We saw the ID & T Thunderdomers in the 'Machinery Shop' in '95 - FKN huge wharehouse - must be several hundred metres long and very high ceiling.

Midland Train Yards (http://pandora.nla.gov.au/pan/32932/20021227/darlingtonvillage.org/HTML_Pages/midworkshops.html)

They've been totally refurbished as a tourist (trap) attraction.

The party we went to stank as well.It was a really damp wet smell.Dont know how some people managed to keep their dinner down ;).
I remember looking for a mate in the morning everywhere and eventually found him asleep on the floor of the chilloutb room with his head in a bass bin .Everyone in the car on the way home was so high on what we had just expierienced more than anything else.

Yep I seem to recall a pretty bad smell as you walked into the place as well, must have got used to it after being inside for awhile :tripping:

Do you remember roughly what year it was or the party name? The one I was at would have been between 93 and 96. I am hopless with placing venues to party names :slap:

Well the first one was Ecky Thump (1), and it took place around June 95, I can't remember the exact date but it was either before or after Techicolour (which was I know took place sometime around my birthday, mid-june). The second was Ecky Thump 2.

Sorry about the dates - my memory resembles swiss cheese at the best of times, especially when recalling those days!

Eckythump 1 sounds like the one I was at. The smell was a damp, musty type of smell.

Dates I can help with, check out this site http://www.mksydney.com/eventlist . Matching event names to venues is where I luck out. I know what you mean re the swiss cheese.

Cheers M

E Thump one was a pretty small crowd, and we had to climb through a fence to get in. It was pretty dry and dusty in there that night - but the 2nd one stank like... shit!

That list is pretty wild - and there were so many parties I never went to!!! But there are a lot that I did go to... mostly 1994-1997. I think so dates are a bit out on the list but it's still pretty good! And there's also quite a few missing...

Wow I had some crazy nights!!!
