don't know about the rest of you, but i enjoy a good movie from time to time (often a bit more than that ...), and integral to every movie is their soundtrack.
my faves are:
-requiem for a dream (symphony)
-bladerunner (vangelis - pre-electronic electronica)
-grosse point blank (Specials, Violent Femmes, The Clash, Joe Strummer, The Pixies, etc...)
-run lola run (pounding lo-fi techno)

- Any movie by Tarantino, particularly Natural Born Killers and Reservoir Dogs
- Magnolia - Aimee Mann pretty much carries the whole soundtrack 'cos she *can*!
- Tomb Raider - good angry music and the music had to be good 'cos the film sucked ass!

*ever* is such a long time, but swingers is awesome. i rarely would ever bother with a soundtrack album but this is pretty cool. same for blues brothers.
Music works very well and is intrumental in office space and happy gilmour, although i doubt there would be ay depth for an album.
Giving awaymy lack of maturity here. has to be millions of others.

the film is worth seeing if you can find it - if anyone else out there is into b grades and psychedelic freakout exploitation films:) :)

Well...kinda birdie! but as they say that's not all!
Any movie that gets called "the Citizen Kane of European exploitation" has to be worth checking out, right???
Saying that I guess you've got to be into b-grades and trashy movies to like it - stuff like John Waters, Ed Wood, etc etc.
Anyway I still reckon the sound track is great regardless of the dubious nature of the film!;)

Indiana Jones - Temple Of Doom
Indian Jones - The Last Crusade
Close Encounters Of The Third Kind

>> 'grosse point blank' - nice nomination, the scene where john cusack goes from listening to 'live and let die' by g&r in the car into a 7-11 playing a muzak version was timeless... ;)
There's too many to mention... I couldn't pick a favourite but interesting ones include:
- Ravenous (Michael Nyman and Damon Albon) - twisted offbeat hillbilly shit, made an interesting movie more interesting
- Out Of Sight (David Holmes, mostly compilation) - same guy who did Oceans Eleven remake, only I think this one is better - David Holmes is a genius
- The Harder They Come (Jimmy Cliff) - classic reggae soundtrack
- More (Pink Floyd) - some great stuff that's not too irritatingly average Pink Floyd
- Malcolm (...?) - classic Australian movie (with the car that splits in half) and a fun soundtrack
Absolutely positively Pulp Fiction!
It's one of the only constants in my "short list CDs" (the 16 that i carry around in my handbag, for my PC and diskman).

One that I don't think has been mentioned yet, which is quite old but I always like, is the Tank Girl soundtrack.
Soundtracks from The Crow and Natural Born Killers are also amongst my favourites, which you'd probably figure from the nine inch nails (http://webeckl.com/bill/nin.html) section of my old website.
Hmm.. seeing as this is probably the only time it will be relevant, here's a gratuitous plug:-
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~ruiner/webeck_com/bill/banner.jpg (http://webeck.com/bill/)
Some scary old photos of me there, but since it's about six years old, not a lot of relevance to today's world.

..other honourable mentions I can think of:
The Virgin Suicides (Air) - much more interesting then the movie itself
Eraserhead (David Lynch) - not so much a musical soundtrack as a soundscape soundtrack, and probably not released on its own, but it added a to the movie in a huge way and scared the hell out of me
Gallipoli (Jean-Michel Jarre) - best use of an early electro track in a war movie I've come across

BMoney, you rock for this resurrection.
John Carpenter is my favorite movie scorer, hands down. His stuff is all memorable, you'll never forget the themes. All the way back to the country tune of Dark Star through synth meanderings in Halloween, Escape From New York, Big Trouble in Little China, In The Mouth of Madness, Escape from LA, Ghosts of Mars... His influence is all over The Thing... He's the fucking master.
Giorgio Moroder is another composer i love. Midnight Express has a classic score, one of the best ever. American Gigolo, Flashdance, Scarface, Top Gun... He's a bit more "classic" like John Williams or Hans Zimmer, but he still pulls out the sweaty beating synths and i love it.
I also liked Crossroads for the bluesy stuff. Event Horizon had some gnarly bits. Apparently Orbital helped out scoring that one. Betty Blue / 37 Le Matin has some very memorable hooks. Norman Cook made a song out of one of them i think.
If you're just talking MTV soundtracks and not scores then i guess Hackers would take the cake. I can't think of many other films where pop songs were integrated so well. Mortal Kombat had some good tunes too but i don't think the integration was as smooth as Hackers. The Spiderman theme song was alright and fit very well into the movie. One of the things that makes Chasing Amy a particularly memorable movie for me is that intro and ending theme, but that may just be me.
<3 movie scores :-D
Spun (Billy Corgan)
Human Traffic
Spawn (never seen it though)
Beverly Hills Cop (cheesy 80s music, love it)
Somersault (Aussie movie with soundtrack by Decoder Ring)
Danny Elfman does some fine work too, and let us never forget John Williams /insertsImperialMarch/

YES...Pi is fucking superb and is probably my favourite of all time! Clint Mansell is a goddamn genius  Requiem for a Dream (the non-Kronos Quartet bits), Knockaround Guys, Doom (crap film, good soundtrack)...the list goes on!
I'm a bit of a soundtrack whore, to be honest...I own way too many to list here. A couple of other standouts for me are: Swingers; Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (Yo-Yo Ma is a legend); Reservoir Dogs; and the Akira OST.
Alison...John Carpenter is one of my OST Gods, too! The Thing is my fave film of all time (check the avatar! :-D ) and the score is just mind-blowing...synth'y goodness!

layer cake has an awesome soundtrack.. highly recommended
There were some really good score-y bits in Revenge of the Sith, that made me melt. The moment when Anakin and Padme are in separate places but can feel each other (just before Anakin rushes to the Jedi temple), it's so sad and then when Anakin and Obi begin their duel at the end, the SCORE omG the score.

Bladerunner is the bees knees
Paris, Texas was done by Ry Cooder and is a great slab of moody slide guitar
The soundtrack to The Last Temptation of Christ was done by Peter Gabriel and is called Passion ... a truly marvellous album
Akira just has to get a noteable mention ... as marvellous and the movie
2001 A Space Odessy was very apt for it's themes
The Piano ... The soundtrack is very much like a variation on a theme for the most part ... but it's pretty moving stuff

+ Reality Bites (1994): The songs match the type of movie so well. - even popping a u2 song in there worked ok! But Squeeze's "Tempted" is for me the best track.
+ Great Expectations (1998): A Tori Amos a vocal soundtrack, Chris Cornell's "Sunshower", Fischer's "Breakable" and the many variations of "Besame Mucho"
However i have to admit that the SCORE music is even better than that soundtrack. One of the pieces "Kissing in the Rain" is gorgeous!!!
+ Monster (2004): Intruiging work from BT. using a hurdy-gudy as a constant through the film. It was orchestrated in DTS 5.1 - so always best to listen it in. It's sometimes a bit distrubing to fall to sleep to but kinda nice also. "Childhood Montage" a nice track.
+ Empire Records (1995): "Crazy Life" by Toad The Wet Sprocket. GOLD!!!!
+ Shawshank Redemption (1994): absolutely beautiful score. obviously there's the Marriage of Figaro opus and Hank William's "LoveSick Blues".
last but certainly not least>
+ Cowboy Bebop BLUE(first released 1999 and again 2001): There are a few score CDs from this anime. And i have to admit they are AWESOME - Yoko Kanno is exceptional, and her version of Ave Maria is pretty nice too.
so anyways that's me blahh'ing on... :)

Yeah? I've tried doing the thing a few times and it never seems that special. Maybe you just have to be stoned or somethingyea ... it's never been something i understood or got into.
I reckon it needs to be done with Dub Side of the Moon if you're going to be smoking ;D
best soundtracks for me include;
run lola run
and
human traffic
I'd have to say they're both good, I'd add One Perfect Day and the splendid cheese that is Top Gun
I can't believe no one has mentioned the LOST IN TRANSLATION soundtrack yet!
This is by far my favourite soundtrack of all time, and one which I never tire of unlike many other soundtracks.
My Bloody Valentine, Kevin Shields, Squarepusher, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Death in Vegas - absolutely beautiful!
ooh, i just remembered the 'three colours blue' soundtrack from the three colours trilogy.
composer: zbigniew preisners.
spooky, compelling and hauntingly beautiful music which really fuelled the movie.

vampyros lesbos (a late 60s film by jesus franco) has some very funky 60s grooves - gets sampled and played a lot these days...
the film is worth seeing if you can find it - if anyone else out there is into b grades and psychedelic freakout exploitation films:) :)
RIP the encore cinema!!
