View Full Version : Best online photo album?
I want to set up new online photo albums. I've been using yahoo for a couple of years but I want to change, the pictures are too small and crap-like. Plus I want to be able to add a group of friends who can see my pictures. Not sure if this is possible. Thinking about flickr but would prefer something free.
Help plz.

This is probably going to be useless advice, but I use yahoo, bebo, imagestation & flickr...
Yahoo is a pain in the arse - but my Mum understands it.
I use bebo because a lot of my friends used it already, its a bit dumb and low quality - and not everyone wants to make an account on sites to see photos either
Imagestation were good, but now they make you pay (bastards) so I just have old stuff on there
and Flickr - I use for higher quality stuff

I use www.photobucket.com
It's a great site and you can fit as many photos are you like.
My space is another good one for adding pictures and blogs.
My sista uses shutterfly and its brilliant hey. Many many uses, for example for my mums birthday cause both me and my sister are travelling we picked the photo's she had on the web and arranged it into a calander and they did therest and sent it to whatever address (of course for a cost) but generally tis a good website
I dont like shutterfly because if I remember rightly, you have to register to see your friends pictures. At this stage I'm leaning towards photobucket, there is no registration for that yeah?
www.bugbitten.com
it's fabulous. SO quick to upload photos. rEALLY easy to use. you can put passwords on certain albums if you want so only certain ppl can see them.
its really quicky and easy.
i already said that...
can't recommend them enuf.
www.bugbitten.com/scully if u wanna have a look at one in action
Sate dawg, Flickr is free, you just pay for a pro account, which gives you unlimited uploads and unlimited sets. It's worth trying, and then if you use it enough maybe look at a pro account.
You can't beat it imho.

i've been on yahoo a bit recently, unlimited everything, then after putting one album up they changed their software for it and now i can't put anything up...sometimes i hate having no idea what i'm doing wiht a computer
i run a gallery on my own domain, but out of the other ones i've tried flickr was definitely the best. i think pro accounts are really cheap, too.

Flickr is it.. but only 20mb of uploads a month if you have a free account.
Keep the original resolution and easy to share and add comments etc.
It's so good lots of professional photographers use it for their online folios
Another vote for www.flickr.com
flikr is so damn slow and painful to use =/
photobucket is sweet. havent tried anything else because ive been using it for eons. 1gig for free. hells yeah.

Flickr Pro is awesome, good value for money for what you get. Uploading couldn't be simpler with that little app you get.
Plus the community aspect of it is great.
Yeah I do have friends who use flickr. And Martin
Google have a photo storing facility now, with Picasa..the program itself is pretty dope, once you download it it searches you computer for every picture stored and categorises them..and then you can upload

i suggest using gallery http://gallery.menalto.com/
of course you need webspace and a database server etc to run it... so i dunno.
but if you ask really super mega nice. i may throw away a few hundred MB for you for free.
another vote for Flikr from me :thumb:

i was going to go with pbase, but went with flickr pro account. 25 US bux for 2 gig a month! good if you have a little guy in the family that the oldies like to keep track of.

flickr is delightfully chic looking, but i find the limited number of albums on the free account fairly annoying.
i've recently started using photobucket, and it's super easy and reliable and generally very robust. it's certainly not as sexy as flikr, but it gets the job done.
two thumbs up!
flikr is so damn slow and painful to use =/
i've never had that issue
i love flickr :-D
its such an awesome site
and i've renewed my pro account for 2 years :-D
the pro account also gives you archiving of your photos
so basically they will always be there (which to my mind is a good thing if my laptop and external HDD ever meltdown completely)
photobucket. does everything i need for free.

Its the ultimate for travellers, though you pay to sign up. Its brilliant, the sheer variety of batch uploading means you can plug in your camera or mem card in a web cafe and kaboom, upload with a few clicks. It keeps full res and makes variety of thumbnails etc.. check it out. I only knew of Flickr before this but im all SmugMug now... great service and quick servers!

I've just paid for the 25gb picasaweb storage upgrade, i really like it as it ties in with my google account (mail/blogger/cal/etc) and the iphoto plugin is really really nice.
