Just picked this CD up yesterday, and its wicked! :)
Alarm Will Sound is a 20-member band that focuses on recordings and performances of contemporary music. Alarm Will Sound's repertoire ranges from European to American works, from the arch-modernist to the pop-influenced. The latest (Acoustica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustica_%28Alarm_Will_Sound_album%29) July, 2005 release) features acoustic arrangements of music by Aphex Tiwn. Members of the ensemble began playing together while studying at and have diverse experience in composition, improvisation, jazz and popular styles, early music, and world musics.
Cool review here http://www.popmatters.com/music/reviews/a/alarmwillsound-acoustica.shtml
interesting. i had a CD by a four piece string quartet that was all afx covers, which wasn't quite intriguing enough to bother keeping, but i'll give this one a shot.

I fucking love this cd! Got it after seeing a positive review on discogs and never looked back. Very good and they cover so many of the xounds so well. If you're a fan of the 'Phex I'd deffo recommend.

Totally!
mxmai, some of the instruments used on the album will give you an indication of the depth and sound of the interpretation:
curtain rods
hose horn
duck call
plastic tubing
air pumps
water hose
engraving tool
cocktail stirrer kalimba
+ the normal array of orchestral instruments of the stringed, wind, and percussive type
;)
It really is an amazing de-mix of AT tunes.
And the final 2 tracks are beat-driven re-mixes of the orchestral de-mixes of AT tunes. :tripping:

Yep, got this one through the Cyclic Defrost music club (http://www.cyclicdefrost.com/club.php) a while back...definitely takes the spirit of Aphex Twin into a totally different arena :)

For those into this style of mashup, you may also take an interest in the CD "Warp Works & Twentieth Century Masters", which is a collection of musical collaborations between Warp Records and the London Sinfonietta. They also did some live concerts that were quite spectacular supposedly, but I am unsure of whether or not video material from these was released :( And yes, Alarm Will Sound is bloody tops!
oooh, that sounds cool. i'll have to dig around for that.
