"Yeldham's live performance consists of grinding his face into a sheet of mic'd up plate glass. It is hideous for a variety of reasons. One is that the transparency of the glass means you get to view his face all squished up against the other side of the glass like a kid on a special bus wiping his nose down the window as you overtake them on the motorway. Another reason is the sound really is quite nasty. The resonant properties of the glass means as he yells onto/into it and then pulls and squeezes at the sheet, the pitch of his voice wildly varies and wavers and this in turn is run through some truly ugly processing that makes it sound like a Dalek in it's death throes."

just found this very weird performance clip of Lucas abela contorting sounds with his face on glass.

just wanted to know what people's opinions of noise are here?

Lucas's thing seems more performance than noise. Nonetheless, Dual Plover does rock!

Justice Yeldham is a great guy; we just had him down here in Canberra at Toast recently and he blew the place away...

Yeah, I like noise. Of all types. Anyone else? I get the feeling there was at least one noisy, crunchy dark ambient fan creeping around here awhile ago...

Saw him close for DJ Scotch Egg the other week... it was fantastic! Yes, the novelty wears off quickly, but the nasty nasty sounds he coaxes from his setup will be burnt in to your memory for a long while to come. One thing I have to be thankful of that night was the pre-emptive wearing of earplugs. I was probably the only person in the venue to come protected, and was very thankful of that after his performance.

Oh, and I should mention The Unaustralians who played that night too, very performance-orientated noise, but another act that I really enjoyed and have taken influence from. Any noise can be done well as long as it's in the right context ;)

Yeah noise is OK. I seem to go through a Merzbow phase every few months.

this is going to make me sound like a complete idiot I know, but I went to a noise performance earlier this year determined to 'find a way in'. So I took notes the whole time, writing down my reactions, and my observations about the sound and its texture. After about 10 minutes I think i managed to hear why some people rave about noise. I then thoroughly enjoyed it.

But i had to work quite hard to 'train my ears' so to speak.

But it doesn't work for me at home.....

Hahaha you total nerd! Awesome stuff.

There IS something to noise music. Try explaining it to people tho...

Noise is great stuff - but it's very 'had to be there' in that it's impossible to explain to someone how say DJ Scotch Egg, mentioned above, with his three gameboys and megaphone screaming directly in front of you and you screaming just as loud back in between swigs of rum makes for an awesome awesome night.
Justice Yeldham has performed with Passenger of Shit as DJ Smallcock (they're both in Suicidal Rap Orgy whom I'm desperately searching for 'Genital Warfare' from).
Generally good noise music (take that as you will) has got all the chin-stroking of good downtempo ambient stuff with enough rage to get you on your feet.
Quite a fan of some of the more noise stuff V/Vm brings out too.

no offense but i think you're thinking about it too much.

noise is okay, but ive ceases coming across releases that are pioneering a new direction, only the way its presented. having said that the concept is cool nonetheless.

If you like noise I've been asked to do a set of the shit at a new Wednesday(!) night at @Newtown. Starts in December. I've been asked to play noise but I'll probably chuck in some hip hop. Cause why not?
