When i was in Germany, i had a chat to this dude about raves etc. He told me not to bother with the Love parade in berlin, but go to an equivalent event in Zurich, Switzerland. His english wasnt best, but i think it was either called Sweet Parade or Summer Parade. Not sure about his exact date. I quote him "Better music than Berlin, better people than berlin, better atmosphere than berlin'. Maybe its worth looking it up on the net for actual details of the event.
I heard Barcelona is the place to be during summer, lots of free parties everywhere, everyone partying like there is no tomorrow.

While I was residing in the Northern Hemishpere for a few years of debauched partying there were a few excellent parties/events I could recommend to everyone !.
Homelands or Creamfields are both awesome festivals. The scale of these events will blow your mind in comparison to anything in Australia. At the time I was into the whole cheesy trance thing ( PVD etc ) so I was in heaven, although at the same time I got to check out DJ Shadow, Basement Jaxx, Roni Size, Chemical Brothers, Freestylers, Layo & Bushwacka!, Underworld, Adam Freeland & "god himself" Sasha. No matter what your tastes are a festival of this size with keep you happy.
On more of a rock crossover tip is stuff like Glastonbury or Reading, I chose the latter because it is not normally a mudfest !. Most of the acts are band orientated although there are side tents for dance music, I was lucky enough to see Beastie Boys and The Prodigy back to back with a nice dose of Roni Size to finish.
In terms of clubs check Fabric for all your Tech-House, Breaks & Drum n Bass needs. Elements for a bit of Progressive & Dubby House action. The Fridge for loosing your mind trance & hard house. The Arches in Glasgow with the SLAM/SOMA boys for all your tek requirements.
My only regrets are not getting to Ibiza ( although it is an expensive cliche these days ) or visiting probaly one of the best electronic music festivals in the world SONAR in Barcelona. As if that city is not perfect by itself it has to have the best festival !.
Hope that gives you a few ideas !
chack out http://www.freetekno.org/ for free parties across eastern europe, franc, holland etc
i was there a couple of years ago at some wicked parties in Poland
I Love Techno in Belguim..
