Ok, so i'm talking about food labels where it lists all the ingredients/contents of the product.

I'm wondering, does the FIRST ingredient listed on the label mean it's the highest amount in there?

For example, my jar of Peanut Butter says:

Peanuts (88%)
Vegetable oils
Sugar
Salt

And my Sweet Chili Sauce says:

Sugar
Water
Pickled red chili (16.8%)
10% Vinegar
Garlic
Stablizer (xanthan)

And my jar of Strawberry Jam says:

Sugar
Strawberries (40%)
Vegetable gum (pectin)
Food acids (330, 331)

So, is the first ingredient listed the main ingredient in the product?

If so, did i just buy a jar of sugar rather than a jar of strawberry jam?

I know this may seem incredibly insignificant, but it's a myth i've never known to be true or not. Any help would be great.

yes, it's true. ingredients must be listed in order of quantity, greatest to least.

The only thing that means anything to me is the fat content.. 0.8g Good, 30g BAD!

Nothing else means anything to me.. my boy is very into food labels, im sure he'd know the answer to your question...

yeah i only do a fat and sugar check, the rest of it is pretty meaningless to me.

once you start checking sugar though, some foods are ruined forever.

it's shit when you thought you'd been making a healthy food decision and you find out you weren't : (
