Did anyone go to these? They were run by Martyn Allen and Dave Kirkpatrick. I went to a few, I thought they were seriously classy house events, people were a bit more dressed up and less gurn than at raves, good music and good lighting (and they always had lasers, even with house), and they were always in different, interesting, classy venues. I think there's a real market there for these types of parties to be put on again actually.

Yeah they were awesome, Skygarden, what a venue. I think that these parties spelled the end of the illegal warehouse days and saw things moving into club territory.

The emergence of prog...
...or was it simply house?
Either way, an excellent series of excellent parties with excellent music and excellent people.
And the gurn was still on for young and old, only it was more the old, and therefore seasoned veterens 'avin' it large znd therefore without all the histrionics.
Good times, great parties, and an important era in Sydney's music development.

I sure did! For me it was a Decadence, Love and anything else(outdoor/hordern party) merry-go-round sort of time. I'd go to anyone one of them depending on the weekend.
Awesome music, great ppl!
Seeing as the Metro has had it's day, the lack of decent sized venues for those sorts of parties has pretty much put an end to them. That's how I see things.....which maybe a little behind the reality as I don't make it out as much.

What Spectrum said - they were fantastic, lots of older people, awesome music and a different vibe to the "raves" Along with Love and Flim Flam, Decadence parties were a nice respite!
Would def love to see something of this ilk again.

i think the first decadence party i went to had an egyptian theme? it ~may~ have been in pyrmont before they set up shop at skygarden...
i've got both the decadence cd releases at home too... they're still great to put on :D
yes they were cool parties, older and more diverse crowd which was cool, everything from hard house to funky house........and always tried hard to come up with interesting new venues like planet hollywood for NYE one year. They also spent money on production which is a far cry from today's parties.

Yeah I went to just about all of them. My wife had no interest in going to raves but loved the Decadance parties, they were always a lot of fun
Although I think the last one I went to was a NYE gig at Planet Hollywood? What an awful, awful, truly awful venue! Oh what I would have given for Skygarden or The Musuem of Contempory Art that night....

Swindon Martyn was the most sound guy you could ever meet.
I dont think the crowd was older as such...WE were all just older...same faces diffrent venues.
Still see some of them now ;)
