Howdy folks,
I'm DJ Dee Dee. I'm going to be holidaying in Perth (my hometown!) in January next year. (I'll actually be there from the 15th January 2007 to February the 5th)
I'm looking for a couple of gigs to cover the exhorbitant costs of getting there. If anyone here has contact details for promoters there that may be interested in having me play at their event, I would hugely appreciate the info. I play techno, electro, house both mixed up and purely.

ARTIST PROFILE: DEE DEE
If the ultimate aim of a DJ is to draw people to the dance floor and keep them there, then Dee Dee is the ultimate. Dee Dee’s trademark is to work to this end with such an enduring combination of intensity, relentless precision and ascending musicality, that in the final analysis the DJ’s studying him are as breathless as the dancers on the dance floor.
Originally from Perth, with time spent in Sydney and Byron Bay, northern New South Wales, and now residing in Melbourne, Dee Dee bridges the immensity of the country with his touring and in so doing has mesmerised the dance public of Australia with the electrifying skill of his sets. In 1996, while playing in Adelaide, he was approached and convinced to move to Melbourne as head resident DJ for a new club. The deal never came to fruition, but fortunately left the path open to a chance meeting, which led he and fellow player DJ Slack to create Australian party icon Teriyaki Anarki Saki. With 9 years of playing every week at Teriyaki as one of Teriyaki’s resident DJ’s - that’s over 450 parties there alone! - Dee Dee has been able to hone his DJ skills.
Dee Dee’s sets are “dancer-focused” and always initiate fierce action on the dance floor. Underpinning his work is an uncommon sense of musicality. Regardless of what style of music he plays, it never stops being damn funky music. With an innate sense of what works on the dance floor, Dee Dee translates the technical into something palpable, real and aurally satisfying: put simply, Dee Dee has an intuition of pure funk.
Thanks to a record collection, amassed over 14 years, and his desire to step outside the confines of the techno party circuit he spearheaded for over 13 years, Dee Dee has been delving into the more eclectic part of his collection in order to play for almost any situation. Having a love of music as broad as his, has secured him guest spots at various venues and parties throughout Melbourne, Australia and abroad: he’ll play electro to house to 80’s trash, rock’n’roll, techno… anything! But always focusing on what the house and the dancers want to hear.
Dee Dee has been DJ’ing for over 14 years and has had the pleasure and honour of supporting countless internationals: and there’s way too many to mention. When it comes to playing the big parties and festivals, he’s done them all too. He’s also had the pleasure of doing JJJ’s mix up twice.
RESIDENCIES
Dee Dee is a highly sought-after player and has been at the helm of many club and party rosters. Most notably, and his proudest, was his 9 year tenure at his own club Teriyaki.
Current Residencies:
FLIRT (one off parties, when it suits them) Dee Dee is a resident player for sexy electro kings and queens FLIRT: a once a month electro and house driven, sexy, hedonistic Saturday night party. Flirt is currently in hiatus.
TECHNOIR. (Currently enjoying a small break, but keep your ear to the ground for the next instalment: proper underground party!) Flying the flag for techno in Melbourne is a great little crew called Technoir.
Volume (at Room 680, Saturdays). He is also resident of weekly club monster VOLUME at Room nightclub in Hawthorn. Catering to over 1000 patrons every week, this is a truly exciting position for him. It also allows him to delve into the more commercial, clubby portions of his record crate. At the end of the day music is music: “If it makes you move, if it makes you feel, I’ll play it. I’m not going to be confined by what’s cool and what’s not.”

June – July 1999: Dee Dee toured the USA at the invitation of Woody Mcbride playing at his infamous “Wall of Bass” parties, as well as a selection of clubs and parties across the country from Colorado to Philadelphia.

Well, this is a rude shock... but I guess somewhat deserved... Reading over that paragraph, you could be mislead into thinking that it's highly self-indulgent. In my defence:
crazy_tripper - If you werent there, you wouldn't understand. When I played, at the height of my club, Teriyaki, I would have a ring of young up-and-coming DJ's, arms folded, just watching. And by the looks on their faces, they seemed to be getting blown away. (Or maybe they were quietly trying to mock and intimidate me, who knows?) I'm certainly not trying to blow my own horn, merely stating a fact. That's how it was. They were good days.
In any case, that paragraph was written not by me, but by an impartial observer (with the credentials and experience to give such critique). Sounded good to my ego (i'm humble enough to admit that) and for my profile: who wouldn't include such a glowing opinion? Perhaps I'm missing something in the idea of constructing a bio: isn't it meant to outline someone's credentials and career? In my 15 years + of playing, that certainly was one true highlight. And I'm definitely proud of that.
These days i'm humble enough, also, to admit that there are many fantastic DJ's out there that no doubt blow me out of the water. crazy_tripper you may well be one?! Here's hoping you are, cause I like seeing the art of merely playing music taken to whole new levels.
boi85 - I assume you're talking about the UK based Dee Dee? Whatever the case, no I didn't write that song. If I do happen to score a gig in your town, then I hope I do satisfy you and all that come down, not least for the risk the promoter would be taking in putting on an unknown player from out of town. But, I may just suck and clear the floor. It happens and it's happened to me many times. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen if I do get to play in your town.
So I hope that kinda clears that up and we can leave it behind and get down to what we all love best: music, DJing and having a good time.

Telling people what and where you play usually covers it. If you happen to warp the levels of awesomeness in the space-time continuum, well and good, but if you mention it in your own post, it's gunna come across as pompous and self-indulgent.
Best bet is prolly to link us up with one of your mixes - if we like it, you'll be granted the key to the city, and have your pick of the numerous moisties that grace ITM.
Hope you get some gigs, there's many a gripe on here about the lack of tech in Perth (although it's not prefixed with 'funky' very often).

I will have to stand in Dee Dee's defense, this guy rock's, having spent time working with T.A.S. and the rest of the crew, these guys smash hardware big time when it came to techno in Melbourne. I remember the night of TAS vs HARDWARE, i can tell you who won hands down that night....T.A.S.

hi there i am a fuked up gurner clubber...whos looking for promotors in melbourne to pay me to appear in their clubs.. i am holidaying in what could be my home town of melbourne (if i knew who my father is) over christmas and i am looking to cover the exhorbiant cost of my webjet $450 return fare.... my biog is as follows:
style: bez dance/mc sure shock arm moves, hang around mates houses trying to get sorted..... stumble into clubs wearing sunglasses and try to work out where everyone is... dance on the stage and stumble on to the next place...... wonder why its suddenly daytime and there are loads of people in tracksuits carrying water bottles running from un seen assialiants.....

Bill is 30, and is painfully aware that his best years are behind him. He can be seen at most major events stumbling about in a drunken haze, or wandering the streets at night searching for true love and a chicken kebab. hey thanks dude..i'll take any compliment going cheers....yep im a tool no issue there and yep its the sad truth and im still waiting for offers to cover my airfare dammit........ no form of sarcasm could have done justice to DDs biog and i was a fool for trying to lighten the thread ...you guys obviously take your underground electronic music really seriously..... ive never been to the underground dance scene of melbourne but am tomorrow for the first time ...so will let you know what i think of it and of DD.... FYI i have had 20 years of roadying and lighting engineer for acts and djs and club runner then club nights promotor in london brightonand places beyond both underground (when it was really underground back in the day) and places like fabric and home in london before drugs closed it down (if youve heard of that underground place)... i got a few internationals the pass through WA that i have know for years since before they got a name and played in rooms in pubs...but there you go.... i find the scene here a little anal n narrow althogh perth is really cranking it atm with some great nights around and djs on here who in my opinion have put the yards in and still are, guys like micah, karl, signal drivers who just get on with it and who i could put in most clubs in london and they would rock it...and they dont need to push out pretensious biogs.... and comments like yours do not do you any favours...its about the music and that should be able to speak for you not some lame biog that really didnt do himself any favours...... if you and your crew can ever get over to the uk and cut it there even at a monthly free basement party then you may have cause to comment on my life.....

Dee dee.. You must realize that this is the worst way of getting yourself a gig. It's really not professional. You should get an agent or someone that is noteable in the industry to contact promoters in perth. I don't doubt you are skillful but there are better ways of promoting yourself !! especially in perth forums.. they dont give you a chance...;)
anyways... You musnt be alarmed at the replies since it probably constitutes 0.5 percent of the perth dance scene!

I dont know Dee Dee personally and i havnt been clubbing for more than a few years but as far as ive come to understand, the melbourne dance scene will owe him for an eternity. Hes a pretty damn important dj over here whose been behind and involved with some of melbournes greatest parties throughout the 90's and today.
Sure not everyone in Perth knows this and theres no reason why you should have to. Fair enough the rude posts were made in response to the initial post at face value.

If i had achieved that much in the scene and played that many parties i would probably tell some kid ten years younger than me to piss off. This guy cops all the requests and annoying questions from drunken/drugged punters with a smile.

1. No, wanky bios and things of the like work to an extent in many places. When you go out looking for jobs do you hand out modest C.V's to your potential employers? As far as i know the whole idea is to promote yourself even if it comes across arogant. Of course wanky bio's dont just work like that. I agree that you cant just expect everyone to believe everything the bio says but i dont think Deedee would have expected every word to have been taken as fact.
2. I cant speak for deedee but yeah, i sure as fuck wouldnt do something like that again after the reaction it recieved.
3. If it were me, i wouldnt put a mix up for you people to hear. The chances that it would be listened to with no preconceptions are slim. First time i saw him play he was playing thumping techno and i could tell he was good at it but i wasnt really into techno at the time. It was about the 2nd or third time i saw him play that we was playing a genre i enjoyed more and that was when he first blew me away. Ive seen him a fair few times since. I was basing my judgement word of mouth, street press articles, reviews, friends comments and my own experiences.
Im not a dj myself, im a producer- producers will find any excuse to pay out on a dj. If someone like Grant Smilie had posted that bio then i would be going all out on trying to cut him down with the rest of you.
If you read my post properly you would know that i understand that you shouldnt take a bio as gospel. Noone here ever said you should. You would have to be a moron if you did. Thats not the issue.

aww look what chestwig ripped into me about was pretty low... hes no idea what i am about or what i have done...nor why should he... i am sure if we ever met up we would hit it off as i started up in a similar style to him and as you get older your tastes and antics change... i tried to get down to his club to see him mix and play out but its not running when i am there... i only went to his my space as he had it out there to look at ... i was merely trying to emphasise the mentality of the person calling me a tool and an idiot... i may well be both (eh neil!) but chestwig isnt qualified to judge me hence i went off to highlight and defend myself.... i think the melbourne club scene is decent from what i have seen so far.... love the depeche mode al la 80s skinny jean and avaitors look and nick thayer dropped some new order into his mixes last night which was off the hook...n you can smoke in clubs there awesome...whats with this they wont let guys without girls into the clubs there about tho!!!:stroke:
