I shoot a bit for inthemix

when people ask, and it's a dance music event that I plan on posting to inthemix, I tell them i'm shooting for inthemix, and often hand out a 'we got you' card with the website address to make it easier for them to remember. A lot of times people don't even ask, they just want their photo taken and aren't too concerned where it's going to be :)

If people are really keen on full size images, I will give them my card with my flickr url and my email address and they can either grab them off flickr or email me

I publish a portion of my inthemix galleries on flickr, and also have another site owned by a friend where I can publish galleries if required (eg stuff that's not suitable for inthemix, too large, or not a dance party) and I let people download from both of those for free

with some events/venues, if you're shooting on behalf of inthemix then they only want you to publish on inthemix. it's not that common, but it does happen, and your entry is based on agreement to that condition. this is usually places that have been treated badly by photographers in the past :)

obviously form the above, i'm not really in this for the money, as the type of photography I like to do at events isn't really the 'money maker' in the industry, and i'd rather keep shootign the way i do and not make money, then start changing the way I shoot to chase the potential $$.

also I shoot a lot of underground style events where there's not that much money going around, and the events and venues themselves are just breaking even (or going under) so there's not really any money to be had there for photos. for those events I tend to give the organisers a free copy of all the images so they can use them for promo work, to make their life a a little easier.

I know there's a bunch of photogs managing to make ends meet in the event photo world, so maybe they'll pipe up here and talk about their methodologies.

of course, their methods are part of their business and their commercial advantage, so they may also feel more comfortable just keeping quiet :)

if people ask, i tell them. if they ask me whats inthemix, ill give them a we got you card.

i dont give printable copies or high res. if i said yes to everyone who asked me to email them a pic with nil charge, id spend an awful lot of time sending out free pics.

im working on getting my own site up but its moreso going to be a heres what i can do, pay me money kind of site.

no one knows if they make money from the 50 cents per mobile because the contributor revenue function has been fucked since itm v7 launched and no one seems to give a shit or is willing to fix it.

i have done
but i normally just the take the pics
I'm the sneakier type of photographer - I prefer more candid style shots
but then again I haven't done any work for ITM in ages :|

if they want original large printable copies how to u supply this?

by email
but i've been very rarely asked this question

but I will supply full res versions to promoters free of charge

do u have your own web site of galleries for free display or purchase?

i have my flickr site and i am debating about starting my own website to clear up a lot of the clutter on my flickr site - don't know. Free downloading with me is a big big no no. If your on my friends or family list I think you can. Otherwise forget it - I had a rather nasty experience of someone downloading my photos and claiming them as their own - so I won't allow it anymore.

do u find u make any money at all from the 50 cents per mobile pic?

nope and don't really care

-If I approach people for a photo, or if they ask, I tell them the photos are for ITM. But a fair few times people approach me for a photo because I'm holding a camera and don't ask what/who I'm taking photos for.

-Very rarely do people ask me for a full size copy. If they do, I either give them my email address, or tell them to message me on ITM.

-I don't have my own website, but I'm thinking it would be a good idea.

-Last time I could check, I had made $19.50 out of the ITM/Vodafone mobile pics. However, since September last year I don't know how much I'll made because the Contributor Revenue display isn't working.

Not unless they ask, and they ask surprisingly rarely. I've had people hunt me down to have me take their picture, and they seem to care less about where it ends up. I've had the same group of people trick me into taking their picture three times, and when I finally payed attention to facial recognition, I caught them trying about four more times until my expression must have made them feel ridiculous enough to stop.

I mean, in principle I have no problem taking happy snaps of people. It is actually fun to see people having a good time and so if this helps I'm all about it. I even put them up to the site, but I certainly don't need multiple shots of the same group (expecially considering I shoot on drive to avoid the weird face phenomenon). Anyway... and these people didn't even care where the pictures ended up (and where they end up is clogging up my flash card, hard drive, etc.) - so apparently they just like the idea of their picture being taken. So, I have a little secret that I'll break here. If I catch people trying to get into too many of my shots, I fire the flash a few times so that they are more willing to get out of my way. Hey, and it makes them feel good, too. Win win.

I've never had this happen. Well, that is a lie, I get asked all the time and give my details but people never call back desiring a print or a large copy. I think asking for prints is related to desiring the photo be taken...it is the action itself that brings people pleasure, the final result is, for the main part, superfluous.

Flickr. Have considered going to smugbug.

if its for itm, i have something that says u've been shot by itm, if they ask i say itm.

if they want large size for prints, i provide my email address and ofcourse a charge for the pic.

considering the money spent on the equipment to take decent photos & skill, its only fair to charge some one if they want a larger copy of the image.

some pictures i upload to my flickr account or myspace.

If they ask, then yes. At larger events, I were a neck-pass with ITM details on it, found it easier to point then repeat myself 100times.

Depends on who and for what for purpose, individual patrons, issue free via Email with relevant credits - ITM&Photographer

do u have your own web site of galleries for free display or purchase?
Flicker - not for sale, just for show

i always tell them where/when its giong on itm and how to fine them and give them a card if they dont know the site

tho i started back when no one had any idea what itm was and we didnt have the photocards, so i had to explain it so it didnt look like i was some kinda of perv lol so force of habit i guess. its also a courtesy thing, im not some paparazzi wanker!

I tell ppl its for inthemix. Thankfully a lot of people know I shoot for itm, so I don't have to explain.

If people want any prints etc, they can track me down. It's not hard to find people in Brissy.

I don't even pay any attention to that 50c stuff.

I don't think i've made a cent from ITM, I tell people if they wan't copies it's $5 for myspace use or $20 for hi-res. If i catch them using it without permission i can force them to pay or remove it. I keep legal rights to all my pic's. I use a Zooomr gallery (similar to flickr but better)

Most of the time I know 3/4 of the crowd in the room (usually all ITMrs too!) so they know what I am up to.
If Im taking a photograph of strangers I tell them, but alot of people (especially drunk guys) just jump in front of me and pose anyway. I havent photographed a large event in a while. I think the last for me was Good Vibrations 2005.

I have some photographs on my myspace. I havent made money from a photograph although I did have a quote of mine from a review used in the 2005 ITM magazine :P No one has actually asked me for a copy of a photo.
